Warren G. Harding was the 29th US president and held office from 1921 until his sudden death in 1923. He was quite popular in his day and won a landslide victory in 1920 by promising a "return to normalcy" after the traumas wrought by the Spanish Flu pandemic and the First World War. He was genuinely mourned on his demise (he was succeeded by Calvin Coolidge) but after his funeral, revelations began to emerge about his presidency and people's doubts began to grow. What had been Harding's role in the events which led up to the Teapot Dome corruption scandal? Had Harding, in fact, been a compulsive womaniser who, in fact, had at least one child as a result of his extra-marital affairs? Over time, Harding's reputation began to fall and today Harding is rivalled only by Donald Trump himself for the title of worst ever US president.
This novel centres on one man's quest to uncover the truth about this controversial, historical figure.
Personally, I didn't really get into it, but there you go.
