Energy wars by Jodi Dee is about Myles, a thirteen year old boy who can see your energy. He sees the energy thrown behind each insult in the form of a fireball. Yes his school looks like it's at war lol! But there’s also something fishy going on in connection to this power and he has to figure it out before it's too late.
This book has some really interesting concepts and I enjoyed reading it. The writing style was easy to consume however I did find at times things were a bit too lengthy. There would be chunks of descriptions that just kind of took me out of the story. The book also had some odd moments, like why was a literal middle schooler being compared to Jesus…? As well, the ending of the book felt very abrupt (makes sense since it’s just a cliffhanger for the next book), but just something to keep in mind. I did love the various character relationships, they all felt distinct and real. I also like the introduction of the book where Myles talked to us directly, it sucked me right in.
There was some really good build up in the book and it felt like a great introduction to the series. Honestly, I’m pretty excited to read the next one!

Love this book- absolutely love it. It is so real and perfect for middle grade. It’s as if one of my students was telling the story to the rest. My class loved it. The conversations and topics were spot on for what coming of age is and the truth of growing up. It also touched on self awareness and kindness and how we all affect each other in ways we don’t even understand. Highly highly recommend for any child 8-13

Wow. I need to read the next one. Love how it shows the energy of our feelings. Also how just being kind to others can change the energy in a person.
