Wow! What a book! Tim's story is inspiring. A short story of a child's ambition to create a community garden in a food desert. I loved this, and so did my 6 year old.

This is a bright and colourful and inspiring book that radiates positivity from start to finish. The incredibly vibrant illustrations draw you in immediately, making each page burst with life and excitement. My little one really was enthusiastic about little Tim's mission and the images helped. The author has a great way with words, using language that’s both accessible for my little one and quite motivational, encouraging young ones to see challenges as opportunities to grow—just like the plants Tim is so passionate about. The story isn’t just about gardening; it’s about nurturing patience, persistence, and responsibility. The book also manages to weave in themes of community and teamwork, showing how individual actions can sprout into something much bigger with the help of friends and family. It’s one of those books that’s fun to read out loud, thanks to its rhythmic, playful word choices, and it leaves both my little one and even jaded me with a warm, inspired feeling

I like the general idea of this book quite a bit! Little Tim sets a great example for young readers that want to make a change in their communities. He takes necessary and crucial steps towards making a difference, which readers can reflect in their own lives. However, despite the great idea, there were a few things that I didn't really like about this book:
1. The illustrations. Why are all of the characters staring into the reader's soul? It would have made so much more sense for the drawings of the characters to be looking at each other. Additionally, this wasn't consistent. Some characters looked at the reader and some didn't. I would appreciate it if all of the characters interacted (looked at) each other.
2. The vocabulary. I don't think this book is meant for older readers, but the vocabulary seemed a bit advanced for younger readers. Kids won't know the meaning of college degrees or what City Council is like. I would still include the City Council aspects, but make them very simple so that young readers can still understand the full story. I think that taking out any college degree talk would be beneficial.

Overall, though, I think that this is a great book to teach kids how to work towards change!

This review is my own, honest opinion.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!

I like the idea behind this book in teaching kids how fresh produce can benefit their future and also to spread awareness that some neighborhoods do not have access to fresh produce. I also like that the author illustrates how a kid can get involved with presenting a plan to the government for help in building a community garden. I feel that the lessons in this book are good.

I do feel that some of the language or ideas are a bit out of the maturity level for children, such as “action plans”, “grassroots level”, and the significance of Ms. Tonya’s education. If this book was written for teenagers, I think that how it is presented is more geared towards children.

The illustrations are colorful and drawn well. The overall story is good!
