Harry Styles IS life, Kathleen Perricone has that right. As a Harry fan from the start of One Direction I knew everything in this book but that didn’t make it any less enjoyable. Her writing radiates enthusiasm and the art that went along with the book was impeccable.
This felt superficial and like the target audience is for very young girls. Personally I would have liked a little more substance but maybe this is for kids and teenagers.
Look. I am a diehard Harry Styles fan - I've seen him live as a solo artist more than 10 times, and more than 20 times if you include the One Direction years - so there isn't much you could include in a book like this that I didn't already know. But, the art in this book is BEAUTIFUL, and the A to Z format is fresh, and I liked that it never felt like reading straight from a wikipedia article.
This was most obviously written by a fan, but it was light hearted and easy to read. The font was a little small for my eyes, but in all it was a lovely read.
This would make the perfect gift for any fan of Harry Styles! I love the illustrations showing off some of his iconic outfits, and also the format of his discography that includes the track list of each album!
Harry Styles is Life is deep dive into all things Harry. Expect a mix of fun facts, lyrics, background on his life from childhood to now, and of course his over the top fashion choices. A quick, fun read. 4 stars.
So this is the third book that I have read by Kathleen and I loved this edition as well. I own the Taylor Swift and I recently read the Beyoncè edition. The Harry Styles is yet another excellent book. I love the illustrations and learning more about him. As a fan, it would be fun to own this or to be able to gift to someone who is also a fan! Excellent book.
Join the Harry Styles fandom culture with this gorgeously illustrated, all-encompassing fan book on everything there is to know and love about the modern icon that is Harry Styles. From his first appearance on The X Factor and touring with One Direction to breaking out in a successful solo career, reimagining the men’s fashion world, and becoming a pop icon, Harry Styles has taken the world by storm. Gathering his incredible life story, music, and fan culture all in one place, Harry Styles Is Life is the one and only Harry Styles reference you need.
This book had lots of cute illustrations of Harry and included so much information on Harry and how his career blossomed into the superstar we know today. I found it easy to read and I loved the font they used.
I recently reviewed Taylor Swift is Life, so when I had the opportunity to read a similar overview of Harry Styles, I thought that would be fun. I was expected a non-critical, enthusiastic overview of his career, taken from third party sources and other open information, with hand drawn illustrations, rather than any photos. That is exactly what I got, although the hyperbole level was, if possible, even higher in this book. For example I don't think Harry Styles redefines masculinity by wearing a dress, it has been done before. The book is divided into sections, starting with Harry's childhood, going on to talk about 1 Direction and the final section (Harry A-Z), which did feel rather like filler. It was a fine, fluffy book, consistent with the others in the series. Fun as a gift for a fan, or to flip through but not nothing original or substantial.
I don't know that much about Harry Styles (to the chagrin of some of the younger members of my family) but this book was a good way to remedy that quickly. It gives a thorough biography and a ton of facts in a compact volume; along with some artistic illustrations. I admit that I had hoped that this book would focus much more on his fashion, rather than relying on the intermittent drawings and text alone. Still, this book would make a great gift for the Harry Styles superfan in your life.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
In *Harry Styles is Life*, Kathleen Perricone crafts a vibrant tribute to one of today’s most beloved pop culture icons. As someone who was not very familiar with Harry Styles or One Direction—beyond enjoying his catchy songs—I found this book to be a captivating introduction to the man behind the music.
Perricone’s writing radiates enthusiasm, which perfectly captures the passion of Styles’ dedicated fanbase. It is a superfan’s guide that dives into everything from his bold fashion choices to his musical evolution, all while still spotlighting his philanthropic efforts. It shows the reader the side of Harry Styles that resonates so deeply with his fans: his authenticity, charm, and openness about vulnerability.
What stood out most to me was Perricone’s skill in blending intriguing facts with a profound understanding of Styles’ significance in today’s cultural landscape. She thoughtfully explores his lyrics, which often touch on themes of love, identity, and self-acceptance. Interwoven throughout the book are touching stories from his fans that truly illustrate the inspirational impact his journey has had on countless individuals.
I will say that this book leans heavily on a superfan's perspective, offering rich insights for those already “in the know” so I found myself wishing for more context about his early career and broader cultural influence. However, for die-hard fans, this book serves as a delightful and thorough tribute to both Harry Styles and his dedicated following.
In keeping with her other works on pop culture icons, Perricone fills this book with colorful images and memorabilia that celebrate Styles' artistic flair, making it a beautiful addition to any coffee table or bookshelf.
“Harry Styles is Life” officially releases on October 8, 2024.
I want to give a heartfelt thank you to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group, and Kathleen Perricone for the opportunity to read this advanced copy.
As a huge Harry Styles fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this book although I would have loved it more if it were in order of what era of Harry' life was being talked about. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to new Harry Styles fans.
Thank you netgallery for allowing me to read Harry Styles Is Life in exchange for my honest review.
Would be a good gift for any Harry Styles fan, has a lot of information on his influences, music, style and general growing up in the limelight. Some of the information I'd read before but it is nice to have it all together and the illustrations are beautiful. Would recommend for new and old fans of Harry
Perfect for Harries who want a beautifully curated book or for Christmas presents for the harries in your life!
I'll be honest, my knowledge of Harry Styles is pretty limited. This book gave me a lot of new information and in an interesting format! I was not expecting the watercolor art and it's absolutely beautiful. Kathleen kept engagement by changing how information was given, such as listing a Harry A-Z where each bit of info started with a new letter, and a portion of the book being entirely about his tattoos. All of these details were very cool and different from a lot of celebrity bio type books.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group - becker and mayer, and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review!
This book is pretty similar to any sort of celebrity gift book you'd come across -- lots of recycled content from other interviews, magazines, etc. If you're looking for a gift for someone who recently became a Harry Styles fan, this would be great and they'd learn a lot about his career. But for longtime, devoted fans of his, there's nothing really new for them in this book.
Thanks to Quarto and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you netgalley for this ARC as someone who likes harry styles alot but didnt know too much about him since his solo debut it was nice to read more about his career since the band broke up and it was nice to learn more about his upbringing and stuff and life before fame i enjoyed the artwork before each new chapter and the pink pages and such. This would definitely be a cute book for someone who doesnt know much about him at all and wants to learn more about him and his accomplishments. Quick read as well!
I am, admittedly, not a Harry Styles superfan. I don't really listen to his music, and I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about him as person. Still, I was intrigued by the premise of this book; whether or not I'm knowledgeable about him, Harry Styles has clearly had an impressive impact on pop culture. This book details some of the highlights of his life and career, and the illustrations provide a nice overview of his fashion, which is something I have typically enjoyed. This would make a great gift for that person in your life who worships at the altar of Harry Styles!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC! Obviously I got right to reading this as I am a super fan. Really enjoyed the journey this book took on through Harry’s life. Enjoyed the illustrations a lot, do wish they were more in order based on what era of Harry’s life was being spoken about. Overall social 4 ⭐️’s.
