I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Draw it Cute! is exactly what the title says. The book consists of over 100 cute animals to draw and have fun drawing them. Each page has very little writing, focusing more on the illustrations and contains different poses for each animal, which was so much fun. Once you've mastered the basics in this book there's so much potential of where each creation can take you. The step-by-step instructions are basic and easy to follow, and with so many animals to choose from, it was hard to pick one to start with at first.
A very cute book, but the ebook version had some formatting issues I wish they'd have corrected. It made navigating the book hard on the NetGalley shelf app, which interrupted the flow of putting the drawing skills into practice.
This is, as promised, a super cute how-to drawing book! The examples are simple and easy to follow. Would recommend for someone with basic drawing skills, but would be fun for a beginner as well.
This was very helpful in helping me start understanding basic drawing concepts. I would recommended it to anyone willing to follow the easy to understand process of drawing cute illustrations.
DRAW IT CUTE! has so many different characters to draw! The step by step instructions are so easy to follow and there’s even tips throughout to help. And after they teach you the basic character, they even show different ways to change up the character! Perfect for beginners and artists who want to try out this style!
Draw It Cute! shows the process of completing a drawing therefore without actual artsy skills you will still feel puzzled, because the book doesn't teach you know how, but just shows the pictures in different phases of completion. As a person who is really bad at drawing and sketching I don't really recommend this book because the only thing that I can do with it is just look at pretty pictures. It's definitely way better as an inspiration for those who already have proper skills.
The problem I had with this book is the same one I find with most drawing books: little instruction and a lot of illustrations! The book assumes that the reader already is skilled in drawing. So even though there are tips throughout the book, they are tips like "use your imagination," "it's all in the details," "practice with different mediums," but the overall implementations of drawing just aren't there. I have some artistic skill but drawing animals or people just hasn't ever been my strong suit. But this just tells me to practice and shows me about 3 steps in drawing each animal and 3 versions of each final drawing per animal. Perhaps it's for a more advanced drawer...even though I wouldn't call myself a beginner.
I think this really is a cute drawing book! I love it and think it would be great for anyone new to drawing or anyone who just wants to maybe try a new type of fun drawings. It would be good for a kid or an adult in my opinion. I liked that there were a lot of animals we are familiar with as well as magic creatures in the book. I feel like the drawings have a kind of whimsical feel to them and I love that. Each drawing has several steps to get you to the finished drawing.
This book included so many cute drawings that were very easy to follow, I am looking forward to following this to create cute images myself
I always find it so fun to study these forms of books. One can learn so much from Heegyum Kim. The art is versatile and cute, there are many helpful tips, tricks, and ideas within the pages.
My mom who can't draw decided to give this a try with me, we enjoyed the Sheep and Elephant. Super easy to follow and we had fun!
This is a pretty basic how-to for making cute drawings of mostly animals, but also a few mythical creatures. It doesn’t go into any basic theory of drawing or anything like that; it may be best aimed at young readers, who will copy what they see on the page, step-by-step.
Thanks to Quarto and NetGalley for DRC access.
Lovely!
I'm having a lot of fun with this; easy to follow, nice to copy. A sweet little addition to any drawing book collection!
Very cute drawing tutorial book. Simple enough for kids, but still pretty detailed and fun. Great activity for people of all ages who want to learn to draw.
While the animals are very cute, and a big draw of this book, I don't find the illustrations helpful for teaching people how to draw. The little tips for you to think about how you are drawing, and variations you can do, are worthwhile but few and far between. As a result it doesn't tell me much about creating the lines and shapes.
Respectfully, we must have very different opinions on how to make something cute. Not so much a how to drawing guide either.
for a media student who really can not draw - this is priceless. I am in love with the corgi! and he will for sure be a hero of my project this year. I am looking forward to more by the author!
I’ve taken an online course with Hee before and honestly, I had no idea that this book was by the same artist. The artist’s Instagram, Hee_cookingdiary and their course was entirely different so I was a little bit surprised to find out after I read through this that it was indeed the same illustrator.
The animals and character in the book were fun, but I didn’t find them to be cute and the book wasn’t as detailed for a how to compared to other books I’ve seen from this publisher. I think this is the first time I won’t be purchasing one for my own shelf. I also want to note that the missing letters in the heading was driving me absolutely bonkers. I get it’s a style choices but it was weird.
I do love the different type and tricks along with the texture options each page has.
Overall, this one was a meh book. Cute if you really like the style, but not that accessible for a how to book and not cute like the title suggests. Which are bummer things because this artist is insanely talented, especially with teaching pencil crayon work.
Very cute book. It was very easy to follow. Since I’m a beginner a lot of the tips throughout the book really helped :)
“Remember, the best way to get better at drawing is to draw!”
Draw it cute (100+ Adorable Animals and Amazing Creatures) was a fun book to look at. There are a lot of examples of animals and magical creatures, and you just have to reproduce them to train yourself to draw. The style is very nice, pretty unique –and minimalist– regarding what we can find in common art books.
Though it was fun to try to copy a couple of them, I found it missed instructions. Yes, this is a step by step, but if you don’t understand the shapes already, it’s pretty difficult to use the book. In the same idea, the author advise to look at anatomy, but if you don’t know how to interpret and simplify it, it is pretty difficult (I studied anatomy for my biology degree, but I’m still unable to draw…). That’s a bit frustrating, because the art-style is really nice, and with more instructions it would be easier to get more results.
Thank you NetGalley, Heegyum Kim and Quarto Publishing group for the ARC. My opinions are my own.
