The Plot Twist is a light and entertaining rom-com.

Allie Edwards is a rom-com author who has writer’s block. When she meets bestselling crime novelist Martin Clark at a party, they find out that they both need help to write their overdue manuscripts and decide to team up. On the same night that Allie meets Martin, she also meets a cute waiter named Will, who inspires her to start writing again. As Allie’s relationship starts to grow with Will, she realizes that she has a lot of decisions to make.

I really enjoyed reading about Allie and Martin’s friendship. They truly trusted each other and were able to open up to one another in times of need. I also really liked how Allie and Martin were the main characters in their own separate love stories.

Allie and Will’s relationship was very sweet. However, I wanted them to have more moments together. I felt like their relationship didn’t get the attention it deserved because this novel also had a couple other story lines, which made these story lines feel a bit rushed.

Overall, this novel had a heartwarming story regarding writers who wanted the best for one another. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters, but I would have liked to have read more about each of their personal relationships - both with Martin and his wife as well as with Allie and Will.

I sadly just was never able to get into this book and the plot and character just weren't too engaging to me.

loved this romance about a writer trying to write another story and ends up with a mentor and finding love. Loved that she met the family and that she had a great friendship with editor and found love.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Plot Twist had such high hopes, but unfortunately, I couldn't finish the book.

The setup and plotline were very unique and charming. I loved the interactions between the lead character, Allie, and other characters in the story, such as Martin, Will, and Allie's best friend. I also appreciated the relatability of a writer experiencing writer's block and her journey alongside her mentor to overcome this obstacle through perseverance and his willingness to unravel his own love story with his wife.

For me, the book fell short due to its pacing. At times, I found myself willing the scenes to move on more quickly, but instead, we lingered on the lead character's reservations about whether she was following the right path or making the right decisions. Unfortunately, this issue was significant enough to stop me from finishing the book, though it did leave me wondering how the story concluded.

This book is perfect for someone more patient than I am and for those who absolutely love a unique romance story.

The best part of this whole book was the relationship between Allie and Martin. I just adored them but wanted to know more about Martin and his wife.

The rest of the book fell so flat for me. I was so excited based off of the summary of this book but the whole book disappointed me. I really struggled with Allie and her viewpoints on relationships. I couldn't connect with how she loathed her previous relationship, was all hot and bothered by Will instantly, but then roadblocked her whole relationship with Will. I agree with many other reviewers that I also did not like that she withheld information from Will. I also had a hard time with the fact that the only thing we know about Will is that he is defiantly not a waiter and she finds him really hot. With the lack of scenes between them, I am not even sure how they fell in love.
The book was just okay.

"The Plot Twist" by Eleanor Goymer is a light and entertaining romance, I read it in two sittings. Fans of contemporary romance will appreciate the witty banter between the characters. While the story is predictable and doesn’t delve deeply into character development, it was an overall enjoyable and fun reading experience.

Allie Edwards is a romance author who’s got writer’s block. When she meets best-selling author Martin Clark at a party they both realizing they’re each stuck with their books, and they decide to team up and help each other out. She not only gains a father figure , but she meets a cute cater waiter named Will. As her relationship with Will blossoms, the words begin to flow. But can she balance her career and her love life?

I had a really hard time connecting with Allie. She is the type of character who stands in her own way and refuses to take advice from well intentioned family and friends. It was frustrating watching her make decisions that to be honest just didn’t make sense. I didn’t understand why she needed to keep her relationship with Will at arm’s length rather than give herself an opportunity to explore something with a sweet guy. Despite being a woman in her 30s with a successful career, she behaved like a teenager a lot of the time. There’s also a situation that comes up that she keeps secret from Will and Martin, and I haven’t the faintest clue as to why. It makes no sense. I found her to be grating and hard to root for.

Will is underdeveloped, and we don’t really see many scenes between them. Because of this there isn’t much depth to their relationship. All we know of Will is that he’s hot and that he’s a waiter. We really don’t get to see who he is as a person; what his goals and motivations are. I also wasn’t too crazy about Allie using Will for inspiration, while admitting to not wanting to explore anything deeper with him. In fact, she purposely withholds information from him in order to have more time to write. It just felt gross.

I did enjoy her mentor/mentoree relationship with Martin. I thought it was really sweet and the banter between the two was fun. He and his wife are adorable, and it was really endearing to see the levels he would go to in order to make her happy. I also really loved her friend, Jess. We all need a friend like Jess. She tells it like it is and it always comes from a place of love. It was wonderful to see how much she was rooting for Allie, even though Allie took her for granted in my opinion.

While there were some things I liked about the book, the things I didn’t like overshadowed them.

Allie and Martin are both best-selling authors that have a bout of writer’s block. When they meet to discuss their writing and get past their creative blocks, they form a friendship.

As the story goes, Allie meets someone and ends up falling for him. She eventually has to choose between her career and the love that seems to write itself into her life.

This is a fast read and has all the elements needed for a cute romcom. There’s even a little bit of redemption written into the story.

Ok, like, this book was cute! It totally had me hooked with the whole writers-helping-each-other thing—it’s giving creativity goals. The banter between Allie and Martin? Loved it. So fun and quirky. And Will? Absolute cinnamon roll energy. 🥰

But, like, real talk? It did feel kinda predictable, and some parts dragged a bit. Allie made a few choices that had me like, “Girl, whyyyy?” Still, it had its sweet moments, and the vibes were totally cozy. Plus, the whole "swapping stories" concept was super fresh and fun.

It’s not perfect, but it’s def worth a read if you’re into feel-good romcoms with a bit of sass. Rounding up to 4 stars because, well, I’m feeling generous. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I’m usually a big fan of books based in the publishing world. This one fell a bit flat for me and I struggled to finish it. I found Allie to be more annoying than anything and found myself wanting to skip past all of her daydreaming. Some of her disassociation would go one for pages. The romance feels like an afterthought and there were times that the plot had gaps that left me more confused than anything. An example being Allie waking up in Wills bed in ch. 20. I thought I had missed a chapter and went back to try and see if I had accidentally skipped ahead. Thank you to NetGalley for the arc.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and One More Chapter, HarperCollins UK for allowing me to read an arc of The Plot Twist!

Allie, a bestselling romance novelist, is struggling with writer’s block in the midst of her own unfulfilling relationship and pressure from an evil publisher. She meets an older author named Martin who is similarly struggling (albeit with a different genre) and the two decide to help each other with ideas and inspiration. On the same night that she meets Martin, Allie also meets a cute caterer named Will, who sparks some romantic inspiration. There are several other side characters and subplots, some of which I really enjoyed, others which I felt slowed the pace of the story and could have been edited out in favor of stronger character and plot development in the main story.

***There are spoilers below!***

I love stories about the publishing world, and I thought the premise of The Plot Twist was very interesting. The writing partnership and dynamic between Allie and Martin was one of my favorite parts of the book. The way they decided to delve into genres they weren’t familiar with reminded me a bit of January and Gus’ agreement in “Beach Read” by Emily Henry. I was a little disappointed that Allie gave her story idea to Martin rather than trying something new herself, and then we didn’t hear much about its progression afterwards. However, I did like how her novels ultimately came together in the end, which wouldn’t have worked out if she had stuck with the crime plot.

There are really two love stories being told in this book. I went in expecting to read about the romance between Allie and Will, but I actually found myself much more captivated by Martin and Angie. All of my favorite moments involved the two of them. When Martin remembered the stories of each time Angie bought one of Allie’s books? Swoon. I LOVED that. I can easily believe that Allie went on to write a bestselling novel about their love and the two of them finding their way back to each other.

However, I desperately wanted more from Will and Allie. In Will’s case, literally more - for a romantic lead, I felt like we barely saw him. I thought he was extremely likable, but I wish we had gotten to know his character on a deeper level. I wish we had seen more of their romance and the way they fell for one another. As it was, I can gather that Allie liked Will because he was hot and she felt a spark, and… I’m really not sure why Will liked Allie. I found her behavior toward him confusing. I didn’t agree with most of her choices. Why did she want to keep him at arms length? Why didn’t she just tell him when she found out about his connection to Martin? Why didn’t she simply text him to explain after the miscommunication with Dominic?

As I mentioned earlier, there were many side characters with their own stories. I feel like a few of them could have been shortened in favor of giving more detail and depth to Will. For example, I personally could have done without Dominic. If the bit about him getting into the “uber” had just been an anecdote about a failed past relationship, I think that might have been enough. On the other hand, I loved Jess and Tom. I thought Jess was such a fun character, and enjoyed all of her scenes. I actually had to check to make sure that there wasn’t a previous book about the two of them, because I thought the story of how they met and fell in love after being introduced by Allie sounded like such a cute romance novel! I also enjoyed Verity and Tessa’s takedown of Jake.

Overall, this is a very cute story with a fun premise and colorful characters. I enjoyed spending time in this world, and would have liked to get to know some of the characters on an even deeper level.

This book fell a little flat for me. I couldn't find a rhythm for reading and following the story line. I was hopeful there would be more attention paid to Will in the beginning but the author just glossed over their interactions. I think it had potential but wasn't my favorite.

I'm very thankful for getting the arc of this book. It was a fun filled romance. Of course at some points it got a bit sad but everything got resolved at the end. I definitely enjoyed it. I loved all of the characters, the main ones more than the others. The only reasons its not a five star is 1. because at some points it felt a bit too silly 2. because some of the arguments in it felt like they were pointless. Thankfully that was pointed out ,but still at the moment it was a bit annoying. Overall i loved this book and i will for sure read any other book that Eleanor Goymer writes. I feel like one of them will be an absolute 5 star read for me.

This is a sweet, enjoyable read.

It’s a bit predictable but sometimes that’s exactly what you need - a bit of a lighthearted story, a big cup of a tea and a rainy afternoon. This is the perfect uplifting book for exactly that sort of afternoon.

I really liked Allie, she was relatable and I loved that her life was a bit messy and she could still find the positives. Will was a gorgeous book boyfriend and the friendship between Allie and Martin was heartwarming

A delightful read
