First off I love books about books and authors so I really enjoyed that element. Also I appreciate that it was closed door. I did however find my interest slipping it almost felt more literary fic than a romance. Never the less a cute well written story.

Thank you NetGalley and to the author for this arc!
I liked this! I liked the characters and the plot was fun and interesting! I loved the romcom author aspect and I thought that Will's job was new and fresh. I really loved like the first 60% of this book. It was such a fun plot idea and it grabbed my attention! The thought of swapping plots is so fun and kept me hooked.

I do feel like this fell flat in places, like the choices Allie was making. I felt like I wanted to know the characters and the story a little more. I feel like it could have been more emotional and it felt a little surface level.

I enjoyed the book and thought it was creative and the cover is SO CUTE!

I thought I would enjoy this, but I did not as much as I thought I would. I really love the cover art and it was one of the main reasons I requested this book but I did feel like the plot line was a bit predictable, without much for the story to fall back on (such as great chemistry in the characters, strong character development as a whole, etc.) I thought the pacing could have been better as well in some areas.

Like in the first book of Eleanor's I've read before, also this one has a great premise but falls incredibly flat.

Allie is like Rosie in The Fallback, she talks a lot, has no self-esteem and does nothing to get better. There little to no romance, no connection between the Allie and her love interest.

It was incredibly underwhelming.

Still, thank you NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review

I'm so disappointed because I really liked that book at first - I devoured the first 50% in one sitting and was just so in love with the story, the characters, the story-telling, the publishing world!
But aftet that 50% mark, it felt flat, and I didn't understand any of the decisions that Allie the FMC was taking. Was she a woman in her 30s or a teenage girl? I guess we'll never know.
The writing was good, in the exception that a few ellipses which didn't make sense at all made me lose all interest in the story.
There is no smut, if it's of interest to you. That's actually a good point for me because I don't believe that adding an open door scene would have been of any interest to that specific story.
I really liked Martin and Angie, but their story was underdevelopped in my opinion. Which is actually the case for a lot of ploints in this book: the author speaks about feminism, Me Too, the publishing industry, second chance romance.. All of these very different topics are spread thin in that 300+ pages book, and none of the topics are properly covered. And that as a bit disappointing.

HOWEVER! I really liked the romance - it was not much, it was not exceptional, but it was CUTE AF. Would love to read more about the MMC alone actually.

The Plot Twist by Eleanor Goymer didn't meet my expectations. I struggled to engage with the story, as the writing style wasn't to my taste.

I really liked the character in this story. There was something about them that made me want to know more. But, honestly, I felt like I needed a deeper connection to fully get invested. It wasn’t that the character was bad – I just wished there was more emotional depth to make me care a little more.

That being said, the concept of the story was pretty great. The idea of swapping plots was a cool twist and honestly kept things interesting throughout. It was something I haven’t seen much of before, and it made the whole experience feel fresh. Overall, I enjoyed the story, but I think with just a little more connection to the characters, it could’ve been even better.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc

I love romance but unfortunately, this one fell flat for me. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and the story.

I am considering trying this book again in the future to see if i enjoy it better.

This was kinda a bleh read. It wasn't amazing but it wasn't terrible. It moved slowly for me and more so felt like fiction than a romance.

I enjoyed reading The Plot Twist by Eleanor Goymer. You will fall in love with all the characters. I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely. Happy Reading!

Eleanor Goymer’s The Plot Twist is a light, entertaining read about two struggling authors whose collaboration takes an unexpected turn. The twist itself might not shock, but the chemistry and charm make up for it.

DNF - I found it incredibly difficult to get into this book. The writing style was not for me, it was written in third-person, and there were so many run on sentences that I had to re-read things to make sure I still understood what was going on. It jumped around a lot with scenes ending abruptly.

I did enjoy the friendship between Allie and Martin, I thought they had a great dynamic.

Overall, I am disappointed that I DNF’d this book since I was so intrigued by the synopsis and the cover. I think it all just fell short for me.

love love LOVE this one! the dynamic between these two felt reminiscent of beach read - this would be a perfect book for fans of emily henry! i love a romance storyline between writers but especially when one is a romance writer and one is not, it’s such a fun dynamic and this book did not disappoint!

Oh I just fell in love with these two!

Allie has published several novels that have become best sellers, realising her current relationship isn’t inspiring anything romantic anymore she’s given up on happy ever afters and whilst doing so has come up with a case of writers block. When she meets Martin, a grumpy crime writer after an awful meeting at the publishers they strike up a deal to help each other out.

Will is a caterer at an authors release party, when he meets a woman dissing the food he’s serving he can’t help but smile. She’s feisty and funny and makes the event that much more interesting.

In between the writers block, catering gigs and a possible romance there’s a work scandal, secrets, lies and much more.

I will be honest here and say Allie irritated me a few times throughout the book with the way she self sabotages over and over again but what’s a good book without mixed feelings about the characters.

As always, no spoilers from me but this story completely hooked me. I couldn’t put the book down and devoured it in a day, I love when that happens.

I loved how each character had their own personality and how well they all worked together. Their growth and love, everything was spot on.

I’m a big fan of this book, it’s the first I’ve read from this author but most definitely won’t be the last. I enjoyed the writing style and how well it flowed.

The Plot Twist is a cute, fun and easy read. It’s a book about finding what makes you happy, about finding love in the most unexpected places and at the most unexpected times and about love and all the things that can go wrong. It’s beautiful, sad at times but an all around fun one to read.

I really liked the concept of this story, but the intro dragged, and the romance didn’t really kick off until halfway through.

Allie, a successful romance writer, is stuck in a major slump with a looming deadline. She teams up with Martin, a former crime-writing star from the ’90s who’s also battling writer’s block. Their unlikely partnership was sweet—honestly, Martin’s fatherly bond with Allie felt more central than her actual romance with Will, a caterer she meets at an event. Their interactions were limited, and Allie’s self-sabotage made it hard to fully invest in their relationship.

There were a lot of subplots—writer’s block, romance, Martin’s marriage, and even an editor takedown—which left some aspects feeling a bit underdeveloped. While I liked how everything tied together, I just wanted more focus on the romance itself.

A big thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Sorry, I'm not the target audience for this book. The opening didn't draw me in—I prefer something more fast-paced. I also really dislike books that open with characters in bad relationships. I read romance to experience characters falling in love, not falling out of it. DNF.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.

I found this book really hard to get into. I loved the idea of two struggling authors getting together and exchanging ideas and thoughts to help each other but I feel it missed the mark slightly?
I was also left wondering what the plot twist was to be honest as it was fairly obvious from quite early on what was happening?
There were almost ok many things going on and not enough focus on one part of the story of background for me, I also felt the romance was a little lacking and unbelievable unfortunately.

3.5* Thanks ne and p for an early copy of this book for my opinion. To be honest, it took me a few chapters for me to get into my stride with this one, but it did pick up. I thought the blurb on the book sounded promising and it is a cute light hearted read, but not 100% my cup of tea.

I really wish I would have enjoyed this book more because the actual plot sounded so interesting! There was so so much potential, but unfortunately, the book failed to capture my attention, really from the start.

Right away, I was a little confused because I felt like there were so many characters being introduced that it t was a little challenging to keep up.

The book was labeled as a romance book, but I felt like there was little to almost no romance at all and when there WAS romance, the author zipped right past it. For example, I thought the first kiss scene was completely rushed!! They kiss and then the chapter ends and she's back with her friend? I would have enjoyed furthering that scene and adding more romance because it was so confusing, truly I thought I was perhaps missing pages. Another confusing scene is when Will finds out that Allie is Martin's "writer friend", and immediately after it happens the author cuts to a scene where Allie talks to her friend (okay... I guess??), and then immediately cuts to Chapter 20 and Allie is in his bed?? Truly so so confusing, that it almost felt frustrating to read. Halfway through the book, I was thinking that Allie was going to end up with Martin solely because of how much time they spent together. This was ironic given that in Chapter 10, Verity had to be convinced that Allie and Martin were not dating.

I'm giving it two stars because as I said before, I think the plot is there and is really unique. However, I think that the actual plot execution is where the author felt short.

Lastly, I understand if the author wanted her book to not have such a strong romantic focal point (I am led to believe this because truly there was no romance) but then I think it should NOT be advertised as a romance.

⤿ 💌 4.5 stars!
I've been reading so many romance books where the main character is an author and I AM ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT. I've never considered myself a talented writer, honestly not even a good one. But, I love being able to get inside an author's head during books like these. I loved the platonic and unique relationship we got between Allie and Martin, usually the other writing mentor/partner is the other love interest but it was fun to see a platonic friendship between two writers who just shared a love for a common craft.

Hearing about Martin's family struggles as well as his love for his wife and their own love story was so cute and heartwarming (I think Martin may be my favorite character 🥺)

The romance was fun as well! But it didn't take over the over arching plot line of her writing her comeback novel and her struggles with the publishing industry. I recommend this if you want a love letter to writing that explores thingsdeeper than just the romance!

Thank you so much to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
