After a scary incident, Riley and four year old son Noah escaped to a town connected to her past.
Running away fifteen years prior from her foster parents Riley lands on their doorstep praying they will let her stay with them. Wendy and George had a lot of questions for Riley but allowed her to stay.
What follows is a rollercoaster of suspense and secrets!!

This story did suck me in at the start but the narration was so robotic it threw me off a bit. I did love the twisty and very clever ending!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced audio copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Okay, this has multiple twists that I did not expect! I don't want to say much about my thought process while reading at the risk of giving anything away. I want you to be surprised like me! I went through this pretty quickly because I just did not know what was going to happen next. I will definitely read more from this author.

The audio narration was pretty good. I enjoyed the MC voice quite a lot. Some of the side character voices didn't work for me but at least it was clear who each person was.

4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✨ psychological thriller
✨ childhood trauma
✨ family drama

✨Riley is a trouble teen who has been living with Wendy and George Elkhart for about a year until Riley decide to runaway with cash with her.

After so many years she came back with a son - Noah- knocking on there doorstep to provide a shelter.

After Riley came back, lots of sinister happens.
Lots of secrets was revealed .
The only thing that I’m not happy with this is how “Riley” or whatever is she really is- always bringing her son with her. Changing names and cities and it affect Noah on all aspect. Anyway, it was a great read.

Ending was not expected at all. Which is a plus.
Definitely worth the read

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC audiobook.

My streak of great books continues with The Foster Daughter! All around, this audiobook was very enjoyable. The narrator read at a good pace and was pleasant to listen to. The story draws you in and holds you til the very end. I quite liked the ending, as it seems like a happy ending, but is everything actually resolved for the MC? There’s many twists and turns throughout this book while trying to find out what happened to Riley and who was involved. I found myself constantly changing who I thought had a hand in her disappearance. Even though this is a twisty thriller, it is easy to follow. I really liked how the author wrote the character Noah, who is the MC’s son in this story, as he was very believable in how a child would act in this situation of changing identities and keeping up his mother's ever-changing background stories throughout his life. I can’t wait to read more from author Laura Wolfe.

Single mom, Riley, is on the run and goes to the one person she thinks will take her in - her former foster mom, Wendy. Riley ran away years earlier, leaving her foster parents, friends, and the whole town in a frantic search. But, despite that, Riley was right and Wendy welcomes her back with open arms. It seems like everything is going perfectly, until a chain of events threaten to unravel Riley’s life.

This is an exceptional psychological thriller with so many twists, deceptions, and unreliable narrators. It was impossible to stop listening until I reached the end. My mind was racing trying to figure out what was really going on and who could be trusted. A must-read!

The narrator, Laura Kay Bailey, did a great job bringing all the characters to life. Using different accents, it was easy to distinguish who was speaking.

Thank you for allowing me to listen in advance!

I loved The Foster Daughter by Laura Wolfe. I'm unfamiliar with the author, but I will absolutely be looking for more reads from her. This one had me guessing throughout, kept me listening, stunned me a bit, and left me wanting more. Main character, Riley, an adult with a son and no where to go shows up on the doorstep of one of her childhood foster families seeking help. The couple welcomes her back, she meets up with other now-adults from the system, and thus begins the mystery of who she is and how she ended up down on her luck.

This one has all the elements of a good domestic thriller, nicely fleshed out characters and enough twists to keep any reader engaged. Easily can recommend this one.

BUT......

read the book. I listened to an audio arc from Netgalley and spent much of the time thinking this had to be AI narration. I went so far as to look up the credited narrator to make sure she was a human reader. I found the cadence to be stilted, off-putting and without emotion. The tiny little conspiracy voice in my head then began to wonder if the "theys" wanting virtual voice instead of humans have gone to the effort to create fake histories for credited readers......see this rabbit hole I started down? Blair Witch mastered the pre movie release of seeding the internet with "history" so we all believed it was legit......

I tried different speeds and settled on 1.5 times normal just to try to get through the reading. Shame, really. The story is good. In fact, so good, I could still get past the narration and recognize it was interesting.

This was so damned good!! More twists and turns than you can imagine, and a complete masterclass in keeping you guessing and wanting more from the story. I guessed a couple but while I knew who, I didn’t know why. Excellent!!

I have to be clear though that I really didn’t enjoy the narration, I messed with the speed a lot, and no matter what I done the voice sounded robotic, computer generated almost. The sad thing is that I really didn’t want to stick with it but the story had me hooked, and technically I should’ve rated this title higher, but I had to be true to the overall audiobook.

My thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this ELC

The narrator did a fantastic job, and I was drawn in from the first sentence. This was an excellent book; I was eager to finish it and see how it ended. However, I wouldn't say I liked the ending, so the book didn't get a higher rating.

This review is tricky to write without revealing spoilers, but I will say that it was full of surprises and kept me entertained.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the advanced listening copy.

The Foster Daughter
Laura Wolfe
Wendy and George Eckhart were foster parents until they took in Riley. Riley was a teenager, and she lived with the Eckhart family for about a year. They did everything they could to make her feel at home and to feel like she was part of a family. Her life was better at the Eckharts but she ran away, causing them to lose their foster license.
Riley and her four-year-old son Noah knocked on the door of the Eckharts fifteen years later. She apologizes and begs the Eckharts for their help. She claims an older man took her to Los Angeles, where he turned her into a sex slave and a drug addict. Pregnancy and the birth of her son Noah made her want to straighten out her life. She is off drugs and determined not to ever have her son placed in foster care. Is the woman really Riley? She says she is and she does resemble Riley but is it really her?
Wendy is a very forgiving woman and allows Riley back into the fold. The Eckharts allowed Riley to rent the apartment above their garage. Riley must lay low; she is in danger. The family gather for a barbecue to celebrate the return of Riley. Things go well until the local news station insists on interviewing her. Riley has no chance to get out of the interview and now she is terrified. A former friend of Riley is dead.
This book is filled with twists and turns. Unfortunately, some of the side stories are not wrapped up.
Thank you NetGalley for the review copy.

Holy crap! This book had so many twists and turns in it that it kept me on the edge of my seat. I listened to this audiobook in one sitting because I just couldn't stop (thank you 2x speed!). I have read a lot of mystery/thriller books and at some point, they all become somewhat predictable, but this one was the complete opposite. I had no idea what was going to come next at any point in the story.

Definitely a five-star read for me and I plan to look into more books by this author.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #BookoutureAudio for the book #TheFosterDaughter by #LauraWolfe. I loved this roller coaster ride of emotions and deception. Riley has returned to her foster home 15 years after she ran away. She now has a son and they have no place to go. When her foster parents take her and her son in again, some things just don’t add up? What’s Riley hiding?

popcorn thriller

Riley a foster runaway, returns home after 15 years. As she settles into her new life, her paranoia grows. She’s sure someone’s following her and afraid of her secrets being revealed

The book is really exciting and mystery after mystery appears in Riley’s life. I suspected everyone, as did Riley!

I enjoyed the audiobook. The narrator was great with accents and it was a super easy listen/read

The ending was surprising and juicy but I hoped for a more solid conclusion. A couple of events were unresolved and a flashback would have been the cherry on top

Future readers, just know that The Foster Daughter is all about deception and hides so many secrets, it is a little difficult for us to review it without spoiling it for you... but I'll do my best!

"I'd spent my entire adult life honing the craft of deception."

Riley, the teenage foster daughter of the Eckhart's, ran away and disappeared in the middle of the night. Years later, she shows back up at their door with her four year old son. Where was she? Why did she leave? Why did she come back? Nevertheless, she is welcomed home with open arms. Life begins to settle back into some normalcy.... until Rileys past begins to catch up with her.

This book didn't fluff around at the beginning and jumped straight into the action! We loooovvve that! Throughout the book there is a lot of speculation, secrets unfolding, realisations made, and lies being unraveling. This made for a super interesting and engaging read. This book has lots of shocking twists and I didn't expect the huge one that came at about halfway through! Towards the end though, it got a little bit more predictable but because it seemed that everyone could be a potential suspect, I was never really sure who it was.

As for the things I didn't enjoy.... The ending hmmm.... I don't think I was a fan of the ending. Yes, questions were answered and then it was wrapped up in a nice little bow but I felt like there could have just been something more. There was a little cliffhanger at the end that leaves room for a sequel.
Another thing I didn't understand is the book blurb - I picked up this book thinking that it was going to be from the perspective of the foster parents but was surprised that it is in the perspective of the daughter, Riley.
The narrator did a great job but I thought that she gave the foster mother, Wendy, a terrible accent that made me cringe at times.

All in all, this was a suspenseful read that still had me up late listening and crawling into bed at 2am. I enjoyed this story and after reading this book I'm definitely going to check out the authors other books!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio and author Laura Wolfe, for an advance copy of this audiobook. Catch You Later is available from October 11th, 2024!

Unexpected reveals, plenty of twists, and secrets galore will keep you on your toes throughout this book. It's a fabulously entertaining listen with a great narrator

Riley has moved from foster home to foster home. Then Riley runs away and hasn’t been seen since. Until now. When she returns to her former foster home, where they lovingly welcome her in and give Riley and her son a place to stay. But, Riley has her own secrets – and she is running from the cops. And now it looks like danger has followed her to the front door.

Oh, this was so good. I thought I had it all figured out, and the author did a really good job of dropping bread crumbs leading me in the wrong direction. So when the truth is revealed – I was like “Oh man, never thought about that”, but it all made perfect sense.

So good, and stayed up way to late to finish this one! Fast paced, likeable and relatable characters, GREAT TWIST!

I ddi the audiobook vesion, and the narrator makes a huge difference! This narrator is awesome in the voices and intonation, and totally just drew me in!

RECOMMEND – totally enjoyed this one!

You dive right into the action with Riley on the run with her 4-year-old son after robbing and stabbing her former boss. Once she returns to a childhood foster home to lay low, more mystery about her past rises. This thriller keeps you guessing with plenty of twists and was an exciting book to listen to. High paced drama from beginning to end! I didn't want to stop listening. Listened at 1.75x speed and narration was great.

I couldn't stop listening to this audiobook, it isn’t what I expected. It was read by a narrator who did do the occasional different voice but was mostly from the perspective of the main character. The first plot took a turn early on which caught me off guard and from then on there on kept me guessing as to what would happen next. Very twisty, in a good way.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC

Mind. Blown! This was a totally gripping and fast paced thriller that kept me guessing!

When Riley returns to the foster home she ran away from, she is welcomed with open arms, despite having stolen money from her foster parents, Wendy and George. Riley needs to stay under the radar as someone else is on the look out for her and as some of her lies start to catch her out, her past is getting ever closer.

A massive twist about half way through had me floored and changed everything! And from that point on, the twists just kept on coming! Wow!

The audiobook was brilliantly narrated by Laura Kay Bailey, who did such a great job of voicing several characters convincing.

5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Laura Wolfe and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
