I’ve said before I love a cuckoo in a book and there is a mighty one here in this latest thriller by Samantha Hayes
And she has a reason to be….more than one tbh and very soon Matt and Gina who are staying at their friend Annie’s house will find out why ( the housekeeper comes with the house as part of the deal )
Books on themes well worn now have to have ( well for me ) that added ‘out the norm’ to impress and this really did, with genuine surprises right up until the end
Living with Diabetes and also suffering from claustrophobia and panic attacks are part of the story as incidentals but fit in well to what is happening
Enjoyable, well written and thrilling as a thriller should be, one of the most memorable psychological reads this year
Oh wow!!! I read this book in a day as couldn't put it down! So many twists and turns when you think you've guessed it all another curve ball is thrown.
When Gina's house has a fire her and husband Matt move into there friends house while she's travelling. A housekeeper arrives who Gina doesn't trust from the start, when more and more strange things happen her and her friends from school have to face the past.
Someone knows what happened back then but I didn't see that ending coming at all!
A gripping thriller that kept me racing through the pages until the shocking ending, full of jaw dropping twists and turns. Brilliant, loved it!
This book had me hooked from chapter one. I loved the writing style, and it did keep me guessing. I did not expect Sara to still be alive and I didn’t expect them to all get along at the end. I’m very impressed with this book!
Another great read from Samantha Hayes yet again she invites us to untangle the web of lies that she writes so well.Told in dual timelines that let us try and unfold what really happened the night Sara went missing and the effect it is still having on the other 3 girls in her friendship group who are all leading different lives to each other but still remain friends. Sara’s disappearance has always left them wondering just what did happen on the night of the party she wasn’t invited to.
And just who is the mystery housekeeper?
The author is brilliant at revealing the outcome and then hitting us with another and then another unexpected shock. Fans of psychological suspense will race through this book. Highly recommended. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the Arc.
Stayed up for to late to finish this book! Couldkt put it down. Lots of twists and turns all the way! Really really enjoyed it!
Samantha Hayes’ Her Housekeeper is a gripping psychological thriller that keeps readers hooked with its tension and well-crafted suspense. The complex relationships and secrets lurking beneath the surface create an unsettling atmosphere throughout the story. Hayes does an excellent job of building intrigue with her sharp, engaging writing and a compelling protagonist.
However, the ending felt like it came out of nowhere, with little build-up to the final twist. While this sudden shift was shocking, it left a sense that more development was needed to fully land the impact. Despite that, it’s still a tense and thrilling read that fans of twisty mysteries will enjoy.
Great thriller of a read, don't know who to believe and trust. The ending was just suburb binding the whole story together with answers.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book.
Another exciting domestic thriller which I thoroughly enjoyed. The storyline was very well written with well described characters and I couldn't stop turning the pages
Everything was brought to a satisfactory conclusion. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.
Wow what a rollercoaster of a book. This had me gripped from start to finish and when I thought I had it figured out it got flipped on its head again! I loved the characters and the GALS friendship group was well done as you never quite knew who to trust. Thanks netgalley!

This book centers around a group of childhood friends, and a married couple with two small children. Gina and Matt have a house fire, and are invited to stay at a friends house while she is away traveling. The housekeeper and her son show up with no place to stay, apparently fleeing a violent home. Naturally, strange things start to happen, and everyone seems to be hiding something.....
This was a fast-paced thriller, with lots of bits and pieces to put together. I figured out a lot of the pieces, but a few bits surprised me. This was the first book I read by this author, and look forward to reading more by her.
I finished this book at 3 am this morning- I only meant to read a couple of pages
I couldn’t stop reading - I had to know what happened next. This is a delicious slice of escapist heaven. It pulls you right in and you can’t stop turning the pages. LOVE IT!
This is another fantastic domestic thriller by Samantha Hayes. Her writing style is always fast paced and comes with plenty of twists. I’ve read all of her other books and this is definitely one of my favourites.
Gina’s husband installs a new light fitting at their home, but the worst scenario happens while they are out for the night and the house catches fire, they must move out while renovations are completed to get the property back to a condition that is liveable. A friend of Gina’s, Annie, offers her home to them to stay in and they are incredibly grateful. But soon there is a knock at the door and the woman behind it claims she is the housekeeper; her name is Mary.
This is the last thing Gina expected and is nervous about her arrival, she has two young children and is very protective as any mother would be, Gina contacts Annie to confirm this woman is who she says. Once this is clarified, Gina feels a little easier but still has concerns. Soon she is thrown another surprise as Mary states she has left an abusive relationship and needs somewhere to stay; she leaves to get her belongings but comes back with a man who she says is her son. Guess what, he needs to move in too, oh how the plot thickens.
Gina’s gut is telling her things aren’t right and generally our gut feelings are correct. This now sets the scene for us to slowly discover what Mary’s intentions are and how this is going to affect Gina and her family.
As with all this authors books there are twists and turns that will keep you absorbed in the story and there will also be some surprises you will not expect. Another great book from this author that I highly recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions expressed are my own.
Wow! Samantha Hayes does it again with another fantastic read. I was hooked on this one for days. I don't do spoilers, this one is a must read and I give it an easy 5 stars.
Her Housekeeper is a slow burner that turns into a bonfire in the last third of the book.
Written in dual timelines, present and past, it is an absolutely gripping psychological thriller that has enough twists and red herrings through out to keep you guessing.
4 stars ****
This is a slow burner but stick with it as it builds masterfully. A really great read, where people aren’t who they say they are! Lots of twists and a satisfying ending. A really great thriller.
Told in dual timelines:
Present:
Gina’s life gets turned upside down. Baby Gracie is a few months old when their house burns down. Luckily, her old friend Annie is going to be out of town and offers Gina and her family to stay at her house. Gina, gratefully accepts. But, as she is moving in, Mary walks in on the family. What?? Mary is apparently Annie’s housekeeper. And Gina text Annie, and Annie confirms it. But, things just don’t seem right. Then Mary needs a place to stay and wants to move in. But, Annie texts Gina and lets her know all is good.
Past:
Gina, Annie, Laura and Sara are BFFs. Until one night Sara went missing and has never been found.
It was a slow start, but once you hit the half way point the book takes off and I could not put it down! High tension, likeable characters, shocker twists – can’t ask for more.
Totally enjoyed it! RECOMMEND

Her housekeeper had me glued to my kindle. Cancel all plans while reading - I inhaled this amazing book over one weekend and resented everything that kept me away from it! The writing was top notch and the characters were very real.
