I just finished The Shadow Spinner (Book One of the Dome Series) by Eric Kao, and it’s a thrilling ride! The world-building is unique, with a fascinating magic system and intense gladiatorial fights. N’Halia, the main character, is so easy to root for as she navigates her power and her quest for revenge. Her journey is full of action, emotional stakes, and even a bit of humor I wasn’t expecting.

The chemistry between N'Halia and Talla adds another layer of depth to the story, especially as she grapples with her feelings while on this dangerous path. There is a great deal of conflict between fate, love, and the price of retaliation. I'm eager to see where the series will go in the future! I was captivated by this novel and am eager to read more.. Highly recommend if you’re into gritty action and complex characters!

Personally this book did not click with me the way I wished it did. Though there were some humorous points I found myself unattatched to the characters and the plot. I found myself getting confused and unable to fully visualize what was happening during the story which left me rereading. This is all not to say that it was not a good book. I can certainly see how this would appeal to people looking for a fast paced, action packed and slightly humorous fantasy novel to dig into.

Solid start to the series. This was easy to read with plenty of action and humour. I wasn’t expecting to laugh as much as I did. This was a unique world and magic system that I thoroughly enjoyed. N’Halia was a great character to follow and I loved the interactions between her and the others. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

This was a strong start to the Dome series, it had that element that I wanted and enjoyed the overall feel that I was looking for. The characters were everything that I wanted and enjoyed the overall concept that I wanted. It left me wanting to read more in this series and glad I read this. Eric Kao wrote this perfectly and can’t wait for more.
