It's always lovely to read a book ABOUT books so I really liked this! I wish there had been slightly more opportunity for the romance to develop as it felt slightly rushed and overshadowed by several other storylines that were happening at the same time. Overall, a lovely book!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this book!!
What a good book!! This one had me hooked from page one! I could t put it down. I loved the writing style of this book. I lived the characters and they had great chemistry.
I loved the premise of this book! I really enjoyed the multigenerational relationship between Allie and Martin, especially Martins character development. I think the author mentorship storyline was great and decently executed. My main issue with this book is I think there were too many things going on which meant none of the storylines got the focus they deserved. The publishing house storyline felt rushed, as did the romance storyline in my opinion. I loved Will’s cheekiness and the banter between him and Allie but I felt a little robbed of the opportunity to fully invest in them and see how they fell in love.
A decent read overall! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
📚✨ The Plot Twist by Eleanor Goymer ✨📚
"Two authors. Zero words. One plot swap. And the cutest caterer you’ll ever meet."
When romcom author Allie meets grumpy crime novelist Martin, they’re both drowning in writer’s block and missed deadlines. Their solution? Switch genres. (Chaos pending.)
🧡 Found family? Check.
😏 Swoony caterer named Will? Absolutely.
😂 Hilarious banter? Everywhere.
🔥 Spicy scenes that had me blushing and kicking my feet? YES.
Allie and Martin’s friendship is pure gold—think grumpy/sunshine but platonically—and Will? MY GOODNESS. He’s got book boyfriend written all over him. Goymer perfectly blends humor, heart, and a little spice into a romcom that feels fresh and uplifting.

I thought this was a fun, uplifting book that was enjoyable and easy to read. This one was a bit predictable but the story was lovely. I really enjoyed the relationship between Martin and Allie and felt it added some additional character to the story. I really like how she wrote and eventually was able to share the story with Martin and his wife. Will was adorably cute and I see a long future between him and Allie.

Really struggled to get into it at first. The third person writing style is one I usually have a hard time with. It did pick up about halfway through and i"m glad I kept going. I liked Martin and hers dynamic a lot and the romance was cute.
Romcom author Allie and Martin both suffer from writer's block. They decide to switch plots and tell each other's stories.... Along the way, lots of fun and romance when she meets Will....
Lovely rom com. Will is terrific and Allie is great too. Love how they met.... I enjoy the plot about how even authors run out of ideas at time.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
3.5 stars
Overdue with their books, rom com writer Allie Edwards and ‘publishing dinosaur’ crime writer Martin Clark make a pact. Allie will give Martin her random crime novel idea, if he gives her an idea for a romance novel. Meanwhile waiter Will might also be the spark Allie’s missing after her boyfriend dumps her. Throw in a publishing #MeToo intrigue and ‘The Plot Twist’ lives up to its title.
I really enjoyed the premise of this book, though I can't help but wish Allie and Martin switched genres. Also, at times, the pacing felt a bit slow at the start trying to blend all the stories in one. Romance-wise, while I felt Allie and Will's connection, I think this felt not as well-realised because of everything else going on.
The strengths of this book the multi-generational friendship, though, at times, while I understood where Allie was coming from, Martin was a privileged man and it was worth calling him out, it felt heavy-handed and unnecessary at times. Allie was, for most of the book, frustrating, but still a compelling and complex character to see how it would play out. She could be self-absorbed and some of her views on romance were contradictory. She also had no right to get upset by Will not opening up, when she kept her own secret and wasn’t paying attention to all the signs in front of her! However, I appreciated that this was part of her journey and was called out by her best friend. Plus its good to see women do the grovelling.
Overall, this was charming and fun with a fresh premise. Another winner from Eleanor Goymer. More please.

I didn’t want to put this book down! It was easy to read with likable characters and an interesting premise. Even though parts of the story were predictable, I enjoyed Martin and Allie exchanging writing ideas in a platonic relationship; that felt more original than a romantic relationship developing, and Will added another fun dimension to the story.
This wasn’t quite a slam-dunk five-star read for me because multiple events felt cliche and over-dramatic. However, the book won me over. Allie was eventually willing to do the right thing, and the book has some inspiring (albeit heavy-handed) messages. This is a charming, enjoyable read! I give it 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

The Plot Twist by new to me author E. Goymer, published by Harper Collins UK / One More Chapter is an entertaining read telling the story of Allie, a romance author and Martin a crime novelist who both struggle with writers block. So wha not switch genres? Nothing easier right. Right?
Blurb: This love story is a work in progress... When romcom author Allie Edwards crosses paths with bestselling crime novelist – aka publishing dinosaur – Martin Clark at a party, they discover they both have crippling writer’s block, overdue manuscripts and precisely zero words to show to their respective editors. With deadlines looming, Allie and Martin decide to switch plots and tell each other’s stories. In the writing process, Allie not only gains a father-figure in Martin, but also meets gorgeous events caterer Will, the answer to the leading man-shaped hole in her life and her lack of spicy material. Caught between love and her career, what could possibly go wrong.

I was invited by the publisher to review this book. Allie and Martin are in the same industry; they are both writers, just of different genres. Allie writes romantic comedies, while Martin writes crime thrillers. Another thing in common? They are both in a writing rut and have no ideas to get out of it. So they decide to shake things up, and switch their respective roles. During this, Allie winds up meeting Will, who just so happens to fit two needs in her life: material and a plus one.
I totally loved the overall plotline of this book. I though the idea of two writers swapping genres was really fun, and I loved the role that Martin played in this book. I also enjoyed when Will came into the picture; their relationship had just the right balance. Finally, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a laugh or a general lighthearted read. This checks all of the boxes.
