A new series for me , I hadn’t read the first two, but I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. Other People’s Houses wasn’t at all hard to get into and get to know the characters. DC Morgan and DS Leo Brady. I found the book to be riveting and couldn’t guess what the outcome would be. The relationships between the team was interesting and quite funny at times. I look forward to reading the previous books to catch up and can’t wait for the next one.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book is amazing! It lived up to all of my expectations and then some!
Clare MacKintosh is one of my favourite authors and this new book certainly delivered. I was hooked from page 1 and definitely didn’t guess the ending.
Amazing! Thrilling!… I was HOOKED from the first page!!… That whopper of a twist at the end!?! I LOVED it!
I very much enjoy Clare Mackintosh's work, and am a fan of the Ffion Morgan books. I really enjoyed this book, which gripped me from the start. I enjoyed learning more about the peripheral characters in Ffion's life, and was also intrigued by the podcast featured in the plot.
I think the Ffion Morgan books would make a superb TV adaptation and I highly recommend this book to all. It can be enjoyed as a standalone, but why not read the others in the series and treat yourself?!
Amazing! Just amazing. I have been long awaiting the 3rd installment of Ffion Morgan and this really did not disappoint. We follow Ffion and Leo on their respective police investigations alongside their developing relationship. I love how the author gives us a real insight into each characters point of view, developong the characters to a much greater depth so that as readers we really root for them. I was lucky enough to get an advance copy which I am so grateful for. I'm just sad that I have finished it. Clare Mackintosh just gets better and better with fantastic writing and great twists. If you enjoyed The Last Party or Game of Lies then this 3rd installment is an absolute must. Enjoy!
I love this author, all her books have been great reads and Other Peoples Houses sees the 3rd outing of DS Leo Brady and DC Ffion Morgan. Each of them is involved in a case, Leo is investigating a series of burglaries in the exclusive area known as The Hills, meanwhile Ffion has the dead body of an estate agent on her hands. Intertwined in the story is a podcast about a couple killed 10 years ago. The person arrested has recently been pardoned and the case has reopened.
Allie, Leo’s ex and son, live at the bottom of The Hills and Allie spends most of her waking time trying to ingratiate her way into the folks who live in the houses on The Hill.
Soon the two cases collide as Leo and Ffion come to see the cases are all linked, the body, the break ins and the cold case. Ffion is also dealing with finding somewhere new to live and although Leo wants her to live with him she is reluctant.
This series is a very enjoyable read and as with most series it pays to start with book #1 (The Last Party) to get the characters backstories. Highly recommend.

Fans of Clare’s new series featuring Ffion and Leo will enjoy this one. It took me a while to get into it but fairly enjoyable when I did! I find I’m not enjoying this series as much as Clare’s previous stand alone books so I’m hoping she’ll go back to that format again at some point. As always, it’s well written and an interesting concept. I just can’t take to Ffion as a character unfortunately. I’d like Leo to take Dave back to Cheshire and leave Ffion to get on with being difficult in Wales!
4/5 - book 3 of the Ffion Morgan series and I loved it. Like the other books in the series I was kept guessing right until the end.
The story was full of twists and turns and kept me wanting to read another chapter.
I really enjoy the development of Ffion and Leo’s relationship and the dynamic between Ffions new partner George.
Can’t wait to read more in the series!!
I was absolutely not disappointed! Another quality instalment in this series - in fact I think they just keep getting better! I absolutely love Ffion and Leo (and Dave the dog 🙈) and there was so much character development, including adding more depth and background to a couple of other key characters. The storylines weaved together so well and it really did keep you guessing right until the end. And the ending has me absolutely desperate to read the next one already 😆
I was very excited to read this and it did not disappoint. Another brilliantly plotted and written thriller by Clare Mackintosh. Totally gripping from the star to the finish.
My favourite duo is back Leo and Ffion Morgan. I loved all the books in the series but this one was particularly my favourite the multiple POVs were done really well and the Welsh language that is scattered throughout the story.
Allie Leo’s ex-wife in amongst it all was fabulous and really added to the whole police and family drama that was happening; she certainly brought drama element!
There were many twists and turns that I didn’t see coming which added to the suspense element of the story.
The ending did make me cry! Can’t wait to see what next for famous duo! I’d highly recommend this book.
I never get tired of Clare's novel and this new instalment in the Ffion Morgan series is no exception!
Nothing worse than exclusive neighborhoods and realtors! I really enjoy the parallel investigations from Ffion and Leo, with strands of personal lives spicing things up. Let's be real, it's never easy to keep the two separate and without consequences for any side! One professional decision impacts your personal life and vice versa!
I had a hunch about the culprit but it never diminished my enjoyment of the book. The pace is strong, as usual. The characters are flawed and clever and stupid and annoying. Real life but without the weight of it! You just get sucked into the whodunnit and I dare you to manage to tear yourself away from the novel until you've reached the end!
Thank you to NetGalley for my copy of Other People’s Houses by Clare Mackintosh.
It was great to catch up with Ffion and Leo again, and the storylines great.
Leo is on a burglary case in England and Ffion, a murder case in Wales. Are they connected?
A very good read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rating: 3.2/5
This is the third in the DC Ffion Morgan series. As ever with Clare Mackintosh, I enjoyed reading this, but would also have to add that I found it a solid rather than outstanding addition to the series.I loved the first Ffion book, "The Last Party". It was one of my favourite reads of 2022 and I even went as far as saying in my review that I felt it was the best work Clare Mackintosh had produced to date. That being the case, I was always going to read the sequel, which was good, without being up to the same standard as the series opener. My feelings about this third offering are much the same.
In common with the first two books in this series, Clare Mackintosh executes certain aspects extremely well. The plot is well thought through and stylistically it is, once again, quite filmic, with characters who are well-drawn and relatable. The author draws on her previous life as a police officer in addition to her experience of living in North Wales to paint an authentic picture with plenty of integrity. The central protagonist is again DC Ffion Morgan - an endearing character who is flawed, but sharp-witted and amusing. Ffion's evolving relationship with Leo Brady figures more prominently this time around and Leo, himself, has a rôle that is far more front and centre than in his previous two outings.
Books one and two featured quite extensive cast lists, which can sometimes be tricky to follow. That has been pared back in "Other People's Houses" - at least in terms of direct POVs being represented. That said, there are still a significant number of characters playing a part in the narrative. In lieu of the more numerous charcter POVs, Clare Mackintosh employs the increasingly popular technique of including extracts from external media - in this case, predominantly onlline chat forums. These work well enough, though I don't think the author handles them quite as proficiently as some of her contemporaries, such as Cara Hunter or Janice Hallett, for example.
In terms of the mystery element of the story, there are actually three separate strands that are being investigated: a suspicious death, a series of break-ins and an historical cold case. It should come as no real spoiler to anyone to say that these will be ultimately interconnected in some way, because that is just how things work in crime fiction novels. The reader will need to allow the author some dramatic licence in terms of believability at times, but Clare Mackintosh does keep things within acceptable bounds of fictional creativity.
I have commented previously that this series is written in a filmic fashion and that it could almost be a screenplay waiting to be picked up and transferred to the television screen. In contrast to most types of fiction, I often feel that police procedurals work better as televisual dramatisations rather than on the printed page and - as this series progresses - it strikes me increasingly that these characters would be more impactful in that medium. Nonetheless, I always enjoy this author's work and I have little doubt that I will keep coming back for more.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review.
Another winning read by Clare mackintosh. Lovely to see the relationship between Leo And Fiion entwined through the story.
Full of twists and turns and things I never saw coming. This one will keep You turning the pages till the last word and leave you wanting the next book
Really enjoyed the latest story about Ffion, Leo and Dave. We’d all love to live in a posh house and have a privileged life but careful what you wish for. Money can’t buy happiness. Love the way Clare is developing Ffion’s character.
You know when you drive past some beautiful looking houses and think you'd love to live there....think again! What happens behind closed doors isn't always what you think!
Ffion and Leo find themselves investigating a cold case and a new crime on The Hill, but what has been happening behind closed doors?
I found this book an easy read, with likable characters. It came across as a cosy who-dun-it. I don't think you have to read the rest of the series to be able to read this book, but it would maybe answer a couple of questions I have.
Other People's Houses indeed! It was so good to catch up with Ffion, Leo, and Dave the dog. The posh houses on the hill are being targeted by a burglar, but they are not taking anything of value. The case soon takes a turn when one resident ends up I hospital and then another is murdered.
Alongside this investigation, Ffion is looking for the murderer of Natasha, an estate agent who is on a team building weekend with her colleagues. There seems to be no love lost between them.
Leo's ex, Allie, is causing problems between him and Ffion when she accuses Dave of biting their son, Harris.
In the background is a podcast running with each episode detailing a long ago murder of a couple from The Hill. Is it linked?
This series is just getting better and better as we settle into the routines of Leo and Ffion. Ffion has lost none of her charm and is still as impetuative as ever.
Allie is a pain, and there were times I just wanted to shake her.
With THAT ending, I look forward to seeing how Leo and Ffion move forward with their lives.
Thanks to Netgalley and Little Brown Book Group for the ARC in return for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book. It is gripping and is completely full of twists. I found myself unable to put this down until I finished it. I had to find out what was going to happen and how it was going to end. The characters are fantastic. Definitely a huge fan of this series.
Another excellent book in the DC Morgan series. The multiple POVs are done really well including that of Leo's ex-wife Allie who is someone we'll all love to hate. Ffion and Leo each have an absorbing crime to investigate and the pace increases as clues, links and red herrings emerge. Throughout the story the personal relationships add even more interest and yet another dimension. All in all a thoroughly good read!
