The plot was good however frustrating. all characters were unlikable and it just didnโt grip me, I did struggle to finish it.
However there were good parts of the book that kept me interested but it mostly just wasnโt for me
When I Disappear by Amanda McKinney is an intense read that made me seriously not want to put it down. I read it in one evening because I was so hooked. It is SO well written and the characters are great. I did however guess the ending and the who dunnit which is pretty rare with the twists and turns that are in novels. None of that took away from how much I enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it. Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this advanced copy.

The premise of this thriller was intriguing: Sylvia awakens to a letter on her doorstep suggesting the man who was convicted of killing her mother two decades prior, Rhett Cohen, is innocent. She is rattled by the first one, and they continue, each one revealing details only the killer would know.
Just as Rhett is released from prison, the fourth letter arrives with a chilling message and a personal item of her mother's that still had her blood on it. Because the letters made her doubt her testimony all those years ago, Sylvia is convinced that Rhett was wrongly convicted, and the two begin working together to try and find the real killer. Then Sylvia disappears.
All eyes are on Rhett, and so many people are wondering if a convicted killer was freed from prison only to kill again. The truth is going to come out about what really happened to Sylvia AND her mother. Although I was able to untangle the mystery before the book's conclusion, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this early copy. At the time this review was written, this title was expected to publish on January 24, 2025.
Wow, I couldnโt put this book down, wrote so well. The story line is fantastic and the guessing who did it changes so much.
100% recommend.
Loved the ending
This book totally surprised me!! I couldnโt put the pieces together until the very end. Iโve found my new Frieda McFadden!!
Thank you to Storm Publishing via NetGalley for the advanced readers copy of this book!
I loved that this book was fast paced and a quick read. The chapters were short, which I love. I did not feel that is was very thrilling, as the premise of this book was supposed to be about Syliva's disappearance, which lasted all of a chapter or two.
The book started out really strong, and I blew through the first half of it, barely putting it down. The second half really started to lag and I felt that there were story lines that could have made this book more twisty, but instead they were "fill in the plot" story lines that could have been done without. The ending felt a bit rushed.
Overall, I enjoyed the book!!
Rhett just got out of prison 20 years later for the murder of an elderly lady, Marjorie. He says he is innocent and was wrongly accused. And he is determined to find out who set him up.
Sylvia is Marjorieโs daughter and starts receiving anonymous threatening letters along with her motherโs necklace.
Once released , Rhett finds Sylvia to start getting answers on who really killed Marjorie.
Fast paced, twisty and addictive! A psychological thriller I highly recommend!
A twisty mystery book that will make you question every character!
Rhett was just released from jail following a wrongful conviction from 20 years earlier when another crisis occurs. Now he has to team up with the daughter of the victim he was wrongfully accused of murdering.
This book was a quick read! I really enjoyed the character of Rhett. It was interesting to read his struggles when he was released from prison and had to start life over. His friendship with Jesse was very heartwarming. At times the book was a little long, and the ending was a little predictable, but overall it was a good read.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick read that enjoys a mystery!
Thank you Storm Publish for providing me with an ARC of this book.
A unique and intriguing mystery thriller. The characters really drove this story. I figured things out before they were revealed but still enjoyed reading because of the characters.
Hmm, good looking guy accused & sentenced for murdering your Mother, so why are you running around town with him? His looks, his built body, or is he innocent? An unusual story of murder, hatred, greed, and total self destruction. Interesting. Thank you #Netgalley #StormPublishing #WhenIDisappear

Thankyou Netgalley for this ARC.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I did pick the twist early on, but it still had me hooked with how the author unravelled the story.
Sylvia Stone's mother was killed 20 years ago. Since then Sylvia's life has taken a turn for the worst. She has lost her job and is almost through her inheritance. She is also a loner, without family or friends. Now the man who was convicted for het mothers murder, Rhet is up for parole.
Than someone is leaving anonymous letters on her doorstep with times that are related to her mothers murder.
After Rhett Cohen has been released from prison Sylvia gets one ultimate anonymous letter: Your Next. Rhett has always kept to his statement that he was innocent and didn't kill Marjorie. Even Sylvia doubts that Rhett killed her mother, even though it was in part her statement that led to his conviction. Sylvia and Rhett even start working together to find out โwho framed himโ and sent him to prison. Was Rhett framed? Who is the real murderer?
Even though I had a pretty good idea halfway through the book who had murdered Sylvia's mum, and turned out to be correct, this is a nail-biting thriller that makes you want to keep reading. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller.
Thank you Netgalley for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

๐MY REVIEW:
Whew, what a riveting and fast-paced thriller this was! When I Disappear kept me turning its pages as quickly as I could until I reached the end of this wildly unhinged small-town mystery.
This book featured chapters alternating between three viewpoints: Sylvia, whose mother was tragically murdered twenty years ago; Marjorie, Sylvia's mother; and Rhett, the man convicted of murdering Marjorie. While the majority of the book happens during present time, there were some chapters that flashed back to the past and created a deeper context for the reader. The shifts in the timelines were easy to follow while the story was laid out brilliantly by the author. Chapters were short and this was a really fast read for me.
The main characters of the book were richly developed, and the supporting characters added a lot to the mystery of this read. It seemed everybody was a little bit unhinged and unpredictable, which really kept me on the edge of my seat. There were a lot of shady people in this town, and their plotlines in these pages added to the book's intrigue. I predicted the twist in this one pretty early on, which is the only reason I didn't rate it a full five stars. Even that didn't take away from the fun intrigue and the wild mystery ride this book took me on, though.
Fans of unhinged characters, short chapters, dual timelines, and fast-paced suspense are going to really love this read! My friends at Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse absolutely love this author and have been excited about this book for a while, so I was looking forward to this one -- and it did not disappoint! A big thank you to Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse, NetGalley, Storm Publishing, and the author herself for the invitation to be a part of this book tour and the gifted advanced e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Sylvia starts to receive threatening letters years after her motherโs murder. This raises questions about the case and leads to the release of the man, Rhett, who was convicted of the crime. In an attempt to find out who the real killer is, Rhett and Sylvia team up and become entangled in a whole local scandal while unveiling some dark secrets. The book alternates between the perspectives of Sylvia, her mother and Rhett. It is a very quick and easy read because itโs twisty and written in an informal, relatable tone. Think Freida McFaddenโs tone with Gillian Flynn vibes. ๐ฌI was confused about a few of the plot points: the detectiveโs chiefโs brother or whatever, the traveling photographer, the rest of the people in the cave, and Jesseโs age. I think maybe too many other details or characters were thrown in there that were unnecessary. I am definitely interested in checking out more from this author though. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this title.
This book started very promisingly, with interesting characters and a good plot. However, about two thirds through the tone changed and my interest waned. The conclusion of the book was a bit rushed and the ending didn't fit in my opinion. Disappointing.
I adore Amanda's writing and have binged all her books . I found the start of this one to be a bit much with the multiple POV and characters , I quickly realized I was going to love this book. I loved the pace of the book and the shocks and twists were second to none. This was a 4* for me.
This was a fast paced thriller with an interesting build up. Personally I was able to guess the twists and the plot early on so I wouldโve enjoyed it more if some things had been less โobviousโ and if the main character had been explored a bit more. Nonetheless I enjoyed this book and feel grateful I had the opportunity to have an early read.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC of When I Disappear by Amanda McKinney. This is the first book I have read by this author and I thought it was a good fast paced thriller. Sylviaโs mother was killed 20 yers ago and the Rhett, who was convicted of killing her, is about to get out on probation. Sylvia is getting letters threatening that she is โnextโ. Could it be from her motherโs killer? Did Rhett really kill her mother? There are a lot of questions to be answered and the truth will shock you. 3.5 stars
This was a fast-paced thriller with short chapters that kept me hooked and eager to see what would happen next. I enjoyed the twists, although some were a bit predictable. For much of the book, I thought it was shaping up to be a 5-star read, but unfortunately, the ending didnโt quite deliver. It felt a little rushed, which was disappointing. Overall, itโs still a quick and enjoyable read, but I was hoping for more from the ending.
This book had a great plot with intriguing characters. Iโll definitely be looking out for more from this author.
