The story was good, but in the beginning there was so much medical jargon that really didn't need to be included. Along with the explicit sex scenes, I really expected more storyline than anything.

Samantha moved to a new city in Washington to escape her past. She's a nurse in the ER. She had a traumatic childhood that has shaped her into the person she is today. On her first shift, she meets Dr. Atticus Thorin, the ER doctor who thinks so highly of himself. But Sam isn't bothered by him, and when he tries to insult her, she gives him a taste of his own medicine; something no one's done before.

He's 16 years older than her, but something about her intrigues him. When her car dies one night, he drives her home. As he's getting ready to leave, he sees Sam getting assaulted outside her apartment and he quickly jumps in to help her. The man who assaulted her turns out to be her abusive father. After that encounter, Sam clams up and locks herself into her apartment. She acts like nothing happened and refuses to talk to Atticus about it as well.

Her father was always into illegal things. But when he double crosses the Russian mob, he trades Sam's life for his freedom, at least he thought so. When she's attacked and almost kidnapped in the parking lot a month later after work, Atticus can't hold himself or his feelings back any longer.

But he needs to find out who's after her and why first.

Workplace romance, age gap, grumpy/sunshine and lot's of banter and spice!

This was a fun and sexy read, with just enough action to keep the tension high and the logning higher...

Defently in the look-out for this series!

As the first book in a series , it was good, however I was hoping for more mafia than a medical story. Atticus Throin is a mystery to Samantha and also her doctor when she ended up working alongside him in the ER. I liked the way she drew him out of his serious side. While it seemed a while until we got to the exciting part to me, it was definitely worth the wait and the read. After reading this one, I have decided to read the next in the series as it also promises to be a good one.

Paging Dr Hottie! Dr Atticus Thorin, the senior ER doctor is about to meet his match in this medical romantic thriller!

Samantha is looking for a fresh start as she moved to a new city and started her nursing job on the night shift. She meets grumpy (and smoking hot) Dr Thorin during a shift and get ready for some banter and equally hot brothers!

This also has a mafia aspect, which I don’t read a lot of but dabble. These were a great mix that kept the read interesting and on the edge of the seat in anticipation!

I enjoyed Atticus and Sam’s banter and their journey opening up to one another. I also liked the info to the brothers and can’t wait to dive into their stories!

Thank you to author, Evie James, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. I received an epub and am leaving my review voluntarily.

This was my first really “medical romance” and I liked it. It also was sort of romantic suspense mixed with mafia (not a straight up mafia book) so that made it an interesting read too.
Atticus is the grumpy older doctor in the emergency department and Samantha is the new, young nurse. She doesn’t put up with his grumpiness and dishes out replies to all his snark. But they are two broken people in need of each other to heal and find love.
You also meet his two brothers in this book and according to the end notes they have books as well.

Loved the book! I absolutely love the entire MAFIA romance/head over heels. The spicy sense of Danger and obsessive don’t touch what’s mine attitude made me fall in love.

The Night Shift by Evie James and Craig Richards is a chilling mystery that takes place in a haunted hospital. The story follows a group of night shift nurses who start experiencing strange and terrifying occurrences. The authors have a knack for building suspense and creating a truly spooky atmosphere. The hospital setting is both eerie and realistic, and the characters are well-developed and believable. I found myself constantly second-guessing everyone and everything, which made for a truly thrilling reading experience. If you're a fan of horror and mystery, I highly recommend The Night Shift. It's a perfect read for a spooky night in.

*Workplace Romance
*Age Gap (16 years)
*ER Doctor/Nurse
*Grumpy/Sunshine
*Cinnamon Roll MMC
*Touch Her & 💀
*Forced Proximity
*Sassy FMC

This book was different for me. I love mafia but the medical aspect was new. I loved both the MMC/FMC and the rawness of this book. Evie definitely hit the harder topics and really did it well.

This book was so much fun to get into, think Grey's Anatomy with a touch of Ana Huang mafia romance. It hit the spot so perfectly while I was reading. A very turn your brain off and enjoy kind of read! The pacing was really well done and I loved the character growth throughout the book.

The spice was immaculate and the romance was delicious! This was a great and fun read!

Good book, I enjoyed the spice in it. I love the medical aspect of Night Shift, it added that extra layer to the story.

This was a spicy, romantic story with action and a bit of thrill mixed in. Atticus is a hardened ER doctor who doesn't do relationships. Samantha is a newly hired ER nurse with a touch of sass and a desire for a real home and friends and family. When they two meet the chemistry is off the charts. Life throws a lot of obstacles in their path to happiness in the form of Russian Mafias. When Sam's life is in danger, Atticus realizes what she means to him, but will he be too late? Overall, a great book. I loved Atticus' brothers, and the staff at the hospital. I thought Sam was a bit immature at times, but thought she handled herself well at the end. Great read for those looking for action with a side of steam.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 /5

I really enjoyed most of this book.
It had a mix of romance and mystery with a side of OMG HIS BROTHERS ARE hot 😅 it really lost me when Sam started acting like she just turned 15. Someone (even if he was a arse sometimes) literally saves her and invites her in and the things she does is absolutely outlandish and actually made me hate her. I have no sympathy for her because she really had absolutely no excuse for what she did and it almost ruined the book for me. Atticus absolutely saved the book for me. He and his brothers really are good hearted even if sometimes wayward a bit. Overall, they were selfless and the ending was great. I wanted to give this a higher rating but Sam just annoyed me that much throughout the book. I really m hoping the next one had a better FMC 🤞

Loved reading the amazing and awesome romance story. Atticus, the ER doctor, is known for only one night stands, but Samantha, an ER nurse, is someone Atticus would like to spend more time with. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting love story.

I enjoyed the courage of Evie James and Craig Richards. I like how they included plot points that deviate from the norm in this genre. This made the book more interesting to read as it was less predictable. I also liked the attention to dialogue of the characters. For instance as Atticus became more comfortable it was observable in his dialect. This made the book wonderful to read while having all the steamy, emotional, heart pounding moments you would want from a medical ~ mafia romance.

Oh my goodness, the sassy side of our FMC is ridiculously amazing. I'm new to Evie James and Craig Richards' books, so I was going in blind for my first book for them and I'll tell you that I have zero regrets.

I'm a lover of character chemistry and to see a doctor who seems to be very rightfully stuck up and unable to communicate properly to the nurses surrounding him barraged by the sweet and sassy side of a brand new nurse to his hospital makes me *completely* content. I hate to say it like this, but it sounds, for all intents and purposes, as if he went through something deep before she got there and of course, that makes for a poor first impression when all he wants to do is shut people around him out and simply deal with the patients. (Not a bad thing for a doctor to focus, clearly, as they are saving lives. But it's also leaving his completely passing him by in the meantime, being so closed off.)

This is not your average "boy meets girl, they fall for each other and live happily ever after" type of romance. You will find darkness. You will find trauma (and I'm not just talking about emergency room scenarios). You will find laughter and tears, and each emotion in between if I'm being honest.

Grumpy man meets his match in the sweet, sassy younger woman, filling two tropes in one for me while the whole mafia ordeal fills a third, driving home my full love of this one and the prayer that there will be more of this story to come!

Night Shift is an enticing medical romance that intertwines suspense with a dash of mafia intrigue. At its core is Atticus Thorin, a brooding senior ER doctor nearing 40 and grappling with burnout. His reputation for being an icy authoritarian doesn't deter the spirited young nurse, Samantha Sheridan, who brings a fiery wit to the department. Their initial clash leads to a magnetic connection, igniting both tension and desire. As Atticus attempts to maintain the unbreakable walls around his scarred heart, Samantha's sassy demeanor challenges his emotional detachment.

The stakes rise when Samantha's safety is jeopardized by the man who should have protected her, pulling Atticus into a deep-seated need to rescue her from the looming danger. This unexpected twist reveals layers of both characters, who are haunted by their pasts—Samantha by her father's sins and Atticus by his emotional scars. This age-gap romance captures the journey of healing and trust. Atticus and Samantha's relationship is fraught with challenges as they learn to lower their defenses and embrace vulnerability. The chemistry between them is palpable, enhanced by steamy encounters that will leave readers breathless. The medical backdrop is more than just a setting; it's a vital component of the narrative. It's an enjoyable escape into a world where love blossoms amidst chaos, making it a perfect pick for fans of spicy, age-gap romances. Highly recommended for those curious about the unexpected blend of medical and mafia themes!

the book starts out with Sam an ER nurse who is running from her past trauma moving to a new town. she meets Atticus and grumpy doctor.
this is an age gap romance. I thought it was well written. I thought the mafia part would be a bigger part then it was. it is a short book it could have been longer but for what it was I liked it.

Night Shift is a medical romance with suspense and some mafia action. I typically like medical romance books, but unfortunately, this didn't do it for me. The characters were neither believable nor likeable. The mafia part and how it was dealt with wasn't believable either. I read this quickly but only so that I could get over it.
