Riley comes back to her foster parents 15 years after running away. Only it isn't Riley, It's her secret sister.
While I really wanted to like the story it felt very obvious and far fetched. There is no way that a foster girl disappeared (and from a set of parents that already had known issues) and nobody thought anything about the brand new hastily installed concrete patio? Also fake Riley had zero street sense considering she had been living in the streets for most of her life.
It was an average thriller and to a newer thriller reader it would probably be fine but a more avid reader is going to stop the issues very quickly.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookoture Audio, and the author for my copy of this book.
The Foster Daughter by Laura Wolfe is a great mystery thriller with intrigue and tension. It had me hooked even though it has a slow build up but soon gathers pace until the reveal and pay off at the end. The character development and plot line, I felt were in balance with each other which made for a great medium pace overall. I enjoyed Laura's writing style so I'll be actively reading more of her books in the future.
This book was narrated by Laura Kay Bailey who had a great voice for this type of thriller.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this audio arc

This worked well for me and I enjoyed escaping into the story and discovering how it would end. I liked the narration that really suited it.
I couldn't finish this audio book. The main character was so unlikeable, the opening chapter, so unbelievable and the narrator so grating, that I gave up after about 1/4 of the book.
I just listened to a great thriller. The Foster Daughter by Laura Wolfe was a great audiobook. Don’t miss this one.
The narrator takes a little getting used to but is fitting as the story is set in the USA. 🇺🇸
I have taken to listening to audio books on my commute and have often found myself sat in the car park waiting to hear the end of a given chapter. It’s a great plot with unexpected twists and turns. The front cover maybe gives a little bit too much away in hindsight but I didn't look at it in too much detail whilst listening. I think a physical book may be different. I will definitely look out for more books by this author and would recommend this book.
Thanks for letting me listen - I think it would make a good tv programme/film
Riley ran away 15 yrs ago from her foster home bringing shame to her foster parents, when she returns back their joy knows no bounds!
As all the people from Riley's past come together to meet her during her home coming party one of them reveals to her that they know what really is a fact and she should drop her act!
But as Riley tries to run away from so many odds she has to fight someone who seems to be following her around and almost tries to kill her!
Riley is also wanted for attempting to kill her ex-boss who is a sleazy man - as her past catches up she has to ensure that she is able to secure her and her son Noah's future.
A very fast paced thriller, on the edge!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookoture Audio for the ARC of this audiobook for my honest review
I love a book that I can guess the who dunnit and my brain is RUNNING but I still don’t get it right. It was well done and I enjoyed the story and the ending !! She didn’t do too much that made me frustrated haha. I recommends !
I'll be publishing my review on Goodreads and StoryGraph 15th November and on Tik tok most likely will add to a monthly wrap up post with review the beginning of December.
The Foster Daughter by Laura Wolfe
What do you do when you are in trouble? Return to the one home that you remember was safe… The foster parents you ran away from… They open the door to a woman they vaguely recognize holding the hand of a little boy but within a week of allowing her to stay with them… Someone she knew has ended up dead…
I loved it. It's one of those books that has you so twisted up you don’t know if up is down or left is right. It chilled me to my bone not knowing what was going on or who was telling the truth. The audio was smashing too. The narrator was bang on and I listened to the whole thing in one sitting.
No one seems to be who you think they are and this book will give you whiplash, in the best way, with all the twists and turns. I literally gasped at the end. Did not see any of it coming.
One of the best books I’ve listened to lately.

This book started off really slow but by the halfway mark everything had amped up and I was totally invested. The plot twists just kept coming and there was a never ending pool of suspects. I loved the ending to this novel, I didn't see it coming until the very last minute. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator of this audiobook, but I still enjoyed the book.
Thank you for giving me access to this audiobook. I enjoyed the narration and the plot. I very much enjoyed, will keep an eye out for it on shelves.
I loved this book! I was hooked from the very first pages all the way until the end. Lots of twists and turns that had my head spinning! I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was robotic, so much so that I checked to see if it was a real person reading or a synthesized voice. Highly recommend the book but skip the audio on this one if you can.
The Foster Daughter is an exciting, thrilling and addictive domestic thriller that had me absolutely hooked. It's filled with deception, secrets and lies. It definitely kept me on my toes for the entirety of it and I needed to know what the outcome was. It starts off with action and I didn't find there was much fluff which I truly enjoyed.
The first twist truly made my jaw drop, I couldn't have guessed that. It flipped my suspicions. The author is a great storyteller, knowing how to introduce multiple suspects and to keep you guessing. The characters are all highly compelling, the plot was complex and full of layers. The only thing that I was a little disappointed with, is the blurb makes it seem like it's going to be from the POV of the Foster Family, but we never truly get that POV it's mostly from the Foster Daughter.
Fun domestic thriller that kept me guessing. Very hard to put down until the final conclusion. The ending left room for a sequel maybe?
🎧 The narration by Laura Kay Bailey was good, was it the best no, her voice was very monotone and robotic sounding. It was still an enjoyable listen for me as I'm able to listen at higher speeds so it made it less robotic.
✨️Thank you to @netgalley, @bookouture & @laurawolfe for my gifted ALC in exchange for an honest review.
Foster Carers Wendy and George Eckhart had their lives changed when foster daughter Riley disappeared 15 years ago.
Their lives are about to change again as a young woman, with a small child knocks on their door one day. She apologises for running away all those years ago and explains she and her son Noah have nowhere else to go. Wendy immediately welcomes her in and slowly starts to help her settle back in.
Riley explains that she left with an older man, who made her throw away her phone. He then got her addicted to drugs and since having her son Noah, she has turned her life around and wants to be a good mum.
Reuniting with old friends and acquaintances, making new friends and trying to rebuild and improve her life.
However Riley is hiding a secret and it looks like that secret is about to catch up with her.
This started a little slow, but things did slowly pick up, a few twists and turns along the way.
I found the main character was quite Naive considering her upbringing and feel she would have been a lot more streetwise than she actually was.
I wasn’t overly keen on the Narration at times finding it quite annoying and robotic
I am looking forward to reading more from Laura in the future
What a great book/audio by Laura Wolfe! There are many twists and turns throughout the story that will keep you wanting to keep going. The narrator did a fantastic job as well. Everyone is this book has a secret, but which ones could be deadly! This one kept me listening, questioning, speculating, and I raced through it in a day. Grab the book or listen to the audio today, and see if you can guess whose secrets are harmless and whose are not.

Complicated pasts, mysteries to unfold, secrets buried...all of this and more unfold in this slowburn thriller. I wasn't sure at first where it was all heading, or if there was anyone worth rooting for, but the plot began to thicken and twist and then the events unfolded quickly with a wicked ending.
The narration had a bit of a slow pace but became easier to follow along.
I always love to give the Bookouture offerings a listen and am rarely disappointed. This was no exception.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARL. All opinions are mine.
Characters are unrealistic given the back story of abusive foster care and many of the circumstances were not very believable making the story not very engaging.
This was a tense, twisty psychological thriller
It was fast paced and I couldn’t seem to put it down with so many twists and turns and so many characters. What a roller coaster ride this audio was
Thank you to Netgalley
I listened to the audio version of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It kept me guessing all the way to the end.
The narrator has a very pleasant voice that made for a great listen.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for letting me review this as audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I started this book and it took me a little bit to get into it, but the audiobook narrator was still fantastic. It was interesting and around the 30% mark I was 100% in! I ran 4 different theories of what was going on and the real answer of whodunnit! But I will say I was pleasantly surprised and genuinely loved the book. Though there is a cliffhanger, leaving me hoping for a sequel!
