Shoshauna Shy knows cats. This book is a helpful resource for new and experienced cat sitters. I appreciate the helpful insights, including interview tips and ways to handle unexpected challenges. Even though I'm a veteran cat owner, I learned a few things reading this book and recommend it to cat sitters of all experience levels. Cat owners can learn something from this book, too, as they hire reliable folks to care for their kitties.
Not particularly helpful; rather niche. This might be useful for someone who is interested in becoming a cat sitter and doesn’t know anything about basic business practices or how to use Google. It’s not particularly useful for the vast majority of people, and didn’t have any secrets or even anything to do with actual cat care or information on cat behavior. I was hoping this might have something helpful for me as a cat owner, but it’s really meant for a very small audience. Some of the “secrets” are really just opinions and shouldn’t be offered as universal advice.
This is a brief book by a cat sitter with several hints in case you wish to be a sitter. Several beautiful photos. The most interesting chapter told what to do if certain events happened, the author drew upon her experiences.
Many thanks to Netgalley for this read.
As someone who has been working with pets in the veterinary field for over 10 years, I recently started offering pet-sitting services for some of my client's dogs and cats. Expanding my business into this area has been a learning experience, and Cat Sitter Secrets by Shoshauna Shy seemed like the perfect resource to help me navigate this transition.
I found the book incredibly helpful, particularly because pet-sitting comes with unique challenges—especially when it involves caring for cats, who can be very particular about their likes and dislikes. Despite my background, this book provided several new insights and practical tips that I hadn’t considered before. It’s clear that the author has many years of experience in this field, and her advice feels both thoughtful and realistic.
One of the highlights for me was learning about the documents she offers on her website, which are designed for use with clients. I plan to start using these as templates and customize them to fit my business needs. I recommend you to look for these resources to improve your service.
Overall, I highly recommend Cat Sitter Secrets to anyone considering pet-sitting or already in the field. Whether you’re a beginner or, like me, have found yourself pet-sitting without much formal experience but lots of love for animals, this guide is an excellent starting point. It’s well-designed, easy to read, and packed with practical advice that will leave you feeling more prepared and confident in caring for pets.
I definitely thought this would be more of Shy's insights into cats and their behaviour, given her career, but instead it's actually a guide book on running a cat-sitting business. I still found it interesting and I appreciated how she didn't over explain or try to extend her page count. All her advice is clearly stated and her reasoning behind it, alongside fun stories and anecdotes. The layout was clean, with clear photos and a logical flow. Maybe some clarity on the cover for what the book is about, would help this find its right audience.
This is a concise HOW TO Be A Cat Sitter book..
It covers every detail you could possibly think of when taking on a job as a professional cat sitter. Like what, you may ask? Cat behavior, owner behavior, the need for an agreement before you begin, a list of cat needs , an idea to determine a fee to charge for your services, how to ( and when to ) get paid.
What to do if you are bit or scratched. And more. It is a terrific book for someone considering this type of work. I was not. I thought it would be loaded with tips for living with cats.
Still, I read the whole thing. It is that good. Highly recommend.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me this ARC.
