Zero Hour delivers a gripping and fast-paced thriller, reminiscent of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. Eddie Virgo’s, an ex-FBI negotiator turned convict, makes for a compelling—if occasionally over-the-top—central figure whose reckless attitude can either thrill or frustrate. The story starts strong and maintains a steady pace, with twists that enhance the final quarter of the book.

Steve Sheffield crafts a solid narrative, balancing Virgo’s intensity with a well-rounded supporting cast that anchors the story.

As the first in a series, Zero Hour lays a strong foundation. I’m eager to see where Steve Sheffield takes Eddie Virgo next, and how the characters evolve in future installments.

The writing style of this book was not for me. The premise and the plot was interesting enough, but I read so many plot holes or inconsistencies in the story in the first 10% alone, I couldn’t really get invested in the story itself.

This is a well paced book and full of action. There’s fighting and chases but there is also suspense and a good overall plot. Eddie Virgo is an ex FBI hostage negotiator that has a problem controlling his actions and he constantly finds himself in trouble. He is all about tracking and rescuing those in need no matter what it takes. He has a one track mind and takes the law into his own hands, which is exactly why he is tasked the locate a kidnapped senator’s daughter.
This is the first book in what I hope will be a series. I’m interested in what will happen next now that some characters and backgrounds have been established.
Overall, I give this book a 3.5 but rounding up to 4 stars rating. Thank you to Steve Sheffield, Inkubator Books, and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced copy to read and review.

Inkubator Books provided an early galley for review.

This appears to be Sheffield's debut novel, and I found it to be well-written and steadily-paced. He has a solid handle on the gritty, violent thriller genre, making even the more-familiar narrative troupes work in an entertaining manner.

I found myself very connected to the popular culture references that Sheffield sprinkled in throughou7t this novel. The songs and shows that are mentioned resonate with this Gen-X reader. It helped further define the character of Eddie Virgo, beyond his actions and responses to the situations around him.

In the end, this is a series and an author I am willing to check out again in the future.

Eddie Virgo is sitting in a jail cell for thinking morally on a OP. He doesn't regret the decisions he has made, as one less bad guy on the streets saves lives. But when he is offered a pardon in exchange for getting the kidnapped daughter of a senator back, he is skeptical as to why him.
This is a faced paced, action filled FBI thriller that will hook you from the start. Lots of deception, corruption, secrets, and betrayal. Eddie will face it all in the attempt to save an innocent girls life, but can he beat the odds?
Looking forward to the next book in this new series.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Absolutely readable and entertaining book, with a plot that's OK. But the action feels like an old cartoon, and there's other nonsense like the function of barrel twist when shooting from a helicopter.

Eddie Virgo is released from prison so he can find the kidnapped daughter of
a US Senator. His methods are sometimes questionable by law enforcement but he gets the job
done. So he gets released and is sent out on the job which immediately gets him into questionable legal water as he works against the clock to try to find the missing girl , while being attacked and threatened by local gangsters.
Great action with terrific twists and turns.
Characters are interesting and engaging with a plot that moves right along.
Definitely a thrilling read.
