Two strangers randomly meet on a plane, only to get tangled up in a story of death, lies and deceit.
Told from multiple points of view, this is a face paced thriller with two female leads, and suspense from the first page.
I felt all the characters were well developed, particularly the men (Robert and Trent were very believable).
Some great twists and a thoroughly jaw dropping moment, this thriller keeps you on your toes.
Cracking debut! Looking forward to reading more.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Headline for my advanced copy.
THE BUSINESS TRIP BY JESSIE GARCIA.
Release date set for the 16th of January 2025.
As soon as i started reading this book i knew i was going to love it and i also knew i would be rating this one high.
I thought it was a very interesting plot/story line. which i loved.
There are many shocking twists.
I was surprised to find out that this book is her debut novel.
It's written fabulously.
Congratulations and well done Jessie Garcia
Debut fiction title from this author
Very very VERY difficult to say much about the story for fear of giving anything away so I am going to leave it at ‘this was/is one of my favourite books this year and it had me every which way ( but loose? )’ anyway loose or not it is mind zonking
And that says what I feel so no need to write more
Except it is brilliant 😆😍😎
This is a book of two halves. I loved the first half. It was fast-paced with lots of POVs and evidence and I was totally sucked into the story trying to figure out what was happening. Then about halfway through you discover what's going on it (bar one unexpected and pleasing end twist) and from there it changed. The plot starts to get a bit far fetched and lacks the tension of the first half as much of the story is retold and explained from the perpetrator's POV. So a worthwhile read but could've been great had it kept up the promise of the first half throughout.....
Stephanie and Jasmine are both on the same plane journey. One is on a business trip and the other is escaping an abusive relationship. After a few days their friends get the same text from them about the same man. Then they vanish. What has happened to them both?
I heard a lot of hype about this book, therefore was keen to try it out myself. After finishing, I can see why a lot of people were talking about it. This was a fun, solid debut with clever and intriguing plot. The first half of the book sets the scene and the second half things start to ramp up and go crazy. The characters are written well, however there are some unlikeable ones.
This was certainly a twisty thriller and I have to admit the author managed to floor me at one point. Occasionally there were some far fetched moments, however this helped to keep the story entertaining. I would recommend those looking for an unpredictable thriller with a unique plot to pick this straight up! I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
A physcological thriller that really kept me trying to guess what was going on. It starts out rather simple and then all of a sudden I had no idea what was happening. It's brilliantly plotted!! I love that I had to keep reading to unravel the mystery twist. I didn't particularly care for any of the characters but the uniqueness of the story is what kept me turning the pages. It's different but good different!
Fantastic book. I loved the storyline line, & the characters . Kept me up all night as I couldn't put it down⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book started with a brilliant and truly original premise.
I had high hopes for it, but after a good start the writing felt unexpectedly pedestrian, and the plot spiralled in a way that began to seem increasingly far-fetched.
Many other reviewers gave this story good reviews, so perhaps it is just not for me. I give it 2.5 stars. To each their own!

Quite enjoyed this one! I’d definitely say this was more of a popcorn thriller, as parts of the story were a little far-fetched. Nevertheless, it was still a fast paced, entertaining read.
The story is told from a multi-character POV, switching between them in each chapter. At the start I did feel like there were a lot of characters, so I did find it a little confusing and hard to follow at times. Alongside this, there were an awful lot of typing errors in my ARC copy which was slightly annoying. I know this can happen though with PDF format e-books, and it wasn’t unreadable.
Trent was such a horrible character! I definitely felt a lot of hate towards him, with the way he acted towards women. Once the book got past the halfway mark, it became a lot more gripping and hard to put down. I could really visualise some parts as a film which I loved!
I did not see the big twist coming towards the end! There had already been a twist revealed, which left me with a few unanswered questions as I wasn’t sure of the reasoning behind it. However, everything then fell into place and made sense, with a satisfying ending too!
Overall, I thought this was a great popcorn thriller for a debut author! I’ll certainly keep an eye out for more books from this author in the future.
Totally not what I expected but this storyline was great, and what a surprising end.
The only problem I had was the foul language. 4,5 stars
Thanks NetGalley, the author and publisher for the chance to read this. This review is my honest opinion.
Two women who look alike meet on a plane. One is a dirt poor barmaid running from a relationship with a violent man, and the other a news director who is well off.
Their lives have intertwined from one chance meeting.
The plot of this story was good, if you ignore the far fetched parts of it.
However, it was long winded, over explanatory, and there was a massive cast of characters, not many of them that I liked.
I felt sorry for Jasmine at first, but she really was a conniving person.
Stephanie was more true to life, lonely, well connected, friendly and accepting.
I think that the book could have been shorter and had less text messages and narrators.
3/5 stars from me
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC.
This book was gripping and I found myself holding my breath in the initial pages to see if everything would turn out alright!
This book was highly addictive with many twists and turns to keep you turning the pages well into the night!
Thanks to Netgalley and Jessie Garcia for this ARC.
It was a good book and a twisty story, however, I did struggle with the different POV's, yet again. Something I did not know before, and surely not the fault of the book, but it made reading harder for me. I had to jump back and forth several times to make sure I would not miss anything important.
Would I still recommend the book? Sure! I was really invested in the story still, and all the characters were great. It is a very solid debut novel, and I will keep an eye on the author for any future books she might write.
What an an amazing read. Had me hooked from the beginning, so many twists and turns, and a storyline that unfolded from every characters perspective. It is so well constructed and written, and the story was believable. Loved the characters, and they were all integral to the plot. An brilliant debut novel and I look forward to the next one!
I did enjoy this book; however, it would have been so much better if it had not been so unbelievable. It started off so well, and I was really enjoying the story, but then things just went silly very quickly. I mean, find my doppelganger.com???
Jasmine was such an unlikeable character; I found everything she did to be selfish and 'poor me'. Stephanie was a much more relatable and likeable character, saying that the ending was great and tied everything up nicely. I would definitely read more by this author.
Thanks
The twists kept twisting!!
I had no idea who the killer could possibly be up until the point the author made it obvious and even then, I was shocked.
I loved the multiple POV going back in time, it added extra information and depth to the story. It was great to see what everyone’s opinions were on what had happened to their friends.
Glenn?! Disgusting human! Also severely unhinged and scary.
The only slight negative (?) I would say is that I didn’t see much point in Diana being introduced. I understand it added an additional twist to the story but just felt it was a tad random. That being said, absolutely loved the rest!
I want to start by saying the cover of this book was what caught my attention. I have since seen the cover of the USA version and I never would have given this book a second look with that cover.
That being said, I LOVED this book!! It starts out with jasmine leaving her abusive boyfriend and encountering Stephanie on the plane as she heads to a business trip. While at this business trip, she meets Trent who is very full of himself.
How are all these people connected?? This book is broke into separate parts which basically explains each of the main characters part of the story. So many twists. So many shocking moments. I could not get enough of this book.
