I really enjoyed how good the romance was in this book, it had that element that was realistic and worked overall with what I was looking for. The characters were everything that I was looking for and enjoyed how they worked in the romance comedy. Marion De Ré has a great writing style and can’t wait to read more.

I think officially this may be a standalone book, but it has a few of the same characters in The Tenacious Act , so I highly recommend reading that one first so you have a background to the characters.
This story introduces a new man to the street and he has the same name as my son, which in itself isn't a weird thing, but in the UK Deacon isn't a very common name at all, and it actually made my day to see it in a book.
Small thing for small minds and all that 🤣
I have read quite a few of this authors books, and I have enjoyed every single one.
And this one was no different. It was very easy to read, with likeable characters and a decent storyline.
And it seems to have set up a 3rd installment already so will definitely be looking out for that one.
Great author, fantastic book - would highly recommend.

Welcome back to this adorable series, One More Chapter Book!!! I am loving these darling characters. What do you do when you find like-minded friends who love books as much as you do? Why start a bookstore together of course!!! These three girls, Alice, Haley and Emma are adorable! They're my kind of people! Book besties are the best kind of friends ever! I loved reading Haley's chapter in the first book and I loved Alice's book just as much!

Alice and her neighbor don't get off on the right foot, or conversation, when they first meet. Haha! It's about books, and it doesn't sit well with Alice at all. Deacon is a grump and doesn't even seem sorry with his brusque manner. And after that conversation he is firmly on her enemy list. Oh my word. These two are so funny to watch. Thankfully there are several things that they just don't know about each other, and when they finally take the time to break down the barriers they've put up, they start to realize there's more to each other than they first realized.

They still have their moments throughout the book. But I loved watching Deacon come to Alice's aid and not allowing others to be jerks to her. Oh the irony! Haha!

I also loved the relationship that develops between Alice and Lola, Deacon's niece. It was so sweet to see how that relationship helped Deacon become closer to his niece. There's more to the story than what I'm saying and I'm trying to avoid spoilers, just know you're going to love it!

So many great scenes. Deacon is a romantic at heart and Alice doesn't stand a chance when he let's his heart be open to possibilities. Swoon!!!

Also, I am beyond EXCITED for Emma's book!!!!!!!! I loved how the author set up her story in this book. I highly recommend reading them all, but in order. You could read them as standalones but definitely much better in order.

Content: Clean. Some kisses but nothing further. Deacon does own a bar so there's some scenes in a bar but the drinking is not the focus.

I received a copy from the author, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

She owns a bookstore with her friends and they live above it. He's the owner of the bar nextdoor and neighbor. His methods of coping with his grief is causing problems between them and between him and his niece. Will they be able to find common ground? What happens when his niece breaks some of the rules? Can they recreate a family from broken hearts?

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for this amazing ARC read!

I enjoyed this grumpy single dad neighbor x sunshine bookstore owner read so much! 🩷 The romance in this was so good, it got giggling and kicking my feet. As always, I love the bookish FMC, even better paired with a secret cinnamon roll MMC 🩷 There were so many scenes I loved in this book! (IFYKYK)

Aside from the romance, the character development of Deacon was also really well-written. I always appreciate MMCs who are written as openly vulnerable and raw, and Deacon is one of them. Plus, he’s such a great book boyfriend. I’m a sucker for MMCs who know how to use their attentiveness and awareness to their advantage, and this book had scenes that proved that 🩷

I haven’t read the first book in this series yet, but now that I’ve finished this, I definitely need to read more from Marion De Ré!

I enjoyed this, and I liked the characters immensely , but I did find it a little bit predictable . Overall I would recommend this book.

This is my first Marion De Re book and I liked it. It’s kind of like real life – a bit messy, but just plain real. Alice is an adorable ‘bookworm’ who gets under Deacon’s skin. Of course, they are neighbors. Deacon is a bit older, but age is just a number. He has suddenly become guardian of his teenage niece, Lola, after his sister’s death. What can happen? A lot!

The funniest part of this cute book is when Deacon, literally, runs to get help with a screaming Lola and help turns out to be Alice. Alice and Lola, actually, have a lot in common. Deacon has some baggage of his own with which to deal but not before he breaks Alice’s heart. He, eventually, comes around and does so in style.

This is a stand-alone although part of the One More Chapter series about three young ladies who meet on line and decide to open a bookstore together. I am going to need to go back and read the first book in the series.

(I will publish review on Amazon on release date and will share on Facebook under Maggie Jo's Messages).

“The Enemy Plot” is the 2nd book in the “One More Chapter” series that follows three women that met on bookstagram and opened a bookstore together. Still, thw books can also be read as standalones.

This is the story of Alice, lover of romance books and especially audiobooks and her new neighbor and nemesis Deacon, a grumpy bar owner.

He just became the guardian for his teenage niece, that lost her mom (his sister). So they are both still grieving.

After spending more time with them, Alice gets to see underneath all the grumpiness and also gets along great with Lola, the book addicted niece.

I like that the story has dual POV and is written at 1st person. Also it is pretty short that I managed to read it in one day.

There are many refrences to books and bookstagram. Also I liked the character and relationship development, aided also by the fact that Deacon and Lola go to therapy.

My favorite part was the bookish date that Deacon planned. Even if I do not like the 3rd act break up in books, Deacon’s groveling was cute.

Now I have to read Hayley’s story and I am looking forward to Emma’s book, that comes out next year.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Booktok and bookworms mentioned!!! I loved it!

Gobbled it up in a day and I couldn't put it down.

I enjoyed the story, it made me want to read the previous book and made me want to read the next book.

It gave me all the good feels and I appreciated how realistic it was when it came to dealing with a teenager and grief.

My only struggle was with how Deacon's emotions were portrayed. I also wish the author went in deeper when it came to his relationships with his family aside from Lola.

Will post the review on Amazon and Tiktok once the book is out.

The Enemy Plot is such a well written story. This book combines the neighbors trope and the grumpy x sunshine trope so well.

These characters evolve so quickly into such a fun couple and you can see them truly care about eachother. Their growth both together and individually is shown so well and I love the inclusion of Deacon's therapy sessions. Although both Deacon and Alice have experienced and talk about loss, it doesn't bring the story down.

This fast paced, quick read is the perfect addition to the One More Chapter series. Like The Tenacious Act, this book gets you hooked on the stories of these three best friends/book shop owners. Marion De Ré did it again and I can't wait to see Emma's story.

*thank you netgalley for this arc*
