In this life-affirming title, Dr Zeleznikow-Johnston explores the ways to extend human life and save humans from death.
What stands out is the author’s genuine passion for extending life, why he wishes this becomes possible and his humane interest in opening up the conversations around death.
The author, albeit being a scientist first, engages the readers with good storytelling. A scientific work, by definition, must be clear, yet the pathos is optional, and Zeleznikow-Johnston gives a good narrative here.
I do not believe in the foresaking of facts for attracting masses. The Future Loves You offers us what is possible and what can be possible via a convincing argument and the reminder that more can be achieved with the right discussions. Death can indeed bring meaning to life; the being aware that there is an expiry date to life, however, who wants to die before their time? Who wants to lose their loved ones too early?
I am glad this was not another preachy and pseudo-science book. The blurb and the author’s expertise in neuroscience made me pick up this book - not the question of “how can we live longer?”. I found the author’s discussions of the life spans of different species and some medical breakthroughs to be very useful.
Thank you for the eARC.
