This book was okay to start off with but just didn’t get any better unfortunately, I found it very predictable and it wasn’t one for me.

Thank you Netgalley, MA Hunter and Boldwood books for the eArc of The Reunion

I've read Sleep Walker by MA Hunter so thought Id give this one a whirl as I really enjoyed his writing style.

What I really enjoyed was the dynamics between the MCs and how their stories were interwoven. The pacing of the narrative itself was medium building around the characters and their backgrounds. Combined with the twists and the finale, The Reunion made for a great psychological thriller.

Started off well, then kept going down. Normally, unlikable characters don't bother me, but this group of ppl left me not caring what happened to them. There was too much internal dialog, with not enough action. It was just too slow; dragged out in certain situations. Just didn't feel like a thriller.

The book was OK. It was fairly predictable. My guess was wrong on some parts but overall I figured out the plot twist pretty early on. This is a 2-person POV book along with a couple of chapters with a third person. In all honesty it should have been a minimum of a 4-person POV. After the plot twist was revealed I felt like it should have piggy backed off of the prologue, but it didn't.

Hunter is back with a gem of a read that has been completely impossible to put down. I was hooked from the beginning of this one and devoured this in just one sitting.

There are a number of twists in this which keep you guessing throughout. I absolutely adored getting lost in this gem and became completely caught up in this one.

Hunter has paced this perfectly and it’s written in a way that you feel you are watching this unfold before you. This has been a twisty and enthralling read which I didn’t want to put down.

I’ve read a few of Hunter’s books and I can safely say they get better and better. I absolutely recommend this and I’m already excited for what may come next.

This is brilliant.

This was an okay story about a group of friends keeping a secret that years later someone else will kill to know. I liked most of the characters but it was a rather average read.

I enjoyed this. I didn’t love it, but I was invested enough in the story to want to know how it would end. Great plot with a good cast of characters who had interesting backstories. My only issue was that the way the characters were written, not one of them was likeable in any way - they were all SO suspicious of each other and lacked any trust for a group of friends with a secret they’ve kept for so long. And some of them were so fickle in their suspicions - seeming convinced of one thing and then with very little suggestion, convinced of the opposite. All of that made the whole thing a bit too far fetched for me to really buy into. I do think this has good bones, but just needed a little better character development.

I love a remote setting for a thriller, so this book was interesting from the get-go! This book was paced excellently and I look forward to visiting more of MA Hunter's work!

The Reunion follows four friends reunited for a wedding in Scotland, but old secrets resurface after two decades. Zoe, Lily, and Dan travel to a remote island for Ron and Bella’s wedding at his family estate. Lily drives them in her dad’s old Range Rover, bringing Zoe and Dan together again after years apart. Once close, Zoe and Dan had a relationship before Seth’s tragic death.

The book reveals Seth’s diary entries, which offer clues leading up to his death, making us wonder how they tie into the present-day tensions and buried secrets within the group.

The Scottish highlands set a beautiful yet eerie backdrop, adding to the suspense. While the plot was somewhat predictable, I still found it engaging and enjoyable.

This is an entertaining and enjoyable, fast-paced psychological thriller set in remote locations.
Zoe, Lily, Dan and Rod are friends from college who have drifted apart. They are all invited to attend Dan’s wedding on a remote island off Scotland. The tension begins to unfold as they all travel to the wedding in the same car with the addition of Dan’s fiancée, Bella.
Told in two timelines, past and present, with several point of view characters, the tension increases as the secrets each of the friends are hiding unravels their fragile newfound friendships. The remote locations added to the tense atmosphere.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.

Who generally enjoys reunions? I know I don't and never show up to such gatherings. Personally, I find them awkward and pretentious. Maybe it's just me being my introverted, highly anti social self or my lack of patience into dealing with trivialities or what have yous. This story is exactly what I dread about reunions and for lack of a better phrase, it would be better to just steer clear off them. Love the pacing of this boom and it wasn't predictable which I liked.

Zoe has lost contact with her friends Rod, Dan, and Lily since their graduation, especially after her breakup with Dan following a significant accident. Now, she receives an invitation to Rod's wedding to Bella in Scotland, but the situation is anything but ordinary. When they encounter trouble on a deserted road, it forces them to reevaluate their relationships and the truths they thought they knew about one another. This story captivated me from the start. Each character harbored secrets from the others, adding to the tension. The mystery remained unsolved until the final pages.

It's been years since Zoe last saw them – since they graduated, drifted apart, and lost touch.

Years since Zoe ended things with Dan because the memories were too painful to bear.

Years since that night – the night an unexpected death shattered their close-knit group of friends.

Now, Zoe is invited to Scotland for a wedding – a grand affair at a manor house on a remote island. Apprehensive about the reunion, she hopes the long drive with Lily will help ease her nerves.

But things are far from simple. Lily has also agreed to give Dan a lift, and Rod, not wanting to be left out, is joining them as well, along with his fiancée.

And when they come into trouble on a cold, dark, desolated Highland road, it sets off a chain of events which will leave them all shaken to their very core, and questioning everything they thought they knew…

Amazing story from start to finish. Cannot wait to read more from the author. Will recommend to others

I really enjoyed this book! I was guessing the whole time, but luckily it was super fast paced and I binged it in one sitting. I usually struggle with thrillers because they drag on too long but I thought this one was the perfect length. The best part was that I didn't predict the ending when that is normally my issue, books being too predictable.

The Reunion brings together four friends for a wedding, but it also brings out secrets that have been buried for the better part of twenty years. Zoe, Lily and Dan are heading to Scotland for Ron and Bella’s wedding at his family estate in the picturesque but remote island off the coast of Scotland.
Lilly borrows her dads old Range Rover and offers to drive the gang up north, putting Zoe and Dan in close proximity after not seeing each other for a long time, Zoe now married used to date him before they all went off to university and after that fateful night where there friend Seth died.

we are privy to Seth’s diary entries throughout the book that gave us breadcrumbs on the lead up to his death, and I had some guesses as to how they were connected to the groups current situation, as to what was really going with everyone and the secrets they have been harbouring for almost 20 years.

I loved the setting of this book, I know how remote the highlands are. The story was intriguing as it was somewhat predictable btu never the less I enjoyed it.

The Reunion was a very captivating and thrilling story! I could not put this book down.
4 long time friends meet again for Rods wedding and the reunion is nothing they expected it to be. 20 years ago another friend passed away in an accident that the whole group feels guilty for, what really happened that night?
I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and so easy to read. I had an assumption as to what was going on and was slightly correct but it was very interesting figuring out where things were going and learning the reason behind things!
Such an easy and captivating story. Highly recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the arc!

I have mixed feelings about The Reunion. The plot was undeniably gripping—I stayed up late reading, eager to see what would happen next.

However, certain aspects left me wanting more. For one, the extensive inner dialogue and backstory became tedious. I was rather exasperated two-thirds in. I wish the story had begun during the characters' earlier lives. I think this might have reduced the need for exposition and added more action to the mix.

I was also incredulous at the liar’s inability to keep even basic facts straight.

That said, unlike some reviews, I didn’t find the climax entirely predictable. It was, however, underwhelming for a book marketed as a thriller. The focus on psychological tension rather than edge-of-the-seat danger places The Reunion more firmly in the realm of suspense, in my opinion.

Overall, it is an engaging read worth picking up for its captivating plot. Just don't expect a heart-pounder.
