Not much to say other than that I had a lovely time with this book and would read anything Eleanor Goymer writes in the future. Sometimes that's all you need.

This delightful romcom is a love letter to storytelling, complete with writer’s block (relatable), plot swaps, and a touch of unexpected magic. When romance author Allie and grumpy crime novelist Martin team up to write each other’s books (it's giving Beach Read!!), it sparks not only creativity but a heartwarming friendship that becomes the soul of the story.
Allie is relatable, funny, and refreshingly self-aware, and watching her bond with Martin is just as satisfying as the romance itself. Their dynamic is full of wit and warmth — think odd couple meets creative soulmates. As she finds her footing again, Allie also meets Will, a swoon-worthy caterer who brings both heat and heart to her life (and manuscript). Their romance is light, flirty, and genuine, and adds just the right amount of spice.
This book beautifully blends humor, vulnerability, and the chaos of chasing a deadline, all while exploring what it means to write your own story—literally and figuratively. It’s about love, yes, but also about reinvention, creative courage, and the unexpected people who help you find your voice.
Funny, feel-good, and full of heart—this is the perfect read for fans of books about books and happily-ever-afters.

Clever and utterly charming! A love story for book lovers, full of meta moments and unexpected turns. Eleanor Goymer delivers a witty, page-turning romance with a twist you'll love.

What happens when you're blocked but the monster of publishing fires your editor and threatens you to make your deadline or else? Apparently, make friends with one of the most famous authors under the publishing house though he also was having issues writing, decide to fix this author's life problems and start dating a handsome guy you keep running into. There is so much fun with this multigenerational discussion of writing and publishing, and the ideas of family.
This was such a sweet book and it was so hard to put down.

This book had me GRIPPED from the start and I loved it all the way through. Loved the characters and was really invested in their stories. Eleanor’s ability to intertwine serious topics with a lighthearted tone and humour, is clever and effective.

I received an advance reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This story had a lot of good elements; however, I overall found it went into too many tangents too quickly and made it difficult to effectively build solid character development. In sum, it felt scattered. And there were many times where the author’s attempts at subtle hints of where the story was headed were just painfully obvious and dragged out well beyond necessary (and in at least one case, maybe not at all - eg. Was Jess even pregnant??). I really wished the book would hurry up to the end versus being disappointed that it was already over. 2.5 stars.

Just a little too much going on in terms of mistaken identity before revealed to the characters - at a certain point it feels too contrived.

I loveeee a good romance author who has writers block trope. I eat it up. I also love when they seek help from another author who writes in a totally different genre than they do. This book was so cute, I absolutely adored it

Really enjoyed this book. The characters were really enjoyable to read about and it was just a fun time. Thank you so much for letting me read the ARC!

Allie is a romance author who is struggling to write her next novel, despite many extensions, though the romance in her life is definitely lacking, especially when her boyfriend leaves her for another. Martin is a crime writer who is also struggling to write his next book. The two team up to help eachother, Allie gives Martin ideas ona crime novel and she helps him with ‘saving’ his marriage. During this time Allie meets Will, and the new boss at their publishing house is making waves in all the wrong ways.
This book started off promising, and I was sucked in with the blurb and the gorgeous cover, and as this is a rom com I did expect some more romance and comedy than this book gave me, but I did enjoy it! It’s definitely a nice read for when you need something lighter, when you need something to make you feel happy!
There were some more serious topics that were touched on, but Eleanor Groymer managed to keep a lighthearted theme throughout the book. I enjoyed the writing style as it flowed well, but I think some of the plots just needed a little more depth to them, but overall it was an enjoyable read! I am giving The Plot Twist 3 stars, and I would pick up another book by Eleanor Groymer!

I love a rom-com. They're so easy to read and I love the direction they all take. The plot twist was a great story and I loved the characters. The storyline was created well and I really enjoyed following the characters and their antics. It was a great read.

I really tried but this book wasn't for me. Didn't like the writting, the story or the characters. I couldn't make myself read to the end because there wasn't a single element that hooked me. Life is too short to read books that don't captivate us, so this is a DNF for me.

I did not finish this book.
Harry Potter references in this day and age? As a queer person, I cannot stress this enough. NO. We don’t need it. While I appreciate the story did a lot for a lot of people, we cannot separate the art from the artist. Especially when that artist is as horrible as Rowling. Her internal misogyny completely undoes everything the author was trying to say about discrimination and patriarchy.

I really really wanted to like this book. I'm a sucker for a cute romance but I got so frustrated with Allie that I almost gave up and DNF.
How she could be so utterly clueless was just beyond reason, not the least for making decisions like a deranged teenager as opposed to a 30 something "published author".
The premise was promising but the execution was lacking.
It felt like there were too many plot lines happening and nothing overtly exciting happened with any of them...
Can't even say it'd make a good Summer beach read as I just found the book quite excruciating from about the third chapter.
Will actually seemed like a good character but we hardly find out anything about him for being the lead love interest.
All in all. It's hours of my life I wish I'd spent reading something else.
**Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for giving me an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Loved the idea for the plot of this book, but the execution wasn’t there for me. It was a lighthearted and easy read, which I do appreciate. I just wish the romance had been a little more engaging. I didn’t connect with the main couple the way I want to when reading a romance.

3.5/5 stars rounded up!
A charming story with heart, humor, and just enough spice
The Plot Twist is a love letter to storytelling, unexpected friendship, and the magic that can happen when you step outside your comfort zone. I really enjoyed this one—it was witty, cozy, and had that perfect blend of warmth and romantic tension.
The dynamic between Allie and Martin was a standout for me. Their unlikely friendship gave the book an extra layer of depth, and watching their creative partnership unfold was just as satisfying as the romantic arc. Allie’s chemistry with Will brought the romantic comedy vibes I was hoping for, and the behind-the-scenes look at publishing and writer's block felt both relatable and fun.
It’s a story about writing, yes—but it’s also about growth, connection, and finding joy again in what you do and who you love. Highly recommend for fans of Emily Henry and anyone who enjoys stories about writers, love, and second chances.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This was such a fun, cozy read—like a warm cup of tea with just a hint of workplace chaos. I love easy romances, and if there’s a book about books (or, in this case, writers writing books), I’m immediately in.
Allie is a romance author teetering on the edge of burnout and low-key losing faith in love. Miles is a crime writer who hasn’t put out anything in years. Their editor (new publisher? Publishing overlord? I’m still not 100% clear) is steamrolling through staff like it’s their villain origin story, so Allie and Miles team up and genre-swap for fun and survival. He helps her rediscover the spark of love (thanks to his own long, happy marriage), and she feeds him twisty crime plots to get his creative mojo back.
Enter Will: a catering guy at a publishing event who is, frankly, dreamboat material. Their connection is instant but grounded—no instalove nonsense here—and he’s so wonderfully decent that you can’t help but root for him. Yes, there’s a touch of conflict (it is a romance, after all), but it’s small potatoes in the grand scheme of things and handled like emotionally competent adults (gasp).
If you like books about writers, quiet love stories, and characters who actually talk to each other, this one will go down easy.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for this honest review—more genre-swapping writer friends, please!

I loveeee a good romance author who has writers block trope. I eat it up. I also love when they seek help from another author who writes in a totally different genre than they do. This book was so cute, I absolutely adored it.

cute bookish themed book with a rom com writer who switches places with an old crime novelist to try and escape their writer’s block. It wasn’t my favorite and honestly I had to really focus to finish it so I think it’ll be a 3 star sadly! still a cool concept but it didn’t hit for me :(

I enjoyed this. I truly loved how the story was woven. It was relatable as well as inspiring.
Most writers face writer’s block at some point in their lives and it was so interesting and well done to see two vastly different authors face it at completely different ages and situations.
I also loved that issues within the publishing industry was highlighted.
The romance aspect was sweet as well.
Thank you to NetGalley, Eleanor Goymer, One More Chapter and HarperCollins UK for giving me an ARC of this book!
