The Silver-Haired Sisterhood is a group of five older women who call themselves the Hens. Divorcee Tess decides to
take a trip to the Isle of Skye to view the Northern Lights. Della, recently widowed, takes the trip with her.
With the recent separation of the inn's owners, the place is not fully operational. Tess and Della offer to help the owner Roddy get the place up and running for expected guests. Their vacation turns into a rescue mission, with help from fellow Hen Rosie and eventually, help from Jen and Pam. Interesting characters, life changes and new opportunities.

What a delightful book for those of us who are nearing the age of ‘silver sisterhood,’ or for the younger
generation who may not yet know how much fun life is supposed to be and how valuable good friends
are in life. This is set in beautiful foreign lands (for most of us) and we go on adventures, we eat unusual
delicacies, and we spend time with some interesting folks. It’s an adventure that sadly ends, but I am
happy for how my new friendships are set for the future. This is a long running series and I cannot wait
to catch the rest of the adventures! My thanks to Boldwood Books via NetGalley, for the download
copy of this book for review purposes.
Before I write anything...I love Judy Leigh's books. This is one I could definitely relate to. At the age of 82 (and recently widowed) I understand the feeling of these women as they get older. Yet, their resilience, their friendship with each other and how they move on in their lives (and old age) was something that I too have endured. The "hens" as they call each other made me wish I too could get together with them. Alas, I doubt I would move to England, however, the thought of a single cruise sounds wonderful, if (and that's a big if) I gather up my nerve to do so. My thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun read that reminded me of my grandmother. Reading this book will remind everyone to just simply enjoy life! Very sweet story and loved the writing style.
I couldn’t wait to get stuck into Judy’s latest release and what a joy to be back with the hens as some dart off to the Isle of Skye on an adventure. There’s sadness in the loss of a fun character early in, but it sets the trend for ’if not now then when’? We join the hens for Tess’s 77th. I like how Judy skilfully filled in gaps from the last time we met the hens.
Tess, Della, Rose, Pam and Jen are a delight to be around as a reader. Daz is there too and we meet Murdo, Roddy, and a great amount of new people. Skye seems like a wonderful place to explore. Given that Judy’s a vegan I am in awe at her incredible non vegan palette when she writes about food. A wonderful feel good, there’s no age limit to grabbing life by the balls for experiences, friendships and more. A wonderful, easy to follow read, even people in their 70s have lives that fill you will hope and wonder. I hope when I hit my later years, I am still bouncing with life. I would love a follow up to this.
The Silver-haired Sisterhood by Judy Leigh is the story of a group of five older ladies who call themselves the Hens. Divorcee Tess and newly widowed Della book a trip to the Isle of Skye which turns out to be nothing like the quiet vacation they’d envisioned…and that even was before the other three Hens arrived. Ms. Leigh has written an often humorous story about the importance of friendships, the strength of women, and how they support each other. This “older than dirt” reviewer certainly could identify with the emotions Ms. Leigh’s characters experienced. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Highly recommend.
A fun read especially if you are a member of the baby boomer generation. It’s nice to have a reminder that purpose, love and challenge last throughout life and that nothing is more valuable than enduring friendships.
This author can do no wrong and always goes to the top of my to read pile! I was whisked away to the magical Highlands in this uplifting, joyous and funny tale of friendships and new beginnings. This is the perfect feel-good story and leave you feeling all cosy inside.
It’s good to read a book about older characters & I really enjoyed this one.
Loved the story.
Five stars from me!
This was such a cute story, and I loved reading it. This group of older women, love to celebrate life, and they’re now on one of their friends hen-dos. This book was a feel good story that made you think about life, and that we should be celebrating life. This book was a quick read and I enjoyed it.
