The Essential...Taylor Swift was such a great book on the one and only Ms. Swift! I really liked the way the author put this story together and appreciated all the details in a manner that made sense! Thank you to NetGalley for an advance review copy of this title in exchange for my honest review.
Fabulous guide to Taylor Swift. I really enjoyed how the book was split into the different eras and the pictures were a great addition. A must have for any Swiftie!!
This book presents information about Taylor Swift in a fun and engaging way. A must-have for swifties!
The Essential... Taylor Swift is a complete, cohesive biography with great photos of Taylor Swift. It starts at the beginning of Swift's career with some background information on her family as well. It goes all the way to the Era's Tour and also includes the Tortured Poets Department. I enjoyed reading this book and I think it's great for new Swifties. For Swifties who have been around longer, I don't think it will add much. But it can be a great introduction for parents and friends of Swifties.
My first NetGalley book! As the title suggests, this is an overview of Taylor’s career, chronologically by albums/eras (stopping just after the announcement of TTPD). However I can’t quite put my finger on who the target audience is for this book because, as a Swiftie, I’m not sure it was me. There wasn’t too much I didn’t already know, and it glossed over so much (due to it being an “essential” overview rather than a deep dive) that I felt I was being critical whilst reading it about what was included and how things were described (for instance, I thought it was an oversight that the surprise song phenomena of the Eras Tour wasn’t even mentioned). But then if it was supposed to be for the average Joe, I felt there were a few Swiftie specific things that felt shoehorned in (ie. a mention of an album release date where the numbers added up to 13 without explaining why that was relevant). Great selection of photos throughout though, and of course always fun to read about Taylor.
I have been a Taylor Swift fan for almost two decades, so not a lot of this book was new information. However, it’s still fascinating and well done! I loved the concise history of her rise to THE superstar that the world knows and the little snippets of little known facts. This is a great book for new and old Taylor Swift fans!
I wouldn’t really consider myself a Swiftie, but my daughter loves her so I thought this would be a fun opportunity to learn more about her background and career. This book delivers exactly that. I feel like it was a great introduction for someone like me who doesn’t necessarily already know much about her background or beyond surface the level of her music and maybe a few well known Easter eggs. The book was full of wonderful spreads, captivating images, and interesting tidbits.
I appreciate the opportunity to read this book early in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley, and thank you to the author, Caroline Young, and the publishing house, Gemini Books Group, for making it available.
The Essential…Taylor Swift was a great biography. It really delves into who she is and where she came from. The book was packed with information.
I really liked the addition of the pictures throughout the book. It’s not a particularly long book but it’s full of good facts about Taylor and her career. I’ve always been intrigued by two things about Taylor: her sharp business and marketing sense and her resilience in turning challenges into art—those skillfully written lyrics that make listeners feel connected to her and find their own feelings validated at the same time.
This book was a great quick read that told the stories of her early career, music, and public life. It's a perfect read for new Swifties (or relatives and significant others of Swifties) to get a quick crash course on her career. It comes with pictures of her throughout her career and explanations of the inspiration behind most of her songs. It touches on her dating life but doesn't go into depth on he quest for love. Great book!
Thank you Caroline Young ( @carolinejillyoung ) Gemini Books ( @geminibooksgroup ), and NetGalley ( @netgalley ) for allowing me to read The Essential…Taylor Swift (out now).
A Taylor Swift fan’s dream book! This book was expertly written in great detail from the timeline of Taylor’s life in Pennsylvania to the announcement of The Tortured Poet’s Department. In addition to the excellent storytelling of Taylor’s life, the book includes pictures from those different eras as well.

A fun read with a lot of insight into Taylor Swifts history and storytelling. If you already know some things about Taylor and her easter eggs, I doubt you'll find anything new here. But if not, it's a good starting point.
I love Taylor Swift so I was very excited to read this, full of beautiful images and fantastic info about her career.
I've been a Taylor fan since the beginning, not to mention having 2 daughters during the taylor years - this is a great b[k for a taylor fan (especially with Christmas coming) great photos, great info and facts definitely would recommend!
You best believe I wrote this review with Taylor’s music blasting into my ears and creating the electric thrill it’s famous for inspiring. This book offers a deep dive into Taylor’s career, music, inspirations, and her journey to becoming the superstar and feminist icon she is today. For any Swiftie, it’s truly an essential coffee table addition, paired with stunning, captivating images of the artist.
Even when I set aside my love for her music, I found myself captivated by and admiring her story. I’ve always been intrigued by two things about Taylor: her sharp business and marketing sense and her resilience in turning challenges into art—those skillfully written lyrics that make listeners feel connected to her and find their own feelings validated at the same time.
This book would make a perfect gift and serves as an excellent beginner’s guide to the world of Taylor Swift.
Great book for Swifties and people who just want to learn a bit more about her.
I really liked the addition of the pictures throughout the book. It’s not a particularly long book but it’s full of good facts about Taylor and her career.
It goes through her discography & the awards she’s won. It goes up to the midnights era & the re-records. As well as the Eras tour but it doesn’t include the tortured poets department. All in all an easy interesting read.
“The Essential…Taylor Swift” was a good biography about Taylor Swift. It really delves into who she is and where she came from. The book was packed with information. I enjoyed that there was a lot of focus on her songs and the inspirations for them as well. There were plenty of photos included. It was also helpful that the author included a discography at the end of all of the music Swift has made including notes about the album. This is a great book for any Taylor Swift fan. Even those who have been a fan of hers since the beginning will learn something new about Taylor Swift.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for this complementary ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This is a (very) quick summary of Taylor Swift's career, from the start right up to The Tortured Poets Department. While I did not feel like I learned as new much information as I did from The Essential...Lady Gaga, there was still some interesting info - like Kenny Chesney giving Taylor a cheque to make up for having to remove her as an opening act for his tour.
While this book may be better suited for someone who doesn't have a full knowledge of Taylor's career, the detail and pictures make for a good read for anyone.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. As a die-hard Taylor Swift fan, I loved every second of this book. It's a quick read about her life and career.
I loved this book! The pictures were so great and I loved how it broke it down by each era and album! If you are a swiftie then this is a must read!!
Was disappointed that I couldn’t download this to my kindle; the format wasn’t available and therefore I couldn’t read it.
