What a fantastic read. Loved this one even more than the first one! This is the second book in the series. Both following the same mother daughter relationship theme.
Grace was recently released from a psychiatric facility, and is determined to reconnect with her estranged daughter, Cordelia. Grace decides to watch her daughter from a distance, and she becomes increasingly concerned about Cordelia’s controlling boyfriend, Garth. Next thing you know, Garth disappears. Cordellia ends up being the main suspect in Garth disappearance, but Grace knows this is not like her daughter and will protect her at all costs.
What I love about Nicole Tropes books is that you always think you have them figured out, but then the end hits and it’s never what you thought!
Quick thriller read. I was immediately engaged in the story and wanted to know how it would all unfold.
This is book #2 in a series. I read it as a standalone book but I actually think it would maybe have worked better if I had read book #1. The story fell a bit flat for me and I think that might be because I was missing the connections from the previous story.
Overall, if you like thrillers and especially if you like series then this book is worth a read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed the sequel in the Grace Morton series! I thought 'A Mother Always Knows' was a lot more fast-paced than the first in the series and I honestly did not expect the twist!
Thank you, NetGalley, Nicole Trope, and Bookouture, for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!!
A Mother Always Knows is book two in the authors' Grace Morton series & kicks straight off where book one finished.
While it can be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading Not A Good Enough Mother first to fully appreciate the story and background of Grace's life that led her to this point.
This was another fast paced gripping story that I got stuck into straight away and ended up flying through, I really enjoy this author's style of writing, it flows so nicely with the characters and their actions brought to life perfectly. I loved seeing Grace once again seamlessly settle into an 'undercover' assistant role in order to watch & protect someone, in this case, her estranged daughter Cordelia. Grace is a force to be reckoned with, she has some quite questionable actions but I just loved her, she's the ultimate fierce protector but slightly unstable, you honestly don't know what she might do next & you have to love her f*ck it attitude.
There was plenty of suspense, surprises and twists in this read & I have to say I really wasn't expecting the final twist and I loved how much it caught me off guard.
This is the perfect read for fans of psychological/ domestic thrillers and if you're looking for a fast-paced suspense filled read.
I really enjoyed this book and highly suggest reading the first. This picks up right where the first ended and I would love to see more Grace Morton books! Grace has many secrets and has an estranged relationship with her daughter. When her daughter becomes the prime suspect in her fiance's disappearance, Grace is elated to have her daughter reach out to her after years of limited contact.
I loved reading "A Mother Always Knows". It was the perfect continuation of "Not a Good Enough Mother". It kept me intrigued and wanting to keep reading about Grace, her daughter Cordelia, and Cordelia's boyfriend Garth.
3.5 stars!
I will start my review by letting you know, this will be a much better read for you if you have already read Not A Good Enough Mother (book 1). I was waiting for a plot twist from some characters mentioned at the beginning of the book, not realizing that these were characters that had their moment of fame in book 1.
This was a super easy book to get into, it had my attention from the beginning and was fast paced. It kept me guessing but as I got towards the end, the twist just fell flat for me. It wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be, it was a little boring and disappointing! However, I would still encourage readers to give this one a chance! I will likely go back and read book 1 because I did enjoy her writing, and I thought Grace and Cordelia were very entertaining characters. A protective mama bear and a grudge-holding daughter tend to make quite the combo!
Thank you NetGally and Bookouture for the invitation to read this e-ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!
Panic over! Just for a minute I thought I hadn't read the first book, then I realised it was no longer called The Assistant and had been rebranded as Not a Good Enough Mother, I'd toured with it back in the summer.
Boy was it worth the wait! Grace is back and it's time for mother and daughter to reunite and take to the helm.
Trope has nailed it again and draws us in with a fast paced, twisty and thoroughly entertaining read.
Secrets, lies and redemption await the discerning reader.
Melbourne
Cordelia, 24, and Garth, 33, have been together for over 4 years. Once again, he has texted saying he is working late again. She knows he is working hard to become a partner in a law firm, but his late nights are growing. Cordelia works for a graphic arts firm. Garth has always criticized her friends.
Cordelia’s mother, Grace, is an alcoholic. When she learned that her husband was having an affair, she became drunk and forgot that she had left candles burning when she fell asleep. This resulted in the house burning down from which she escaped but her husband died in the fire. She spent some years in a mental institution.
Cordelia wants nothing to do with her mother who had a very successful business that she sold and Cordelia will come into a very healthy trust fund soon.
When Grant goes missing, Cordelia is frantic and cannot figure out what happened to him. The police think that Cordelia had something to do with his disappearance. When Grace contacts her, Cordelia is hesitant to let her back into her life but needing her help with Grant’s disappearance, she relents. Grace is ready and willing to help her. What they uncover is quite shocking.
This was an interesting story that kept me guessing who could be the bad person.
Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Nicole has done it again.
another great thriller that had me hooked from the beginning. Glad i read the book 1 because book 2 was amazing.
I have a dark side and reading about Grace satisfies that dark side because Grace has the tenacity and temerity to accomplish what few people have the wherewithal to.
Karma is a b**ch and so is Grace when crossed.
I thought Cordelia was insipid and quite useless. When the chips were down she cried for her mommy who naturalk6 swoops in right everything. That only enables Cordelia but that’s her problem.
I loved how Grace exacted revenge on a person who had done her wrong years ago.
What comes around goes around.
The world doesn’t play fair and neither does Grace.
A Mother Always Knows Nicole Trope is the 2nd book in the Grace Morton series and was a book once i started to read it I could not put it down! WoW this book was excellent and better than the first book I had read. You may need tissues when reading A Mother always knows as it is beautifully written from start to finish
One thing I love about this author, she writes beautifully from start to finish and from her heart. Nicole engages with so many great subjects you can feel you are apart of every book she has written and I am a great fan of all her books.
I highly recommend this book.
Big Thank you to NetGalley and especially Bookouture for my ARC.
I am a little late with this review. I have been in a terrible slump and wanted to do this the justice it deserves. I requested this not reading the description, but simply because I saw the author's name. I have loved all of her books to date and jumped right into this one.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is a sequel to "Not A Good Enough Mother." We follow Grace into the next steps and mission in her life, making sure her estranged daughter is safe and doing well after seeing troubling comments on social media from her daughter's significant other.
This was yet another excellent read from this author. The pacing is on point, and the story is addictive with its highly likable Grace Morton, the momma bear that will protect her children at all costs. This conveyed such emotion through its pages. The sadness, grief, loss, and the feeling of being deceived by someone you thought you knew. Nicole Trope is a powerhouse of a writer and deserves all the recognition she gets and then some. This, as well as all her previous work, was hard to put down, unpredictable, and emotional. Four solid stars from me.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
Power games and mind games make this thriller devilishly devious. As is this author's signature, this clever story ticked with suspense and intrigue, while my disdain for the characters dripped from every page.
Grace (Mom) knows that her daughter (Cordelia) is in stifling relationship with her boyfriend, Garth. She vows to rescue her by any means necessary. The only problem is that Grace is not welcome in her daughter's life. If you read "Not A Good Enough Mother", you will get the full story. However, Nicole Trope does a bang up job of catching you up on this storyline, even if you have not read it.
Prepare for a marathon because you will devour this book in on sitting. The ending of this book gives new meaning to the word twisty.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
How far will a mother go to protect her daughter? How far is too far? Grace pulls out all the stops when it comes to protecting her daughter, Cordelia. Even though her daughter won’t speak to her Grace can’t stand by and watch her daughter in danger. When Cordelia’s boyfriend, Garth, goes missing and her daughter is accused of murder, Grace must act to protect her again.
The writing is sharp and the pacing is perfect. The characters are complex and have great development throughout the story. This is a gripping edge-of-your-seat and hold on tight thrill ride that grabs you on the first page and doesn’t let go until the end. Thank you to Bookouture for providing this copy via NetGalley for my honest voluntary review. #amotheralwaysknows #netgalley
Like the first in the series, it was a solid psychological thriller with twists and turns. The protagonist in this series is Grace. The first novel was focused on Ava, who did not know that Grace is her mother. This one is centered on daughter Cordelia and their difficult relationship. When Cordelia was young, Grace fell into alcoholism when her husband (Cordelia's father) cheated on her and then the house burned down with him in it. Although the Court found her not guilty, Grace was sent to a psychiatric facility. Cordelia always blamed Grace. Cordelia has a relationship with Garth and Grace is worried that Garth is not being good to Cordelia. Garth then disappears and the novel follows that with several twists and turns.
I may have liked the first one better; I am not sure. But they are close. It is hard to say, since I read them both close together. What this author does well is character development. We get to know both Grace and Cordelia. I suspect that this is better than the suspense, which is there but is more expected in this kind of novel.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this advance copy in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
A Mother Always Knows is book 2 in the Grace Morton series. I really liked this book! There was a lot of twists and turns and it was really hard to put down! It kept me guessing until the end! The first book Not a Good Enough Mother( The Assistant) was really good too! I strongly suggest reading this series!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
I liked this ‘fluff’ read. Its fast paced chapters, with character identified POV, read quickly. It’s book #2 of Grace Morton, but easily reads as a standalone. The intrigue pulls you through- leaving you with a take away of knowing not to mess with a Momma Bear!
Thank You to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Nicole Trope for the invitation and opportunity to read this ARC.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for gifting me a digital ARC of second book in the Grace Morton series by Nicole Trope. All opinions expressed in this review are my own – 4 stars!
Grace is determined to reconnect with her estranged daughter, Cordelia, so she moved to Melbourne. Grace also doesn’t trust what she knows of Cordelia’s boyfriend, Garth, so she gets a temporary assignment to work at his law firm. But right away, Grace sees that someone else is following Cordelia and then Garth goes missing. Has history repeated itself?
You could read this book as a stand-alone because Trope gives you enough backstory, but it’s much better read as a series. Grace is such an intriguing character, donning different personalities and looks, doing whatever she needs to do for her child. Cordelia never resolved the trauma of losing her father and doesn’t want anything to do with Grace, until she realizes that Grace is the only one who understands. This is a twisty thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end!
This taut thriller provides a compelling, headlong read. Although it may not contain as many surprises as the author hoped, it will have most readers engaged till the last word.
This book is labelled as the second Grace Morton book, but it’s very readable even if you haven’t read the first. There’s enough information contained in this novel that you feel you know the essentials from the past.
Grace Morton has just been released from a criminal psychiatric facility, and the thing she wants most in the world is to reconnect with her daughter Cordelia. But since Cordelia doesn’t want to see her, she’s limited to gazing at her daughter’s Instagram pictures of her and her partner Garth.
And Grace doesn’t like what she sees. She isn’t at all sure that Garth is good for Cordelia. She needs to find a way to meet him, and see if her instincts are correct.
Meanwhile, Cordelia is having doubts of her own about the relationship…
Trope has written this in a style that makes for a fast read: there’s not too much time for contemplating the plot as incident after incident piles on. I found it the right mix of credible and slightly out there which makes for a good psychological thriller. This was despite seeing a couple of the plot twists coming a mile away (as I think many readers would). However, others took me off guard.
It's a very readable style, and a relatively short novel. It’s just about right for the plot – not too drawn out – and it feels like a lot happens.
Characters were strong, and it was easy to believe their behaviour and thought processes. Cordelia in particular is likely to garner considerable reader empathy and understanding.
Although not a spectacularly original plot, this is extremely well done. It’s well constructed, populated with realistic characters behaving in a (mostly) believable way, and well paced. Readers who enjoy psychological thrillers will enjoy this.
