This is a detailed and well throughout book covering a huge array of beads and loaves you can make with your bread maker. I'm sure I'm not alone having a rarely used bread machine in the top cupboard and this has encouraged me to get it out and have another go. The book is well put together and includes interesting history which adds to the enjoyment. Only annoying thing was that as an American book, not everything is easily available in UK - potato flakes seemed to be a main ingredient for a few interesting ones and that's not something we can get. A great read for an American baker.
The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook includes recipes for every bread you have ever heard of and many more than you haven’t even imagined. It includes recipes for quick non-yeast bread, sourdough bread, holiday bread, pizza dough, and even jams that can all be made in your bread machine. Best of all, for me, it contains a chapter on gluten free breads too.
The comprehensive introduction is a must read for new bread machine owners. It explains the different cycles and what actually happens with the machine during its time processing your ingredients. I especially appreciated the section about what to do when something doesn’t go as expected.
If you are serious about becoming a bread machine master, The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook needs to be nearby. It is a comprehensive how-to guide filled with over 300 different recipes. I would have preferred some photos and nutritional information, which dropped my review by a star. Otherwise, this cookbook makes the perfect gift for the bread machine baker in your life. 4 stars
Thanks to NetGalley and Harvard Common Press for providing me with an advanced review copy.
The Bread Lover’s Bread Machine Cookbook was a really good cookbook. It had tons of great recipes. Some of the recipes were ones you would expect and some were unique. There were also recipes like bagels and rolls, which I liked. The recipes were easy to follow and used easy to find ingredients. It was well organized and visually appealing. It would have been nice to have some photographs of finished recipes. Otherwise, this was a great book that would be great for beginning bread makers and experts alike.
I am pretty impressed by this book! I have another bread machine cookbook that I do love but this one is a great addition to it. The beginning of the book has a lot of really helpful information for anyone using a bread machine, that would be helpful for someone new to the machine or who has been using it already for some time. There are so many recipes in here & tons of variety. I am pretty sure that anyone could open this book and find plenty or recipes to get excited about making! There are so many different bread recipes and they are arranged in a way that makes sense to me as well. I love that she included a section for jams, preserves and chutneys in the bread machine as well! I would have never thought to use it to make those. This is a great book for anyone with a bread machine and would make a wonderful gift as well!
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook, Newly Expanded and Updated by Beth Hensperger is a cookbook and guide to bread machines that goes beyond bread.
This book came at the right time for me as I’ve been debating getting a bread machine and even have a model picked out, but haven’t bitten the bullet. It’s an investment and I was a bit nervous. Because this book opens up with so many details on different machines, the different things you can make, ingredients, and what to pay attention to as you learn more about your individual machine, I’m feeling a lot less nervous about getting a machine. The page with conversions is also very useful.
For recipes, there is sourdough, chocolate breads, fruit breads, traditional wheat and white breads, yogurt, accompaniments for breads, and croutons. If I get a machine, I’m looking forward to trying out the beer and cheese bread as well as some of the chocolate breads. I love a dessert bread made into French toast for important holidays and there are few meals that can’t be improved from a good cheese bread. The accompaniments also have my attention, especially the yogurts since the recipes look so accessible.
I would recommend this to readers with bread machines looking to see all of the things their machine can do
This is a great addition for someone who has a bread making machine. Such a huge range of recipes with something for everyone.
This is an accessible breadmaking book about making bread using a large bread machine.
I took away tips about breadmaking in general, but will implement the specifics for using the machine as well. This book is so rich, it has many recipes for different occassions.
This book was exactly what I needed to take my bread making to the next level. A bread machine makes short work of making bread, but this book lets you use creativity and the "art" of bread making. I loved this book, and I know I'll be using it a lot this fall!
Thank you to Quarto Publishing and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This cookbook beautifully captures the essence of bread-making as both a skill and an art form. It’s not just about mixing flour and water; it’s about creating something special with (mostly) your own hands. From wholesome whole wheat loaves to festive holiday breads, this book offers an extensive range of recipes that cater to every taste and occasion.
What I love most about this book is its accessibility. The author breaks down the bread-making process into manageable steps, making it approachable for beginners and rewarding for seasoned bakers. The instructions are clear and concise, with helpful tips that demystify the process. You’ll quickly learn how to transform simple ingredients into delicious loaves with just the push of a button if you’re using a bread machine or by following straightforward techniques if you prefer the traditional method.
The recipe selection is impressive, featuring everything from rustic loaves to more elaborate style breads. Recipes are paired with mouthwatering photographs that not only inspire but also provide visual guidance, so you know exactly what to aim for. I particularly enjoyed trying out the seasonal recipes, which add a delightful twist to traditional breads, making them perfect for gatherings and celebrations.
The book also emphasizes the joy of experimenting with flavors and ingredients. It encourages you to get creative, whether it’s adding herbs, seeds, or even dried fruits to elevate your breads. This freedom to explore makes the baking process even more enjoyable and personal, as you can create loaves that suit your family’s preferences and dietary needs.
Overall, this cookbook is a must-have for anyone interested in bread-making, regardless of skill level. It celebrates the art of baking, transforming it into an accessible and enjoyable activity. With this book in hand, you'll find that creating delicious, homemade bread is not only achievable but also a rewarding experience that brings the warmth of the kitchen into your home.
This is a great recipe book for bread machines. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a beginner book, so know that, however it does have a lot of cool ideas.
I have a secondhand bread machine, and once the weather gets cold, I’m always thinking about it. The fruit bread section is probably where I’ll spend the most time. The tea bread too. There’s also a section about jam, for machines with a cycle for this.
Each recipe has about 10 ingredients, give or take. It also lists them for both 1 and 2 pounds, so that you don't have to do the conversions, depending upon your machine type.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my advanced digital copy!
This is a fantastic resource for people who want to maximize their bread makers. It's great for new users and old. I loved the variety of the recipes, too. It opened my eyes to all the things a bread machine can do.
So many great tips in the book which is also filled with a great variety of bread recipes. Easy to follow and it caters to all individuals with a wide variety of dietary requirements.
This is a very dense, information packed book. As a beginner it was very overwhelming to read, and it was easy to feel lost.
The recipes do look very good, but 99% of them are written for 1.5 and 2lb machines. My machine is a 1lb one. Yes, I know I can do the math on the 2lb recipes, but for a lot of them the measurements won't evenly divide. There were only a very small handful of 1lb recipes in the entire book.
I think this would be an excellent book if you have a larger bread machine than I do. I plan on giving a few of the recipes a try once the weather gets cooler.
