A comic that starts out as if it is a generic learning-to-count volume, but soon brings on the number 4, and therefore the ultraviolence. For number 4 is a monster with acid blood, and a great appetite for the other critters in this world – who fail to fathom how it could possibly have a sex life. It is a humorous effort, done as well as you could expect, but is it something to last on the shelf, and be re-read? Probably not. And why can't it decide if the numbers can or cannot leave – one says it can't escape the page, but others succeed in leaving the slaughter. Four stars might be deserved, if accompanied by the caveat that this is a disposable affair, albeit successful in achieving its aims.
I think that this is supposed to be comedy-horror but I would say that unfortunately it fell a bit flat on both of these counts. I really enjoyed Dirge’s “Lenore” which blends these genres seamlessly, but this just feels like a way less effective repeat of Lenore to me.
I couldn't focus enough on this to fully read it due to the large watermark in the center of every single page. It made some of the text hard to read. So I'm giving it a 3 stars until I can properly read and review it.
Oddly enough, this book made me really sad. It made me recall the days of "Happy Tree Friends", which also featured adorable little creatures getting eviscerated in horrific ways.
I started reading this and thought, I wonder why this isn't for kids? And then almost immediately found out. The best description I've seen was "utter chaos" but "adorable" fits too. What's going to happen next? This is definitely a book that needs to be read more than once for maximum enjoyment.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
This was absolute chaos and I loved it. I appreciate the explicit message in the beginning that this book is NOT for children. It's a bloodbath, but was hilarious.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
Is it weird to consider this book adorable? Because this book was gruesome yet awe worthy.
The warning is correct, not for children, but very satisfying for adults
This was such a fun and ridiculous read.
It actually had me laughing out loud
Loved the artwork and would definitely read more of this authors work!
Thanks to Titan Books and NetGalley for providing me with this arc
This book was absolutely hilarious and so messed up - a must-read for any fans of Roman Dirge, the Lenore books, or similar works.
Well that was an experience. This reminded me of some of the art from the man that created Invader Zim. Similar kind of humor as well. Very much not made for children but fun for adults.
This was absolutely ridiculous and fucked up and gross but it somehow made me laugh and I’m not sure what that says about me 😂🙈
I'll start with how the book started... THIS IS NOT A KID'S BOOK! Oh my gosh, wow... so disturbing, but so funny. 10 little creatures think they are going to give a lesson in counting and things go terribly, terribly wrong. This was such an unexpected laugh, but might not be for everyone. You should know within the first few pages which category you land in.
Thanks to Titan Books and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
4 stars
Thank you to TItan and NetGalley for my review copy.
This was quite an absurd book, full of twisted humour and gory drawings and I did enjoy reading it and seeing where it went next as I could never quite guess where it was going to go.
It's absolutely the sort of book that is perfect for someone who found "Happy Tree Friends" funny.
It's absolutely not a kid's book at all.
I loved this profane little story! This was just my type of humor, and no, the description of this book is no lie. It's over the top and ridiculous, definitely not for kids, and you will learn nothing about how to count to ten.
Roman Dirge is my new favorite comic writer now.
Deliciously wicked & devilishly funny! I still can't count but I'm laughing!
A perfect hook for the creator's work!
I have absolutely no idea how to review this book. It was the most unhinged random thing I’ve ever read. Which, to be fair is what I think the author was going for. It was a fast and interesting read but overall it just wasn’t for me.
