An action thriller tale, Stephen W Briggs’s Family of Killers (2022) is a pacy drama of a generational family business of assassins. One night, seven-year-old David is pulled from his bed in Portadown, Northern Ireland, as his family flees to Canada to live. Over the years, David learns the family business of manufacturing guns, hits for hire and other international criminal activities. Yet, as David becomes a most efficient killer, it will be years before he can avenge his father’s 1977 ambush murder and finally confront the man who sold out his father. Part family saga with the contrasting tensions between a ‘normal’ suburban life and the violent family business outcomes underpinning their income, makes this an enjoyable enough action tale with a three and a half stars read rating. This was a strong start to the Family of Killers series, it uses the concept perfectly and enjoyed the assassin element to this. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and that it was everything that I was looking for. It had that coming of age element that I wanted and thought Stephen W. Briggs wrote this perfectly.
