I did not finish this audiobook, I simply couldn't. It was so bad.

Hudson and his best friend Kenny want to spend halloween in the forest with a few other friends from school. At first, Hudsons father is very much against it because you can't leave teens alone, at night, in a forest! He feels something horrible might happen.
And then a girl is dead and Hudson tells his father he did it, but Kenny says it was some sort of creature, a wild animal...

The idea itself was good and I thought it might be a great start for spooky season. But it was just not well done. I hated Kenny, Hudsons so called "best friend". He's just awful, I get that friends sometimes fight but Kenny is just insuffarable. And the fact that being a virgin is a crime and the way Kenny speaks about it is just as horrible. I don't want to spoil but I didn't like the way everything else was brought up and handled.

There were 2 narrators, one for Hudson and one for the father. Hudson's was fine, he did a good job but the fathers narrator... not so much. For some reason, he gave Matthias, the fathers boyfriend, a weird deep voice which was just unfitting and I didn't like it at all.

2 stars because as I said, the idea itself was good and Hudsons narrator did a good job. But otherwise, I don't recommend this.

3.5 Stars from me.

I love BP Walter's thrillers and I do love a good horror book but this was slightly missing something for me and I'm not sure what. Great storyline and the subject of spiders always gets under everyone's skin. I did enjoy the body/transformation description but in parts it lacked dread to make it a truly spooky read, ramping up the tension by repeating words which perhaps didn't come off as well narrated as it might have done on the page. The atmosphere was good in places and the narration was pleasant, although Mathias's voice was very strange.

Thanks very much to the author and the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this book. If this is the start of Barnaby's horror genre then I'm already excited for his next listen.
