What a charming book this was! I look forward to my niece being a bit older so I can buy this for her. This is a lovely book for a middle-grade reader and history fan!
I thoroughly enjoyed the way the author wove history throughout this story and the passion for history shown by our excitable main character. We have here a time travel story in which our young, history buff main character travels back to the time of King Alfred. Unafraid and delighted to find herself experiencing this historical period first hand, she immerses herself in this world, becoming witness to a nefarious scheme.
The writing is a little young, however given the target audience this is completely understandable and makes for an easy to follow story.
I do enjoy a time travel story and I had great fun with this one. I was rooting for our studious main character, who won me over straight away with her enthusiasm for history. I enjoyed being by her side as she made new friendships and used her knowledge to navigate tricky situations. Certain plot points that happened later in the book (no spoilers!) were particularly satisfying in the conclusion of the story.
This book is perfect for young girls and I would love to have read it at that time, it was so nice to see a young girl fighting for their family belongings and history, it was just amazing
This is one of those books I would have been all over as a kid. An MC whose family run a museum and she also accidentally falls back in time? Sign 11 year old me up! This is such a fantastic portrait of a strong female characters. A perfect read for a middle grader AND adults! :)
this was a beautifully done novel, it uses the middle grade element in a way that worked well in the story. The characters felt like they were supposed to and enjoyed getting to know Amber in this. Ali Riley was able to write this perfectly and can't wait for more.
The Jewel of Saxon Wood is a middle-grade fantasy that follows ten-year-old Amber, a young history enthusiast, as she navigates the challenges of protecting her family's museum while facing unexpected adventures in a magical Saxon village. When Amber discovers a mysterious oak tree, she is whisked away into a world of courage, friendship, and the enchanting legend of a powerful jewel. I loved how the story seamlessly blends history with fantasy, making each character's journey feel both relatable and inspiring. Amber's growth throughout the book kept me engaged and rooting for her every step of the way!
🌟 Hold onto your hats, folks! The Jewel of Saxon Wood is a whirlwind of adventure that’ll whisk you away faster than a Viking raid! I fell head over heels for Amber and her epic quest to save her family’s museum while juggling her new life in a Saxon village—hello, warrior training! The friendships she forms and the way she finds her own courage are just so inspiring. If you love magic, mischief, and a sprinkle of history, this book is a great read! Seriously, grab a copy and dive in! 🏰✨
