This is a great read! I loved the beautiful illustrations and it is very engaging and informative, I learned a lot
this was a sweet read! i loved the beautiful illustrations, there was something lacking for me in the cadence of the writing and it was a bit long but i love how beautiful it was and how it was teaching while entertaining
This was really stunning, I read this to my daughter and she really loved the illustrations and now asks about sea horses all the time!
This is a magical book.
Who doesn’t love a seahorse? Still now a favourite of mine into my old age. So a pure delight to share with my own grandchildren.
This is a complete book that introduces the different aspects and activities of the seahorse. They are illustrated in their habitat where camouflage skills are introduced when confronted by their predators.
The text is simple and repetitive which kids will enjoy and love its growing familiarity. The fact that the seahorses are ‘hidden’ makes the children more aware and they pay great attention trying to spot these enchanting creatures in the pages. They can also name the predators out hunting which are introduced in quite poetic language.
At the end of the book there is addition descriptions of the various aspects in the life cycle of the seahorse and details how to learn more and protection these endangered fish.
A real joy and a continued pleasure to read with my loved ones.
This book was such a delight! The illustrations added so much to the experience, and we had a blast spotting all the hidden details tucked within the pages.
My little absolutely loves animals and reading a book that tells you all about an underwater animal, well that was icing on the cake! The graphics are gorgeous and the facts were fun and easy to learn
I love seahorses, so I knew I had to grab this book to read to my kids. The prose was repetitive and sweet, and my kids were saying the next lines as they approached. They loved searching and finding the seahorses throughout the illustrations, and they thought it was cute. The words are definitely not all for young children, however, there is a handy section at the end of the book that has words and short paragraphs to describe how they work in seahorse lives. Overall, I would recommend this book for an elementary classroom library!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Beautifully illustrated children's book about seahorses which are so fascinating to me. This is a poetry type prose rather than information/fact based book too to know. But at end it has a bunch of facts about seahorses which I really enjoyed as well! Even though I'm not the target audience I enjoyed looking at the gorgeous drawings which were really well done!
In lyrical prose and stunning illustrations, this picture book invites young readers to explore the fascinating world of seahorses. Amid colorful ocean life, readers follow seahorses as they hide, change colors, and navigate their underwater habitats. Featuring various species, The Sea Hides a Seahorse offers a seek-and-find adventure, with additional information at the back on seahorse conservation.
I absolutely loved the illustrations, they were so beautiful and I loved the facts at the end of the book about Seahorses many of which I had no idea.
I didn’t appreciate the mention of mating, bulging or references like that. Also how each page started with …”word” it was a little awkward however you get used to it after a while.
This is such a wonderful little story! The bright colours in the illustrations really make the story shine and pop! I would recommend it to anyone who has children interested in reading a cute picture book!
What a cute book! I loved the bright, colorful illustrations and the subtle seek-and-find with the seahorses throughout. There are some neat facts at the end as well. I think this will really appeal to children, especially those who are interested in sea creatures and the ocean.
What a beautiful book! The illustrations are gorgeous, and the book provides so much information about seahorses, their habitats and behaviors.
I like that the story is easy to read without being overwhelming, and then the glossary at the end explains some terms in more detail.
I would be excited to use this one in my classroom!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book for review.
This title was a fantastic book to introduce kids to seahorses! I myself learned so much! The graphics were inviting, playful, and colorful. I think the intended audience will enjoy learning more as the story goes on!
What a beautiful book. Such visually pleasing illustrations and the writing is so poetic and melodic to read. It’s educational too, with children able to learn the names of sea creatures and also about the hierarchy system of the ocean. My toddler would love this book!
Simple, clean and very effective illustrations. This book is both stunning and educational! I learnt so much about seahorses without realising I was learning. Clear educational scope at the end of the title allows for more learning for those eager readers.
With a lovely repeating refrain the book had a clear narrative and a fan favourite sea creature!

The Sea Hides a Seahorse shares facts about seahorses through brief prose and beautiful art. I actually learned more about seahorses than I was expecting to through the main story and there are additional facts and resources at the end of the book. The page count lends itself to a young reader's attention span, but be aware that it mentions mating very briefly and vaguely (to also show how baby seahorses are born) and you might want to be prepared for that convo if you have a kiddo who likes to ask questions.
Thanks to Collective Book Studio and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
This is such a fun book! My nephews will love this! It is a cute hide and seek type book that teaches kids real facts about sea horses! I myself used to be obsessed with sea horses.
What. The heck? I have to be brutally honest: I did not really like this book. It was super repetitive, boring, and took a weird turn about 3/4 of the way through.
So, as I said, this book was so, so repetitive. There was not much page diversity, and each page was the same exact layout/formula (in terms of writing), just with some different pictures and words. Other than those little changes, every single page was identical. This made the entire book a total bore, which will not appeal to young readers at all. They have short attention spans and a book as basic as this will likely be a painful read.
However, there was one thing I did like about this book: the illustrations. They were very well-done, and definitely captured the beauty of the sea. Additionally, I like the hidden seahorses on every other page. This allows a Spot-It game to be seamlessly incorporated into the book, which is great. Unfortunately, that was the only thing I liked about this book.
Lastly, a bit towards the end of the book, everything really went downhill. First of all, why include mating in a kids' book? This might lead to parents being asked unwanted questions, or might just straight-up confuse young readers. Additionally...*bulging*? Really? You couldn't think of a better word? And, even further, you had to have a whole page dedicated to the seahorse being pregnant? This works really well in certain kids' books, but including it in a book that's supposed to only be about seahorses doesn't make sense.
What a fun aquatic adventure this read was! My child with autism LOVES aquariums and looking at all things under the sea. Diving into this with him this evening was so fun. We loved looking at the BEAUTIFUL illustrations, and seeing how the sea can help camouflage sea horses in the various environments. The colors were rich, bold and eye captivating, and paired perfectly with the storyline. I love when children's authors are able to create captivating and educational stories that help young readers find passion and adventure on newer topics.
Thank you Sara T. Behrman for creating such a fun adventure for my little reader. And NetGalley for hosting this story for us to explore!
I enjoyed this book and the illustrations. I especially liked the seahorse facts at the end of the story.
