Wow - what a page turner! This was the second Claire Mackintosh book I have read and she does not disappoint. I didn't realise until I finished reading that this is the third book starring Ffion but as I realised, you do not need to have read the others to read this one - although I will be definitely going back to those at some point!
So Ffion and Leo are a couple both working for the police force, but across the English/Welsh border. It begins with the murder of an estate agent on a work weekend away in Wales with colleagues, but turns into a whole lot more than that!
With Ffion investigating the murder in Wales, Leo is working on 'The Hill', trying to solve a number of break ins. These break ins soon turn into something worse, when a teenager is badly injured. While at first appearing to be very different cases, there are lots of potential links between the two and Leo and Ffion have to start working together to unravel the mysteries. Just to throw a spanner in the works, Leo's ex wife lives at the bottom of the hill but has high aspirations of buying a property there and joining this glamorous community. The writing is so good when it comes to this part of the story, I was literally squirming with embarrassment at what goes on!
This was a fab thriller in every way - interesting and well written characters, unpredictably twists and fast-paced. I read a lot of thrillers and pride myself on sometimes predicting at least some of the plot twists - but this one just kept me guessing!

Clare Mac never fails! And this is no exception. Another brilliant read, likeable characters, a convincing plot.

I thought I had read a book from this series before but I was mistaken. It didn’t cause me any issues though, I had no problem getting to know enough about Fionn, her partner Leo and Dave the dog to enjoy this book a lot. And I’m happy that I now have the previous books in the series to catch up on.
With both of them being police officers it’s difficult for them to switch off at home, Fionn is investigating the death of an estate agent who drowned in a kayak on a booze filled weekend with work colleagues. Leo is investigating a series of burglaries that have become more violent in a gated community. A community that had been investigated previously for murder with that investigation featuring on a podcast. Both struggle, Ffion isn’t the biggest fan of estate agents after issues with buying a house and Leo’s ex wife and social climber Allie is also causing issues.
The reader gets to see the view of the story from three different characters. Ffion and Leo, understandably but also Allie. I really liked seeing how three handled the situation. Allie was a character who I loved to hate, the way she was with Ffion but more so for her obsession with those she considered her friends. At times I felt sorry for her, especially when she became increasingly aware that she was unwanted and I’m looking forward to seeing more of her cope, or otherwise, with Leo and Ffion’s relationship.
Both investigations gripped me, it felt strange but clever the way they connected but it worked well. The characters, even the victims, were grotesque and I felt like I was reading with gritted teeth, which added to my enjoyment. I appreciated the frustration that Leo felt, especially with Ffion’s obsession with the cold case and the possible connection to his current one.
I don’t often read a series out of order, I’m happy that I can read the earlier books while waiting for the next because I loved Ffion and Leo. They were like a breath of fresh air.

I loved this! My first Ffion Morgan story and definitely won't be the last - whilst you can read this as a standalone book as I did, I'll be going bank to the others to see what else I've missed in her life. The little spots of Cymraeg scattered throughout are great, even if you have very little knowledge of the Welsh language (like me) it really adds to the authentic feel of the place. There is so much commentary in this about social class and where people see themselves within it, the haves who don't need to try to hard, and the social climbers who always get it slightly wrong. A great entertaining read!

Yet another great read by Clare Mackintosh - the third one in this series. A fast-paced crime-thriller bringing back Ffion, Leo and Dave the dog. I loved it .
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC in return for an honest review

Other People’s Houses is a gripping police procedural that had me hooked from the very first page! Clare Mackintosh has crafted a brilliantly engaging story that keeps readers thoroughly entertained from start to finish. The narrative is filled with moments of humour, heartfelt drama, and unexpected twists that keep you guessing at every turn, with each chapter unveiling new clues and keeping you guessing until the very end.
The characters are well-developed, especially the investigators who are both relatable and compelling. Their personal struggles and professional determination add depth to the story, making you care not only about solving the case but about the people involved. The pacing is spot-on, and the suspense builds naturally, making this a true page-turner.
If you’re a fan of police procedurals that balance sharp investigative work with strong character development, Other People’s Houses is an absolute must-read. I couldn’t put it down and highly recommend it!

My thanks to Little, Brown Books Group and NetGalley for a copy of “ Other People’s Houses” for an honest review.
I’ve loved Claire Macintosh’s previous books and this latest publication definitely didn’t disappoint.
I particularly like the Dc Ffion Morgan series of books and the beautiful setting of Wales.I think this was the best in the of the three , so far. I sometimes struggle with too many characters , but these were so well written that I had no problem keeping up at all .The book was humorous and suspenseful and it kept me guessing right to the end.
Clare’s books are so readable , and relatable and stand out in a crowded market .
I can’t wait to see what happens next !

Ffion Morgan is back again to solve the case of a body found in a kayak on the lake. Alongside Leo is investigating a series of break ins in an elite neighborhood. While they both try to figure out where they stand with each other in their relationship.
I love this series Ffion and Leo are brilliant characters and I love their relationship growth from the first book. The twists in this book I had no idea what to expect next and everything came together so well. Would definitely recommend this series. (Also I would advise to read them in order to get the relationship development between the characters)
Thank you to Netgalley, Little Brown Book Group and Claire Macintosh for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I want to thank Netgalley for approving me for an ARC of this book.
I've enjoyed this series since the start and couldn't wait to dive into the final book. Clare Mackintosh delivers on twists, turns, red herrings and suspicious characters. Making this a great conclusion to the series.
I particularly liked that Ffion and Leo had different cases to work on, even though we knew they'd link up eventually I enjoyed seeing the cases unravel. It was also good to see their relationship being thrown into the story more.
I can't wait to see what Clare writes next, until then I have a nice list of her previous books to work my way through.
🌟🌟🌟🌟✨

Another great read by Clare - the third one in this series. I loved it . Highly recommended
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC in return for an honest review

Such promise - I loved the character development and the story showed real potential.
But the ex wife was such a heavy clumsy character that it jarred the story and was out of place, for me.
The wrap up of the ending felt a bit rushed too.
Ok but not as good as it could be.

This is the third book in this detective series and continues the story of Ffion and Leo, in their slightly complicated romance. Adding his ex wife as a fairly dislikable main character in the mystery was a nice touch as it wove the stories together. Having their respective police cases woven together further made it a really intriguing read, although for me it got a bit too complicated at one point to remember who was who and why they were important.
The author has said there are only three books planned for these characters but I hope she changes her mind.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in return for a review.

Other People’s Houses
Clare Mackintosh
I love Clare’s writing style and jumped to read her latest release. This delivered and was unputdownable.

⭐️⭐️ 2 slow stars. This was a bit of a plodder, quite slow to get going.
It was hard to care about Natasha or what happened to her as we knew so little about her. The relationship between Leo and Ffion seems awkward and the only character that made me want to read more was Allie.
The twist was underwhelming and having read two Ffion books now, I won’t be reading any more.
Not for me sorry.

Really good mystery. Had to pay attention to the details. Was great to hang out with Ffion and Leo again. Really great job tieing the three mysteries together. Love the big reveal at the end. Does this mean we will get more of Ffion and Leo? Interesting insight into Leo's ex Allie and her obsession.

I read this book as a standalone and I didn’t not feel like I had missed out even though there are two other books in the series.
I loved the author, Clare’s, style of writing. It has humour and was informative when explaining the police elements. It also had me gripped from the start.
I can not recommend this book enough, I will be searching for more by this author.

Other People's Houses is the third instalment in the DC Ffion Morgan series and probably my favourite of the series so far.
Working in an estate agent's the setting of the exclusive street and fancy houses was absolutely perfect for me.
As usual Mackintosh provides a gripping storyline that keeps you guessing all the way through. There are lots of characters to keep track of and all of them add to the plot and make you question who the killer is. I didn't see the outcome coming at all.
I loved the new dynamics between Ffion and Leo and how their relationship develops.
It's a thoroughly entertaining read that isn't just your normal crime novel. The humour as well as the twists and turns are second to none.
Definitely a series to start if you haven't already!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 from me.

Envy, jealousy, infidelity, greed, thieving, murder and estate agents.
This story involves a lot of crime, including a cold-case double murder, that initially seem to be separate cases. The plot includes a lot of characters, which took me a while to get my head around them all, but the three main ones have their own perspectives in discrete chapters, but are linked. First is a woman detective based in north Wales investigating the death of a woman in a kayak, who is dating a detective sergeant who is working on a series of robberies in Cheshire, and third, his social climbing ex-wife who has aspirations to become like the rich folk in the fancy Cheshire houses. There is also a true crime podcast with a social media group to fill in the gaps about past murder.
As the cases unfold, strange facts emerge linking them together. Some seem to be tenuous at first but the story delves deeper. Meanwhile, the detectives have their relationship to sort out, with obstacles to navigate such as living arrangements, his son, her boisterous dog (called Dave - love it!) and the ex-wife. She brings a lot of light relief as she is desperate to be like the rich folk in every way such as how they dress, what they do even the nick-nacks around their home.
The book is well-written and the pace is stable. Not really a thriller, more of a police procedural and a domestic drama and whodunnit, but the characters are distinct and well drawn, with some warm and likeable. Good to see a nice man featuring prominently. Difficult to guess the ending as the story has many layers, so kudos for that. Overall a good read. Part of a series about the woman detective, D.C. Ffion Morgan. Looking forward to reading more about her.

Another fab thriller from Clare Mackintosh! I loved the storyline, suspense and twists, but I did struggle a bit with the amount of characters involved. This is the only reason it dropped 1 star for me

Clare Mackintosh had done it again! Another fantastic book with lots of intrigue and twists that will keep you glued to the book to the very end.
We are treated to two mysteries - Ffion is investigating the death of an estate agent in Wales and Leo is tasked with solving a string of burglaries in an affluent suburb in Cheshire. As the pair delve deeper they realise that the cases maybe linked and they need to work together to solve them.
The lovable duo going steady but still trying to take their relationship to the next level, with Leo wanting Ffion to meet his son, Harris, which thanks to some meddling from his wife does not go very well. I love that their relationship is evolving in a real-world way and not in the rushed way you often see in other books. I really look forward to seeing what comes next for them both/all.
The pacing of the plot is faultless, weaving flawlessly from one mystery to the next and neatly inserting new plot points with each delicious twist. It is a shame that the book is a bit Cwm Coed-lite, but Clare makes up for this by fleshing out The Hill neighbourhood in exceptional detail. The residents are fleshed out and I enjoyed the way they are portrayed - it’s almost satire of the stereotypical type of people that live in these neighbourhoods. A veneer of kindness and neighbourliness that hides an ugly bitchiness and disdain for outsiders. Hopefully more Cwm Coed in the next book!
Overall, a fantastic addition to the DC Morgan series that ticks all the boxes and then some!
