Richard Collins knew he had only a short time to live, and it was vital to inform his three sons. But beyond the news of his impending death, he needed them to grasp the significance of his will and how it would continue to shape their lives, even after his passing.
Gathering in the house by the lake, Richard anticipated the disclosure of his final wishes to be a solemn affair. However, he couldn't predict the tumultuous reactions each son would have to his revelation.
In this painfully revealing novel about a family accustomed to deferring to one man's authority, the last moments with Richard and the unveiling of his will unleash unexpected turmoil and grief. Grace, his wife, and each of his three sons must grapple with the terms of their legacy. Their responses not only expose their individual characters but also lay bare the complex and strained dynamic that has long kept this troubled family on edge.
Loved it. Will recommend to others
This one wasn’t really for me. I liked the premise and thought the execution was overall good, but I need something more likable in my characters, and I didn’t think the dialogue was very realistic
This book is one that I had a love hate relationship with. I loved the characters, especially that of Grace. She seemed like the sort of woman that many of us can relate to… the one who goes along with thing’s because it’s what her husband wants and she doesn’t want to rock the boat. And Richard seemed like the typical man who wanted everything his way, others be damded.
The story line on the whole was okay but I didn’t like the ending. It felt unfinished and I wasn’t a fan of that.
What a miserable story this proved to be. There was very little positive about the whole book including the characters. I suppose the ending had a little to lift it but overall I’m sorry this one was not for me.
This is a sad book about a bitter father. He makes his will leaving his sons little and wants them to know.. His wife cares for him as he is dying. There is no family love going on here or so it seems. Just unhappiness. The irony at the end is believable…Thanks Netgalley.
Very short unforgettable story, I didn't like the characters ,particularly the parents. I will not be recommending it.
This book was just okay. the writing was a little bit weak, the characters were pretty crappy, and it was hard to finish this book. It had a ton of sibling rivalry and family drama, it felt like a whining competition to me. Not for me, it lacked a lot
Thank you to NetGalley, to the author, and to the publisher for this complementary ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!
