"You don't see me staring at that cul-de-sac you call a hairline"
Temz is a size 26 full sized queen, a plantfluencer, and making big woman moves in her career. However, her romantic endeavours - unlike her plants - seem to be a little dehydrated. When a tech entrepreneur from America finds himself in her DM's, Temz does the unthinkable and presents herself as someone else... Will she confess before it's too late?
I'm surprised that I didn't end up with RSI with the amount of times Temz had me shaking my head at her foolish behaviour in this book. Bruh?!
What I did like:
• The writing style was engaging & did make me want to find out how this would pan out for Temz (icl I wasn't hopeful).
• The exploration of friendship - Jean really held Temz down like a real one should. I loved that he didn't sugar coat ish for her to keep her happy. She really needed to be told about herself. The frenemy was written very well.
• How negative body image can lead to the unhealed making some really questionable choices in our dating habits.
Other than that, this book wasn't for me. Even with it being laced in humour which I liked, it wasn't enough to detract me from the delulu of Temz. I'm not sure if a character has ever given me the ick before, but Temz come and collect your trophy babygirl. I knew there was no coming back from her after one of her choices in sexual partners. It was at that moment the book went downhill for me.
Initially I was intrigued by the idea of catfishing, but the length of time this carried on for...
I also didn't like the portrayal of many of the characters in this book. They felt very exaggerated & stereotypical.
I'd recommend this book for those who loved Queenie & Curvy Girl Summer.

Artemis is a lead at a marketing agency as well as having a "Plantfluencer" side hustle on Instagram. She's proudly plus-sized and confident to call people out in public for their fatphobia and/or racism. But when perfect man Ruben pops in her Insta DMs she has a moment of panic and shares photos of not herself, but a thinner and lighter-skinned old school friend. Of course she's then in a web of lies and we're waiting for things to fall apart. I didn't love the theme about lying, though it's a common one; I did like that at the (of course) happy ending, Temz is a stone heavier and a lot happier and that she sees a therapist; I also loved her "traditional" mum dealing out corrections after returning to Ghana and her hilarious flatmate with her unintentional, so of course worse, racist micro-aggressions.
Review will come out 4 April on my blog https://librofulltime.wordpress.com

Sadly a DNF for me. I think this will be a hit with other readers but I realised early on that the writing style and the character personalities didn't work for me personally. I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own

This book really lived up to the title. Artemis was chaos was walking which was at times very frustrating to read but Yeboah managed to ground her enough that you were rooting for her to find her way. I really enjoyed the friendship between Artemis and Jean - they had some real laugh out loud moments. The slow burn of the romance between her and Rueben was so well done and I really wanted them to find their way to back each other once all the dust had settled. The character arc of Artemis was a fascinating one and one that kept me hooked from start to finish.

What a wonderful read!
I absolutely enjoyed "Chaotic Energy" and couldn't help but fall in love with our protagonist Artemis and her energetic and chaotic take on life.
A great story about societal pressure and character growth.

This is such a beautiful, funny and wonderful book!
Artemis is such a really fun protagonist. There's something so fun about a woman - a black woman at that - just being so chaotic (hence the title) but also so real. She's funny, she knows what she wants (actually she doesn't but so real).
I really just enjoyed reading this book and I cannot wait for the book's release.

This was a wonderful story and I loved Artemis. Watching her growth and resilient was wonderful. The writing is wonderful as well!

I loved the main character of Artemis. A beautiful, successful, fat, black woman. Yes, she gets distracted by a man. But, ultimately she is the star of this book. I wasn't interested in whether or not she got with the guy. I just wanted to know she was OK, that she worked things out for herself.
It's a story about catfishing. But, it's more about society and how people treat Artemis making her feel that she's not good enough (despite being amazing).
I really felt like she was a real person and I wonder how much is based on the authors own life. I also felt like the locations were very true to life.
