I loved learning so much about the history of different witches. Visually this graphic novel was stunning.

I loved to read this book... It has everything a beginner witch needs or If you like this topic it will be fantastic for you.. It's not my personal read but I really loved it.

A beautiful story with even more beautiful illustrations. I love all Lindsay's books and this is no exception, a lovely and enjoyable way to learn about witchcraft history ❤️🌿

Such a great book! I loved this so much. The information and storytelling was done so well and the art was absolutely amazing!

Part story, part information book, all illustrated with beauty and whimsy. I read this in one sitting, though I know I'll be back to explore the information in more detail soon. An excellent and inclusive summary of witchcraft and a gorgeous tribute to Biddy Early.

A lovely graphic novel that explored witchcraft with fabulous illustrations. An enjoyable way to learn about witchcraft.i really liked it.

A visually stunning and informative graphic novel about the history of witchcraft: the stunning illustrations and cover draw the reader in and transport them back in time.

The art style is really pleasant. It is a nice easy to digest brief history of the topic. It skims over events by no means a deep dive. If you are looking for more details it will give you places to start your research. Definitely got me contemplating some things.

I found "Witchcraft: A Graphic History" by Lindsay Squire to be an interesting dive into the history of witchcraft. This is not an area I have any familiarity with, so I can’t speak to the accuracy of the history or the attention to cultural/spiritual norms.
The artwork was beautiful and helped create a super easy to follow and enjoyable read. The author did a great job of breaking down the history of witchcraft while also waving the history around the context of a more personable character driven narrative. I have always loved this approach to storytelling and teaching history. Even though many concepts are covered, the book never feels rushed or too dense. The pacing was well done.
One of my favourite things about the book is how it challenges stereotypes about witches. Squire explains how a lot of the fear and persecution of witches was driven by cultural and political stuff, not actual witchcraft. The book does a good job of making these big ideas easy to relate to.
If there’s one minor thing, it's that some of the sections felt a bit rushed, especially when talking about major events like the witch trials. A little more time spent on these moments could've added extra depth. But overall, "Witchcraft: A Graphic History" is a fun, accessible, and enlightening read. It’s perfect for anyone curious about the history of witchcraft or just looking for a visually engaging way to learn something new.

4.5 stars
It is such an intriguing and very informative graphic novel about witchcraft, magic and how especially Biddy Early has shaped a lot of what witchcraft is understood as — something which could be considered its own form of science if you work with nature in a balanced way, if you only take what you need without greed. It is beautifully illustrated. I seriously like it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this arc! <3
we start of with a bit of real history of Bridget Ellen Early/Biddy who this book is based on. I love the way the author blended history and fiction, it’s Biddy’s real life but dramatized and with the addition of a friendship between her and the apprentice. The artwork feels like it’s from your childhood favorite book, it’s beautiful, simple and with an oldtimey feel.
I enjoyed that the story was broken up with little pictures & info about historic people or explanations of different things related to the story.
Super cool graphic novel, will definitely be keeping an eye on the authors future releases🥰

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. It’s the first graphic novel I’ve read. I enjoy reading about witchcraft so this book was perfect for me.
In the book you learn about Biddy Early, one of the most influential witches in history. I wasn’t aware of Biddy so I found her story really interesting. The book includes the history of early witchcraft and the witch trials.
I loved the illustrations, they’re beautiful. The front cover is very eye catching too. The artwork made it a joy to read.
I found this a nice cosy read. Perfect for this season. I learnt things I didn’t know about the history of the witch trials, it’s an informative read for anyone interested in witchcraft. I rate this 3.5 stars as graphic novels aren’t usually my go to but I still enjoyed this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for this eARC read.

Wow, I did not expect this gorgeous guide to Witchcraft in this book.
I am still trying to process what art this is. From the genuine actual art throughout the book, to the messages, to the spells provided. It is very clear the author is incredibly knowledgeable on the topic, and I gained more information than I could have ever hoped to.
This is an important book. It includes historical facts and the truth behind the practice of Witchcraft.
This altered my brain chemistry. I have been searching for something like this. I have chills. This is just so beautifully done. Wow.

I’m not sure what I was expecting but this wasn’t it. It was such a strange mix of made up nonsense and slightly accurate witchcraft facts… as a practitioner I found bits of it insulting and as a reader of graphic novels I just found it weird. Not an enjoyable experience across the board.

Witchcraft: A Graphic History explores the true story of Biddy Early, a 19th-century Irish traditional herbalist later accused of witchcraft.
I was intrigued by Biddy's story, and the illustrations brought the tale to life beautifully. However, I wish the story dove deeper into Biddy's life, particularly her trial. From further research, she seemed like an extraordinary figure for her time, but this did not feel fully explored.

firstly, thank you to the publisher for an arc!
“witch hunt: where evil men want to convict good women”….
this was an absolutely gorgeous and informational graphic novel on biddy early (one of the most important witches in history) and different aspects of witchcraft (difference types of witches and their specializations, tools, familiars, and more)
witchcraft: a graphic history is a fantastic package of beautiful art, thoughtful retelling of history, and insight for those interested in a more spiritual way of life

Wonderful! The drawings are gorgeously whimsical, and draw the eyes to every detail. I found really enjoyable how the history of witchcraft was told through the apprenticeship of Lindsay, with side information about the context, historical facts, and the specific vocabulary of the craft.
Read it from cover to cover!

I don't know how to rate this. I got an arc for this, but it was a weird snippet of the book and not the full book. And, well, I don't want to mess up my NetGalley percentage so here I am writing a review for like, a chapter and a half.

This is probably the most beautiful graphic novel I have ever read. It is beautifully written and illustrated with a beautiful message. I have already put it in my shopping basket. It is a story about Biddy Early, a witch in Ireland. It features some historical facts and fun facts about witchcraft. Given the content, might be more suitable for teenagers.

This is such a beautiful history. Witchcraft has always fascinated me and when I saw this graphic novel on Netgalley I knew I needed to read it. Every page is beautifully illustrated and has a mixture of fictional story and facts about witches that existed in times past.
Biddy Early was a healer and she was ostracized in her community for being a witch. However, many in her community benefited from her tinctures and medicines that were effective in improving their health. Nature is quite healing and Biddy knew what herbs and plants to put together to give healing benefits for different ailments.
It’s sad though that instead of embracing someone who only ever acted with the best of intentions and genuinely helped others, they persecuted her.
While Biddy’s relationship with a young pupil is fictionalized, it still was a beautiful story and helped with the teaching aspect of what witchcraft was and the tools, people, and types were. In this day and age Biddy would be considered an herbologist. Someone who knows and studies the healing effects of herbs and plants and knows what each plant is useful for what ailment.
Often times the biggest part of persecution is not understanding or being willing to try to understand new ideas. These days there’s more opportunities to research and understand the things that are new to us. People like Biddy are no longer persecuted.
It is so important as human beings to be open to others who are different from us. We cannot expect others to believe the same as we do and act the same as we act. When we embrace the differences that make everyone unique we enjoy a brighter more beautiful world.
When we persecute and judge others are world becomes a darker and scarier place. My hope is that acceptance and peace between people will be more and more the norm, but I know that is long off if it ever comes to pass.
Stories like this remind us to be curious and to appreciate one another as we are. It was beautiful beginning to end.
