Great ending to the series. I was not sure what to expect from the ending of this book, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The book picks up where aon or Noa is still lording it over everyone and Lydia is left to make a decision as to if she'll love him herself or be forced to by the ancients.
There's a few twists and turns in the book which you don't see coming and I won't spoil them suffice to say that just when you think it's over it's actually not. We lose some beloved characters along the way but also gain some by the end. Is it a happy ending for all? Well you'd just need to read it and find out. Now I'm off to find some more books by this author.
Fantastic finale of a wonderful series! Great world building, plot, and well-developed characters. This was a beautifully written novel.
Soundtrack: Clannad (Journey’s End, Theme from Harry’s Game)
I’m quite picky when it comes to romantasy, as I want my romantic fantasy to be a well-balanced mix of fantasy and romance, not just an endless list of spicy scenes that usually bore me to tears (sex is usually a matter of 1-2-3-fireworks in those scenes).
This was a pleasant and entertaining surprise—a wild ride with elements and tropes taken from dark fantasy, a sense of urgency in the passion, and a well-plotted story that kept me turning pages. I appreciated the plot twists and liked the epilogue. I was wondering if there will be more stories set in this complex universe, as Lydia, Aon, and the other characters are fleshed out, flawed, and in the grey area of the moral spectrum.
It’s a series you have to read in order to appreciate the complexity of the world-building and the evolution of the characters. Go, read it, and have fun.
Many thanks to Second Sky Books for this ARC. All opinions are mine.
I wanted to dip my toe into romantasy and decided to start with the ARC for book 4 KING OF BLOOD. I was not disappointed. Kingsley created a vivid world with amazing characters. The storyline was interesting and entertaining. I loved this so much I decided to go and buy books 1-3 and book 5 so I could read the ARC for book 6. Now I'm hooked not only on Kingsley but romantasy! Book 6 continued in the fascinating world and I cannot wait for book 7. Thank you for sharing the ARC!
I was fully invested in this series from the very first book and the author did not disappoint. The world building and plot and character development was amazing and I couldn’t get enough of it.
We go through so many emotional twists and turns and it kept me on the edge of my seat while also had my internally yelling at all of the characters.
Overall a series that is going to continue to live in my mind for years to come. Well done.
Oh, I loved reading these books! I've really enjoyed getting to know these characters and this world! It's dark, twisted, depraved, and oh, so complicated with morals, and figuring out the best path forward-especially when up against such a powerful, almost all-knowing threat like the Ancients?
Lydia has been through a lot since she's been brought to Under, a lot she's had to adjust to, and almost all of it bad. That another attempt is made on her life, and that it falls into place with the prophecy? Yeah, I was thinking that Aon went the wrong way with his interpretation, but yeah, that was wildly off!
I wasn't sure how they were going to resolve this fight with the Ancients, there's such a big threat. And there's Aon, craz and broken, without the bits of the Ancients to piece him together. On the other is the King of All, sane but maybe that's not a good thing. It was just a complex situation, and I didn't envy Lydia for having to navigate it.
One thing that I'm wondering, is if the other series set in this world, the Fall of Under, if it's going to be revised as well? I don't know if it's set before or after this series, but it was published after this one, so maybe the story is where Kathryn Ann Kingsley wants it to be. I don't know, but I can find that information out!
Loved reading these books, and I can't wait to read more by Kathryn Ann Kingsley!
Again and again, Kathryn stays WINNING. A perfect book, chefs kiss.
Would read the entire series again and again
This was such a strong sixth entry in the Masks of Under series, I enjoyed getting into this book and was everything that I was looking for. The characters continued to feel like they were supposed to and enjoyed the overall feel of them. It was a strong dark fantasy romance going through this and left me wanting more in this series.
Thank you Second Sky/NetGalley for this ARC❤️
Guys I almost cried!!! What a great ending to a wonderful series. I’m formally requesting 80 more books that are just about Lydia & Aon day-to-day, tysm
The ending actually made me emotional - wonderful!
I cannot believe the series is over so soon. I am very happy with how everything turned out and of course sad for the people lost along the way.
This is an amazing conclusion to the series. I continue to really love Lydia as our FMC. I like the larger cast of characters and the shifting of POV. I could not put this book down. I was literally taking any minute I could to finish reading and it was worth it. I’m very happy.
4.5/5 stars
