I really enjoyed this book. Had me guessing all the way through as to whether or not Kirsty was on the right track. Lots of twists and turns along the way including some real shockers. Fast paced and engaging throughout with some great characters.

Wow. Kirsty is a midwife and expecting a baby herself is so near her maternity leave when one day she sees an old boyfriend at the hospital she works at.
Things then take a turn or two is he him? Is he?
This is just a drag into it thriller that you honestly can guess but then you’re wrong.
So good!

Kirsty is heavily pregnant, hormones racing, working super hard as a hospital midwife on shift. One shift she sees a ghost from the past, a ghost who broke nae shattered her heart and a ghost she never thought she see again. But is she seeing things? Everyone around her thinks she is.

I loved Kirsty. I’ve been in her position, heavily pregnant, stretched with work and knackered from the disrupted sleep that comes part and parcel with a bump. Lynes encapsulated that perfectly especially the “precious cargo” everyone refers to! Kirsty’s concern for both her patients and her friends is so endearing, the way she calms the mum in labour at the beginning is just what midwife should be like. Some might say her concern towards her neighbour is overbearing but if that had been my elderly relative, I’d want someone close by looking out for them.

The way Lynes switched the chapter perspectives between Kirsty and “him” (as the blurb suggests) packed the dialogue with intrigue and got me hooked. I found Kirsty’s voice quite steady but I did start to question whether she was reliable. My hormones have frequently made me question myself particularly when I was pregnant so I did the same with Kirsty.

But then his voice didn’t fill me with confidence. I felt elements of smugness and superiority whether it was deserved or not. The more I heard from this rather puffed up voice, the more I disliked returning to this male narrative!

Lynes has delivered yet another thriller that kept me guessing. The twist was *expletive* shocking as I read but in the post-read comedown, my brain started fitting together the clues to show the breadcrumb trail I’d unassumingly followed. I love this woman’s novels and this is just stunningly brilliant in my book.

The perfect book for a snowy weekend! I’ve read several books by this author, and she always has a good story to tell. The Perfect Boyfriend is set in Scotland and features Kirsty, who is a very pregnant midwife, and an interesting cast of characters. Lots of twists and turns. I will definitely be reading more from Lynes.

I really enjoyed this one. It was my first read from the author and it won’t be my last. I was dragged in at the beginning then it slowed down towards the middles. But the end pick up and finished everything off nicely. I was shocked by the twist. I didn’t see it coming at all! I also enjoyed the dual POV! Great book!

SE Lynes is one of my go to authors and one who I don’t even need to read the blurb before starting any of her books and The Perfect Boyfriend was no exception . This book had me completely hooked from the prologue. Every chapter just kept me wanting more so it was really difficult for me to put down . I loved the alternating chapters between the two main characters . With quite a few twists and turns and some OMG moments this book was one which I wholeheartedly recommend for fans of psychological thrillers.

The Perfect Boyfriend is a psychological thriller packed with tension, mystery, and unexpected twists. This was my first time reading S.E. Lynes, and while it took a bit of patience to get into the story, it turned out to be a pretty gripping introduction to her work.

The beginning of the book isn’t exactly slow, but I struggled to fully connect with it at first. Some of the longer dialogues dragged the pace down and made it a bit hard to stay engaged. But once I hit the 75% mark, the story completely took off! The final act is fast-paced, full of twists, and had me racing through the pages. Lynes does a great job switching between Kirsty and Hughie’s perspectives, which really builds the suspense and gives a clear picture of the past and present. The ending? No loose ends—everything is tied up in a way that’s satisfying and leaves you thinking, What just happened?

Now, without spoiling anything… Dougie?! That twist came out of nowhere and totally shocked me. But honestly, I’m not sure it was even necessary. It felt a little out of place with the rest of the story.

What the author does nail, though, is the tension. Kirsty’s unease is so vivid you can practically feel it yourself, and it really pulls you into her mindset.

The only thing that left me scratching my head was the title. The Perfect Boyfriend doesn’t seem to fit the story at all. Maybe I missed something, but it felt like a strange choice for a book that’s so much more than what the title suggests.

I haven’t read an S.E. Lynes book in a while. I was excited to delve into this one and I’m glad that I did. Though I must admit that I am still confused by the title. The story introduces us to Kristy and Huggie who met when they were young. They 2 quickly became friends then started dating. However, the relationship ended abruptly with Huggie’s hasty exit, leaving Kristy confused and heartbroken. Years later, Kristy bumps into a man who she is convinced is Huggie but the man says he is not. This chance meeting was the begin of a number of incidents that had my heart racing due to all the twists.

Kristy is 8-9 months pregnant when we meet her. I enjoyed her character but was worried by all the sleuthing in her condition. I found her to be quite sympathetic and despite her actions seeming irrational at times, they were also logic in a way because I would have acted the same way in the same circumstances.

This was a brilliant read. The pacing was fast at the start, a little bogged down in the middle, then fast again towards the end. The mystery was good and tied up nicely with all the answers coming to the surface. Overall, an enjoyable read for fans of this genre.

The Perfect Boyfriend by S.E. Lynes is my first introduction to the author so I'd like to thank NetGalley, the author, Bookouture and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to both read and listen to the book. I really enjoy reading a book myself then listening to it. The narrator did an excellent job bringing the characters to life and giving them their own unique voice.

As a huge thriller fan, I found myself engaged and intrigued throughout the story. This plot was one where the secrets of the past are threatened to be exposed which could alter or destroy the characters carefully cultivated life. If you enjoy thrillers of that nature, I would definitely recommend checking this out! It was released two days ago meaning it's available now!

After reading The Perfect Boyfriend, and rating it a four star read, I immediately added more books from S.E. Lynes to my TBR list!

Dang I struggled with this book and I typically really enjoy Lynes’ books. I loved the plot of this book and I was captivated with it as well, but there are so many pieces of this book that I had a problem with.

My biggest struggle is when the female protagonist is portrayed as an idiot. The MC is a doctor/midwife, but throughout the book, she does very dumb things. Then very unrealistic things happen and no one believes her. This is more frustrating than tension building.

This book is way longer than it needs to be. So much of the story is very repetitive, I found myself skimming pages. I honestly think I could have skipped several chapters and I wouldn’t have missed anything.

Throughout the book I kept saying to myself duh since the book was very obvious on what was happening. I will say the one twist at the end was not obvious, but the rest wasn’t really a mystery at all.

Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

Kirsty Shaw works as a midwife as she herself is 36 weeks pregnant. After working through a scary delivery, her boss insists that she step outside and take a 15-minute break. When she comes back in, she is shocked to see a man that she knows is Hughie Reynolds, her old boyfriend from when she was in high school. He moved to her area and had no family so she, her friend, and her family befriended him. Then he just left her a mean note and vanished. When she tries to speak to him at the hospital, he tells her that she is mistaken. However, this man is a Consulting Anesthetist which is what he had always wanted to be.

Kirsty just cannot let it go that she has found Hughie from her past and he is impersonating someone else. Her friends and Dougie, her significant other, keep trying to calm her down and keep her from overdoing herself by continuing to investigate what this man is trying to do. But she is determined to keep on with her investigative nose.

The ending was very tense as we fear more bodies will pile up. It’s a nail-biter, scary story but I could not help but want to tell Kirsty to back off and think of her baby. The descriptions of the bitter cold and the spooky encounters added to the atmosphere of the story which was a plus, but for the most part, I feel as though this story was overdone and, quite frankly, I was glad when the book ended. I have read and reviewed several books by this author and have truly enjoyed nearly all of them.

I absolutely love books by SE Lynes, and always look forward to reading them. The Perfect Boyfriend is another superb read, Susie has done it again by creating great characters, and a wonderful plot that had me gripped to the very end, wondering what would happen, desperately not wanting to finish the book but so keen to find out what would happen.
Kirsty is a midwife. When she is stepping outside to take a break, she sees a man whom she believes is her ex boyfriend. She hasn't seen him for over ten years, but she'd recognise him anywhere. He was her first love and he broke her heart. The man claims not to know her, says he isn't Hughie. No-one believes Kirsty, she is treated like she is going mad. She is heavily pregnant, she is dismissed because of 'hormones'. How can Kirsty get people to believe what she is saying?
I loved the characters in this book, I felt the treatment of Kirsty by those who love and care for her was pretty awful, dismissing her so easily, because of her pregnancy!
Another great book by SE Lynes, highly recommended to those who like her books and those new to her work.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this book expecting a gripping, emotional mystery—a high-school sweetheart reappearing after years with secrets to uncover seemed like such an intriguing setup. And while the premise had potential, I found myself struggling to connect with the story or the characters.

The mystery does have its twists, and there were moments that kept me curious. However, I found myself skimming toward the end, which is always a sign that I’ve lost my investment in the story. The characters felt distant to me, making it hard to care about their motivations or what ultimately happened to them.

This might have been more about my own timing as a reader than the book itself—sometimes a story just doesn’t land the way you hope it will. I can see how other readers might enjoy the blend of suspense and secrets, but for me, it wasn’t quite what I was looking for right now.

If you enjoy psychological thrillers with morally complex characters, it might still be worth checking out. Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t the right fit for me at this time.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

S.E. Lynes’ The Perfect Boyfriend is a gripping psychological thriller that delves deep into obsession, betrayal, and the blurred boundaries of trust. The novel’s power lies in its layered characters and Lynes’ evocative writing style, which creates an atmosphere of unease from start to finish.

The Perfect Boyfriend is a testament to S.E. Lynes’ talent for crafting psychological thrillers that are as much about the human psyche as they are about plot twists. Through nuanced character development and an evocative writing style, Lynes delivers a story that is both compelling and thought-provoking. Fans of slow-burning suspense with rich psychological insight will find much to admire in this novel.

Another great book by Susie Lynes. So many twists and turns that I was literally holding my breath. Even right at the end when you thought there couldn't be any more surprises, there were!

The HER part of the blurb could lead you to think this could be a loves lost romance. Oh no. Oh no Oh no! This is pure thriller. Psychological thrill ride. From start to finish is brilliantly paced. It leaves you with slight doubts at times of our mine narrator. And then you doubt what you yourself have figured out.
Can someone be so evil....
Should high-school romances stay In the past?
