WoW ........... The Foster Daughter by Laura Wolfe and narrated by Laura Kay Bailey was an excellent audiobook/book and an absolutely heart-pounding and gripping psychological suspense novel I loved it. It was full of twists and turns throughout which made this book an excellent read and the narrator Laura Kay Bailey was superb!

I found this book to be compelling, gripping, and kept me at the edge of my seat. For me it was something new and different that I have not seen done before. I would highly recommend this to those looking for an intense, suspense thriller with a couple of twists along the way.

Four and a half stars for me!!

Riley, a single mom, is on the run and goes to the one person she thinks will take her in - her former foster mom, Wendy. Riley ran away years earlier, leaving her foster parents, friends, and everyone in the town looking for her and worried. But when Riley returned she was right and Wendy welcomes her back with open arms. It seems like everything is going good , until all these events that start happening threaten to unravel Riley’s life.
This is a page turner and keeps you guessing until the end. I would definitely recommend this book!

This novel masterfully delivers unexpected twists and a chilling atmosphere that had me constantly rethinking my theories about the characters and their motives. The author’s ability to maintain suspense and introduce layers of complexity to the plot showcases their remarkable storytelling skills. Each character's creepiness added to the tension, making it a gripping read from start to finish. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted thriller with plenty of surprises.

Three Word Review: deceit never wins

This one is a bit of a slow burn to start off but it soon ramps up the pace along with the twists and turns. This is one listen that will have you suspicious of everyone. Likeable and unlikeable characters that are well developed although Riley’s character came across as naive considering her circumstances. The narrator did a good job of spinning the story and keeping me engaged.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen and review #TheFosterDaughter

Wow the twists in this one. I was expecting almost none of this. I mean our girl went through a lot! I love the ending. The narration was great too!

Secrets from the past come back to threaten the future in this unpredictable, twisty, intense thriller. The first twist totally caught me off guard, followed by countless other mind-bending events. The beginning started as a slow burn, but the action quickly escalated toward the surprising, gripping conclusion. The narration masterfully brought the characters to life while adding a layer of mystery and tension. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook.

The Foster Daughter is a good listen - especially for when you are cooking, cleaning or driving. It's a whodunnit with some twists, but it's not all that hard to figure out who the culprit is, especially as the book advances..

The story of Riley, a young teen who goes missing from her foster family in the midwest, the book tells of her return to town after a 15 year absence, this time with her 4 year old son in tow.. She is running from her previous location, where she stole money and stabbed her boss, and changing her appearance and story are not as successful as she'd like to think. She returned to town to presumably live a new life, but her story, which is revealed to us over the course of the book, is a lot more complicated than it seems. The ending leaves the reader with a cliff-hanger of sorts.

This was an interesting and quick listen. When a families long lost foster daughter returns things go awry. People begin to question if she’s the same girl that went missing all those years ago. And if she isn’t, then who is she and what really happened all those years ago?

I’m so torn in the rating for this book however have decided to star the story rather than the impact of the narrator.
If you are wanting a thriller that you cannot put down due to all the twists, turns and shifts in storyline, then buy this book! Brilliantly written although the epilogue is either very clever or maybe a disappointment…..
The unveiling of the ‘why’s’ of some of the characters was a surprise….loved that!
However, I cannot move away from the distracting narration. Although I adjusted the speeds I just could not find a setting that made the narrator more comfortable to listen to. She was so clinical/robotic and this distracted me from the thriller. Real shame.

I’d like to thank Netgalley and Bookature for my ARC in return for an honest review

This was an audiobook and unfortunately the narrator spoiled this story, her speech was very disjointed with unnecessary pausing, it became uncomfortable to listen to. I’d also say that the narrators choice of tones to represent different character and moods was sometimes off. I think this spoilt the overall plot of the book and maybe reading it would be better because the premise was good, it just didn’t appeal unfortunately

Not a bad listen at all , lost of twists and turns I did get a bit confused around chapter 30 and had to relisten to a few chapters but overall a good book

I flew through this gripping psychological suspense novel! I love it because I was invested in the storyline & Riley. She’s a strong protagonist that I was rooting for no matter her secrets. Yet, there were many secrets that other characters harbored and twists right until the very last page.

Laura Kay Bailey is the perfect narrator and conveys the events with perfect timing.

Thank you, Laura Wolfe, Bookouture, Bookouture audio & netgalley for my early copy & audiobook! All opinions are my own.

The twists in this book just kept coming. This book took off from the moment it started. I was hooked from the very beginning. I was right there with Riley when she was accusing everyone around her. I was just as shocked as she was when the final blinders were pulled from her eyes, revealing the truth. I only wish the book had felt a little more suspenseful. I did like how it ended alluding to more parts. Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC of this audio book!

Loved this! Such a gripping story. I was hooked from the beginning and on the edge of my seat until the very end. I was rooting for Riley, the main character, all the way through. I honestly had no idea who the culprit was until the shocking reveal. The final twist at the very end gave me chills. A perfect whodunit thriller. Can't wait to check out Laura Wolfe's other titles.

Highly recommend for fans of mystery. domestic thrillers, psychological thrillers and suspense.

4.4 rounded down to 4.

Riley and her 4-year-old son Noah show up unannounced at Riley’s former foster parents’ home after an incident leaves Riley desperate for safety and a new start. Though, Riley has some explaining to do as she had run away from her foster home 15 years prior without warning. While her former friends and foster parents are thrilled to see Riley again, mysterious things begin to happen and dark secrets are unearthed.

This book was an epic roller coaster ride. Just when you think you have things figured out, the narrative takes a turn. It takes place near my own hometown in Michigan which was extra exciting for me. I loved the character development and dialogue. It was very realistic and helped to enhance the story rather than detract. I thought the narration for the audiobook was good and very immersive, especially with the different voices used to distinguish between characters. Definitely a book I’ll be thinking about for a long time!

Thank you Bookouture Audio for providing this audiobook for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Laura Wolfe for writing such a wonderful book.

I feel like this audiobook had really good potential but I just couldn’t get into it. Usually with thrillers I get through them very quickly, eager to find out what will happen next. But with this one I was bored.
