This was a cute story. The plot really intrigued me, I was so happy to receive an early copy from netgalley. For me personally the pace was a little too slow and the romance wasn't really there, i would have enjoyed more of Wills character. The friendship between Allie and Martin was the star of the book

This book had a predictable plot and I found the story dragged in places. Since I went in expecting romance, I was definitely disappointed in the relationship between the main couple. The side characters were loveable and parts were cute and enjoyable.

I wanted to love The Plot Twist, but it felt like the book was juggling too many ideas without fully committing to any of them. The romance? Barely there. The characters? Flat. The pacing? All over the place.
If this hadn’t been an ARC, I probably would’ve DNF’d it at the 14% mark (which is the end of chapter one). I REALLY forced myself to finish this one
Still, there were glimmers of potential—especially in Allie and Martin’s friendship, which had some genuinely fun moments. With deeper character development and a more fleshed-out romantic arc, this could’ve been a winner. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me.
Overall Thoughts: Don't market it as a romance/rom-com, it's honestly more of an adult coming-of-age.
2/5 Stars--and that's me being nice.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I give this book 3.5 starts but on here I’ve rounded up to 4. This was a nice book to read I liked the friendship between Martin and Allie. I did also like the relationship between allie and will I just felt like the book brushed over things quite quickly and was a little rushed. Not a bad review or book at all I still enjoyed it and would recommend ☺️

This book is so short on romance that I don't even know if I would classify it as such. It's chock full of small obstacles and misunderstandings blown out of proportion for the sake of the narrative that it leaves little time to develop the relationship between Allie and Will. The relationship between Allie and Martin is more fleshed out.
Speaking of Allie and Martin, the twist involving the latter is so obvious that I figured it out 100 pages before Allie does, leading me to think that she's just dumb. Ditto with Will's "secret." Also, despite everyone including Martin's wife claiming that Allie is a great writer, she...does not seem so adept at it. But hey, convenient that someone who struggles with writer's block for most of the book is able to churn out not one but TWO complete novels in quick succession as apologies to people she's wronged (and again, the conflicts are not nearly as big of a deal as the characters make of them).
If you read romance novels for the love scenes, skip this one, as the lovebirds at the center of the story consummate their relationship off-screen. For a book whose main couple seldom interacts, it fits, actually.
Two stars is generous.

Romance meets mystery, a charming and witty novel about writer’s block, unexpected friendships, and the messiness of love.
The story follows romcom author Allie Edwards and crime novelist Martin Clark, two writers from vastly different worlds who find themselves equally stuck—facing looming deadlines and completely empty pages. Desperate for inspiration, they agree to a bold experiment: swapping genres and writing each other’s stories. What begins as a creative challenge soon turns into something deeper, as Allie and Martin develop a heartwarming mentor relationship, and Allie meets Will, a charismatic events caterer who might just be the missing piece in both her personal and professional life.

Was super excited for this book because the premise seemed so cute. However, while it was a fun read, the romance was barely there and the plot was very predictable imo. The FMC also just seemed super childish for a woman in her 30s (and I would know as a woman in her 30s)

Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for and ARC of this book.
The premise of this book sounded so good and, even do I did quite enjoy it, it felt a little slow at times. There were also time jumps between chapters that made it feel a little bit disconnected.
I loved how we got to see different types of relationships develop.
Her relationship with Martin, an older writer, was very sweet. I liked seeing how both helped each other with their books and how they ended up becoming such good friends.
And I really loved Will but I felt like we should have seen more of their relationship development.
Overall, I felt like this was less of a rom-com and more of a contemporary with a splash of romance.

First of all, thank you for the ARC NetGalley and the author of The Plot Twist in exchange for my honest review.
Okay, I really was looking forward to this book after I read the blurb and the cover that attracted me.
It was actually very hard for me to get through this book, it is a fun easy read if you like that but I was expecting more depth in the story and the characters. I didn’t feel a connection between the fmc and mmc there romance story and sometimes it was too fast paced.
It wasn’t my cup of tea but that doesn’t mean it can’t be yours if you like an easy read, no spicy at all, more friendship feeling than romance feeling than you can definitely like it.

This was so cute! I loved the premise and the general idea of the story! Overall I would recommend to anyone who loves a good romance

I really enjoyed this book.
The loved friendship between Allie and Martin.
I had my suspicions about Martin and Will.
The revelation scene had me giggling.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK: One More Chapter for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really loved the premise of this book, but felt that the execution was somewhat lacking. A younger author and a veteran author find themselves in a race to their publishing deadlines and both are plagued by writer’s block. There is also the added misogynistic publisher who threatens to can them if they don’t meet the deadline. The authors decide to help one another and they essentially mentor each other and trade/give content to each other for their respective books. The issue later arises that supposedly the FMC didn’t get the consent of the MMC to use portions of his story…that is the reason I’ve rated this lower. She did get his consent, and the way the story is told is that she was sneakily writing about his love story without him knowing. That’s simply not true. So for that reason, I didn’t feel like the conflict was very strong because she did get his permission and it made her look really insecure and silly like she was being deceptive when she wasn’t. 3/5!

This is a cute romance that focuses on the ethics and morals of taking inspiration for your art from the people around you, particularly in the publishing industry. I enjoyed how the central conflict was around Allie not disclosing information to those around her out of fear of losing her writing spark. It brought up the concept of 'using' people and I thought the ending worked well at resolving that.
Yes, it was predictable, but it was laid out as such because we needed to be in on the secret for the ethics debate to play out. I had a good time reading this book and that is what I'm looking for in the end.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

“The Plot Twist” by Eleanor Goymer is a rom-com.
I received an advance reader copy from HarperCollins UK via Netgalley. Opinions from this recent are completely my own.
Allie is a romance author that has issues writing her next book. She teams up with Martin, a thriller author with the same problem to help each other write a new book.
I liked the premise for this book, but overall I could not enjoy it as much as I wanted. The beginning had a slow pace, the transition from a chapter to the next is abrupt and the love story was underdeveloped.

Loved this one so much! Just the fun romance I needed. Perfect if you're looking for a feel-good book!

This was a fun, cosy and uplifting book. The father/daughter relationship between Martin and Allie was cute and well developed but I think the romance between will and allie needed more it was very bare and surface level. I did still enjoy and finish in one sitting but it could have been expanded on a lot more to draw you in.

This book was not for me, I could not find the female main character engaging or likable unfortunately

The Plot Twist by Eleanor Foymer
Allie is struggling to write her current novel, despite success with her previous romcoms. When she meets Martin Clark, a famous crime writer who is also struggling, they agree to swap plots and meet weekly. Fuelled by Martin's love story with wife Angie, and a fledgling romance with Will, Allie begins to write again. But things don't go to plan, to say the least!
I loved this book, especially the insights into the writer's life and the publishing world. I liked the characters and the humour, and although it was predictable I found it really compulsive! I don't read a lot of romantic fiction but I found this really enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

I knew from the first chapter of The Plot Twist that I was going to enjoy this book. Something just clicked and I thought "yes, this is exactly what I'm looking for." And oh boy, this book absolutely lived up to that expectation.
The plot twist is a fun, well-paced, uplifting story of the power of love, friendship, and believing in yourself. Bonus - the plot revolves around books, publishing, and writing... what more could you want?
This may be a controversial thing to say, but I always really enjoy romance novels where the romance is not the only aspect of the plot. The romance is important here, but there are so many other plot points that kept me captivated throughout. The platonic writing/mentor relationship between Allie and Martin was the star of the show for me. Their interactions were full of wit, advice, and humour. The plot line about the take down of a publishing industry professional was flawless as well. The sparks of slightly ridiculous humour reminded me of Sophie Kinsella (one of my all-time favourite authors). The romance itself was really sweet and wholesome as well.
Honestly, the only thing that didn't work for me in this book was Jess. I truly don't understand how Allie is friends with her. She just came across as very judgemental and mean, and I didn't like that Allie didn't seem to be capable of making a decision without running it by Jess first.
Overall, The Plot Twist is a sweet, humorous and uplifting story perfect for those who love to read books about books.

I recently read The Plot Twist by Eleanor Goymer, and it was an enjoyable experience. The story follows Allie Edwards, a romcom author, and Martin Clark, a bestselling crime novelist, who both find themselves struggling with writer's block. They decide to switch plots to help each other out, which leads to some unexpected romantic entanglements.
What I loved most about the book was its wit and the engaging characters. Allie and Martin's interactions were entertaining, and their quirky personalities added a lot of charm to the story. The idea of switching plots was a fun twist that kept me hooked. The romance that developed between Allie and Martin, as well as Allie's connection with events caterer Will, made for a delightful read.
However, I did find the plot a bit predictable at times, and I felt the story could have been shorter. Despite these minor issues, the book's light-hearted and uplifting tone made it an enjoyable read, perfect for fans of romance and comedy.
Overall, The Plot Twist is a fun and engaging book that offers a unique take on the writing process and the lives of authors. If you're looking for a feel-good romance with a touch of wit, this book is definitely worth a read.
