Engaging fast paced story. I enjoyed reading it. Over all
I found the characters were a good fit in the story. A great balance between Rome and Venice as it switches
I feel like this needs editing more. Whilst relatively fast in pace and easy to read the story was incredibly disjointed, suffered badly from lack of accurate timeline and I know I was meant to feel tense and nervous for the main character but it never came across that way.
Naming a character in a book on Catholicism 'Nevaeh' is so on the nose and even worse she's meant to be 12 but speaks as if she's taken several university level theology classes. At 12.
The main character is very much devoid of personality and none of the other characters really came across as anything other than plot points. The emotional maturity is difficult to understand as she flies between emotions exceptionally quick. I understand this is due to the trauma she suffered but it wasn't put across well.
The ending was also extremely abrupt and whilst the main plot point was 'solved' absolutely nothing else was. I'm sad about this as the plot was intriguing and I enjoy learning about the Catholic church and their history of covering up for criminal activity. It just suffers a lot from feeling rushed and unedited.
A fast-paced read that draws you in. While the beginning felt a bit abrupt, the story quickly unfolds, pulling you in. The multiple storylines come together nicely. However, I believe the book would have benefited from a slower pace with more room for character development. Overall, it’s a good 'go with the flow' book.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This book was phenomenal. The only way I can describe it is The Thorn Birds meets The DaVinci Code meets book club fiction. Having been raised Catholic I have a fascination with books like The Thorn Birds and The DaVinci Code. The plot was fresh and had a bit of everything, twisty thriller, historical fiction, family drama, romance.
There are several plot lines that are interwoven and come together at the end with a strong payout. You just have to dive into this one, as discussing too much of the plot, in my opinion, will take some of the fun away. This is one you won't put down and will wish you could read it again for the first time.
What a great book (especially if you like Italy and Intrigue!) I loved the fast-paced story and the all the main characters. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. It was really 'unputdownable' and well researched.
Vatican Daughter is a book that tells the story of an indiscretion between two people who should never been together that resulted in a daughter who ends up a captive of sorts in the Vatican due to what is one of the most important things, the purposeful harming of the child's mother who loses 12 years due to that harm that came to her.
The overall story demonstrates the will of a mother who is willing to do anything to find and take back her child in the, background of corruption of the Roman Catholic Church and more specifically, the Vatican, with all the rules and laws that exist because of its international status. The story also includes mentioning of current issues regarding the Catholic Church and how many of them are disregarded.
Vatican Daughter is super profound. I loved to read this story. I recommend everyone to read this book as fast as they can because it's really good and the characters are fantastic.
Fast paced, engaging action, with a few plot twists kept me turning the pages past bedtime. Characters were well-developed, and the action was nicely balanced with scenes and scents of some of my favorite places (especially Rome and Venice). A worthy read!
I really enjoyed the historical fiction novel, it had that overall feel that I was looking for and enjoyed about the use of Italy. The characters were everything that I wanted and worked in this setting. I enjoyed how strong the story was and thought the overall feel worked. Joni Marie Iraci has a strong writing style and thought the way the characters were created worked overall.
