ARC | Great camping book let down by the attempted connection to Peanuts | The parts of this that are just information for wilderness neophytes are great! Informative, clear, comprehensive, and presented in a great tone. It's just trying too hard to be a Peanuts book and not hitting the mark. All the comic panels included are removed from their context. Some are the full comic from a day, but it was day three of a week of connected comics, so there's no lead-in or punchline. Others are one or two panels removed from their comic, so they don't entirely make sense. If you're a big Peanuts fan, you'll recognize what's missing and realize how out of place these are. I showed some of the pages to my partner, who isn't a big Peanuts fan, without explanation and he found it confusing that half a comic was even on the page. Some comics were quoted in large text in one part of the book, and then included as an image elsewhere in the book. It all made it seem like the book was completed as a straightforward and fun introduction to camping and the outdoors, and then a limited selection of Peanuts comics were shoehorned in. I really don't like being so negative about this, because it could have been such a great book!
This guide is so fun and adorable! Great for kids/families that enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, and camping. I like that the book is set up to accommodate those new to being outdoors as well as some that are more experienced and I feel it has activities for almost any age. There are Peanut comics throughout that add a sense of nostalgia and educational points that don't even feel like they are such, they just slide right in. The only thing I would like to see different would be boxes to mark off where there are checklists. That is something that my oldest child would love to do.
This book is so cute - a perfect gift for christmas for little explorers. The illustrations of Snoopy and his family and friends are always a delight. I like the interactive elements and writable pages/lists. Super
This book has blown me away! I was not expecting an in depth lesson on all things outdoors. My son and I have been reading this and learning all about nature and tips and trips for when outdoors. I can’t wait to get my kids outside more and let them lead and show me all of the amazing things they have learned. This is especially perfect since I am homeschooling as it has been a great addition to our learning experience. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
Snoopy's Guide to the Great Outdoors is a delightful handbook to camping and outdoor fun. I loved how much our favorite Peanuts characters showed up in this one, and the delightful illustrations kept it engaging and fun. I don't know how much the kiddos will be looking for a Snoopy nature guide, but the parents will love this one!
My favorite part was the section with classic camping recipes. I loved seeing some of the recipes that I used when growing up camping. Thanks to NetGalley, Kristin Mehus-Roe, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own!
A cute outdoors guide that feels like it's geared more toward younger children. The thing I enjoyed most about this book was the mention of forest bathing and meditation. It also had easy steps to help those along in their journey of connecting to nature. Between the checklists, scavenger hunt, the guide to rainy day camping, and the field note areas, I really enjoyed this book. It's something I would definitely get for my niece. Not to mention the nostalgia of reading a guide accompanied by Snoopy and friends. It has all the essential need to knows where camping is involved and hiking. Between fire safety and a guide to tying knots, it's a good beginners guide, especially for the little ones in our lives. I think this book would definitely spark interest in anyone to get outside and enjoy nature.
This is a very cute book that also has a lot of good information in it for kids of a certain age – there is a lot of text. It would make a really good gift.
Having grown up with the Peanuts gang, this book was a trip down memory lane - but also a pretty dang useful book on the outdoors. I don't camp, but I know a few pre-teens who do - and who also love Snoopy and Woodstock - and I'll be getting this book for them. Practical advice (print maps - you may not have cell service) through the book helps too.
A great combination of Peanuts and camping. I cannot think of a better combination than that.
Informative, engaging and cute.
A very comprehensive and informative book about camping! I love the accompanying Snoopy comics and graphics scattered throughout the books. It was fairly easy to navigate, and the information was straight-forward considering I'm new to camping.
Every kid needs this book and they will automatically would want to go outdoors more while reading it because it’s that good!
Cheers for the descriptions that would be easily understood by the kids and totally appreciate the comic strips as I feel the book would be so incomplete without them.
The kids will get to learn about the basic everyday environment including the basic introduction to the wild animals that live in the city, the clouds, parks that are dog friendly and such interesting information. We will get to know about the basic scout activities, scavenging hunts, hiking, camping out and such outdoor adventures!
Just go for it. Your family will have a lot of fun just reading one chapter! Okies, I am going out cos I can’t just sit inside rotting!
Thank you, Epic Ink, for the ARC.
The Snoopy’s Guide to the Great Outdoors is an excellent resource that will teach and entertain at the same time. From the “beagle scouts oath” to the guide to clouds and scavenger hunt ideas - a really great book.
The layout makes it perfect for all ages - young and old. If you’re an avid Snoopy fan, the peanuts gang and the cartoons add humor throughout the book. I found this to be a very thorough guide book explained in a fun and entertaining way.
Highly recommend
I'm always looking for new fun outdoor activities to do with my daughter, but unfortunately I'm just not that knowledgeable when it comes to camping and hiking.
The illustration strips are cute and a great way to break up the text in the book. There's even a small section with recipes!
I'm ready for a family outdoor adventure!
This is such a cute book! I love the layout, with relative comic strips dispersed throughout. I think this will make a great addition to our juvenile non-fiction collection. It would also make a great gift for an aspiring outdoors enthusiast!
