The Witch of Salt and Storm by Kendall Kulper is book 1 in the Salt and Storm series. It is a young adult historical fantasy about Avery Roe, a young witch who foresees her own murder. She must team up with Tane, a harpoon boy who may be able to save her life. The Witch of Salt and Storm has an interesting take on witch mythology. Avery is a sea witch whom traditionally have some control over oceans and seas. Kendall Kulper chose an interesting subject and set it in an interesting era. I thought I would really enjoy this but like so many young adult books that came before and after The Witch of Salt and Storm the romance takes over everything else. I didn't hate the romance, the relationship between Avery and Tain is sweet but I wasn't drawn in by in. This is mainly because I didn't like Avery that much. She could be annoying and hard to relate too. It is a shame because Kendall Kulper is capable of some beautiful writing. I have a feeling that this book will be loved by many of its readers but sadly it was not loved by me.

Salt & Storm is a wholly original and unpredictable story. It's a breath of fresh air. The themes are still similar to most books, but the plot was unique and wonderful, and the way that the themes were addressed and brought forward was different from the norm. The execution was wonderful; the writing was lovely

Since receiving this book my interests have changed. Also time constraints means that I'm limited to the amount of books I can read. I won't be able to give this title the attention that it needs and deserves. Therefore I will no longer be reading or reviewing this title. Thank you.
