What can I say that I’ve not said before about this brilliant series.
Number 24 and it’s as good and fresh a read as number 1 was, with the added joy of feeling like you’re meeting up with old friends, friends whose lives I’ve become totally invested in.
Another brilliantly original plot as the team investigate the cold case of two college students who disappeared 12 years ago one Halloween. A cold case that’s suddenly become warm as nature has released their bodies.
This instalment has a different feel to it than the others too. Firstly it feels smaller and more intimate as, apart from a few brief interactions with Kalo, all the characters are in the immediate Black Rock Falls team this time, and there is a bit of a ‘locked in’ feel too, a favourite of mine, as we are presented with a finite number of possible villains from the off.
As always the main plots hurtles along with breakneck speed keeping you guessing, while the subplots bubble along nicely with the development of a new character we met in Their Frozen Bones, new life, and hints at new relationships too.
Life is about to change for Jenna & Dave and I’m hoping that when we next meet them baby Kane will have arrived.
I really could simply copy and paste the same part of my previous reviews here, because I always have to repeat myself in saying how fantastic this series is, how great the story telling by this author is and how wonderful the recurring characters are. :) I will try my best though to find other words to describe my admiration for this excellent series. ;)
As per usual, the author takes me on a roller coaster of a journey in Black Rock Falls. The story is, once again, filled with suspense and action , but also always softened a bit by some lovely passages to give the reader time to take a breath.
Killers still don't seem to understand they don't stand the slightest change in escaping Jenna, Dave and the teams clutches. On the contrary the team expands and grows even stronger.
On the other hand I do hope the killers will keep coming to the village, because otherwise it would mean the end of the series and I am not ready for this by far.
Another perfect story in this amazing series. 6 stars
Thank you
This is one of the most consistently exciting series in the crime fiction genre, the author never disappoints. There is always plenty of action and thrills, from the start to the end and the characterisation is always developing. Jenna and her team are more like friends, than just characters in a book and it's always good to catch up with their lives. This is another excellent read by DK Hood and I hope there is more to come in this series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Two mummified bodies are found in the river during a storm.
Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane find out that the bodies are those of a couple that were believed to have run away.
Friends of the couple all tell the same story - exactly the same and Jenna is suspicious.
Little does she know that a serial killer is on the loose.
Another exciting and heart pounding book in the series. I binged this book, knowing that Jenna and her team would solve the case, but needing to know exactly how they would do it.
DK Hood definitely knows how to keep the reader transfixed.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
Yet another brilliant read from DK Hood. These stories and characters are still as fresh on book #24 as they were in book #1! I really enjoyed the story which spans over the period of 12 years. When two bodies are washed up it’s up to Jenna and her team to thwart the murderer. I love the progression of the characters and their relationships, opening a Kane and Alton book it like visiting old friends. Highly recommend this book, it was tense and exciting and I was kind of sad when it finished. Bring on the next instalment!
This book is so good, I read it one sitting!! DK Hood has spun another thrill ride with twists and turns that will literally keep your attention until the very end. The entire cast of characters are so well written and fleshed out I feel as if I know them personally. This story begins 12 years prior and soon has the entire team trying to solve the mystery of who killed Cole and Abby that cold night 12 years ago. We get some interesting insights into the killer’s mind without them revealing themselves until the fast-paced conclusion. The suspect list starts with many but one by one the suspects list dwindles until you don’t know who to suspect. This 5 star thrill ride will keep you on the edge of your seat!!
