I had heard a bit about this manga and was excited to get to read it, but was unfortunately disappointed with the final product. It was honestly quite boring. Nothing happens in the entire book, and it's repetitive. There's no story at all. Meh, not a fan.
This seas a sweet slice of life manga about two girls dating. I enjoyed that the series starts with them both already dating, and also appreciated seeing the way they got their (very adorably awkward) start. The art was lovely, and I can imagine several readers already who would be interested at our library. I hope the further issues have a bit more forward momentum, and maybe show the Nanoha and Chidori actually getting to spend some time just the two of them!
Adorable slice of life yuri manga. The artwork is good, there's no real overarching plot to critique, and all of the stories are very sweet and made me smile. I would like to see something a bit more cohesive come out of future volumes, but for this volume I think it worked very well. I look forward to more from this series and I immediately was ready to read the next volume when I finished this one.
This. Was. So. Cute.
I love sapphic stories; they bring me so much joy and warmth. I'm so glad I was able to receive an ARC of this manga.
The art was very well done. The story was super cute. At first, I wasn't sure if it would progress at all (it reminds me a bit of I Think Our Son is Gay with each chapter beginning and ending with the same words (we're best friends and girlfriends) but there is some story progression. I know that this manga has already finished so I'm glad we finally get an English translation.
Which brings me to why I gave this four stars and not five. The translation was somewhat lacking. Granted, this is an ARC so not everything was finalized but parts of the translation were off, as in some sentences felt weird to read or didn't flow off the tongue very well or were just plain wrong. I hope that a re-look at some of the translations were done before they publish it. However, that didn't detract from my overall love of the story and I definitely plan on collecting this story as it's published.
A charming low-stakes, low/no-spice yuri title about a pair of high school girls in a relationship together who keep it secret after their friends tease another girl/girl couple. It's very cute, but lacks the punch or social critique of other titles. Very cozy and anodyne, a very particular kind of pleasant comfort reading that doesn't stand out much from the rest of high school GL manga pack.
I thought this book was really cute and represented the awkwardness and innocence of high school relationships really well. I didn't like the fact that every chapter reminded the reader that the two main characters were secretly dating. There was some really sweet moments between the two girls, and in future volumes I hope they have more scenes with just the two of them and not always with their group of friends, I am looking forward to reading future volumes and seeing how their relationship progresses as they become more comfortable around each other!
Thanks for the ARC!
Best friends Nanoha and Chidori are dating! This opposites attract romance follows two young women that navigate keeping their relationship a secret from the rest of their friend group. The ever outgoing Nanoha is ecstatic about her new relationship, while the shy yet confident Chidori is equally happy. They just run into problems, flirting in secret and attempting to get to know each other without making it obvious to the rest of the group. An interesting first volume as we learn more about the young couple and their feelings towards one another.
Nanoha and Chidori are best friends. They’re also dating.
Rainbows After Storms is a brand-new manga launching alongside other Viz books this month. Written and illustrated by Luka Kobachi, the manga follows a pair of schoolgirls intent on keeping their relatively new relationship private. This is difficult for several reasons. For one, they’re part of a close-knit group of five. For another, the sweet and outgoing Nanoha will do just about anything to get the aloof Chidori to admit her feelings out loud.
At least in this first volume, Rainbows After Storms is a relatively laid-back slice-of-life series. The biggest stakes in this volume come when one of the girls accidentally sends her “I love you” to the group chat. Things could change in later volumes, of course. For now, though, it’s a sweet, low-commitment, wholesome rom-com. Emphasis on the rainbows rather than the storms.
There was not much of an overarching plot to follow, the main characters are dating but it's a secret, a fact that is stated in almost every chapter. The story is episodic, showing snapshots of the characters but providing no further depth to the story or the characters themselves.
This was cute, but felt a bit disjointed. I didn’t really get the chance to connect with the characters as every chapter just felt like they didn’t really know each other. I am glad to see a WLW manga though! Definitely hope to see more of them
Rainbows After Storms's slice of life yuri makes for light reading, which is a good thing. If you're looking for something deep, dramatic, and/or angsty, this isn't it. The relationship IS a secret, so there is still potential for things to get heavy later on.
This was some nice GL! Nice art? Check. Best friends to lovers? Check. Nice couple dynamic? Check! I think what set it apart for me is the fact that the two girls are already established as being a couple, but still very new to actually being in a romantic relationship with each other. It made for a refreshing aspect. Them not wanting to tell their classmates of the relationship upgrade quite yet is an understandable secret for the moment. It's a little more of the same, but it has enough going for it that it stands out, too!
This super sweet high school romance is witty with great characters and storyboarding. The secret romance causes different issues within school and the friendship group and it's super readable. I only wish that the reader wasn't reminded that the girls are best friends but secretly dating every two minutes. We know this!
This was good yuri manga. It wasn’t exceptional, but i still enjoyed it. The main issue I had with it was that quite literally every 2 seconds you were reminded that the main characters are best friends and are secretly dating. after the first chapter we get it. you don’t need to constantly remind us. there were some cute scenes, but they weren’t unique or crazy heartwarming. i wish we watched them fall in love instead of them starting off already dating.
This is a really cute manga. I really enjoyed how cute and wholesome this was. Sometimes Yuri manga can be a bit to overly sexual but this was so sweet. I loved the friendship elements and the cute parts.
This book was super, super cute and lovely. Them having a secret relationship leads to many hijinks and silly romantic moments. Thank you to netgalley for providing a free earc.
I think this can be a cute story but the repetition of "we're dating but keeping it a secret from everyone" was honestly super annoying. I'll give this a few volunes though to see if it improves.
