This was a pretty enjoyable read. I didn't have the opportunity to read the first in the series, so the reference to the fae's bodies, their social structure, and rules may have been easier to understand if I had, but that being said it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the novel.
Focusing on the main characters and their love for each other really moved the story along. I am not the biggest fan of "fate made me do it", but still enjoyed their fall. The spice was mighty spicy.
The secondary characters were present, but not overly developed and I really didn't enjoy the relationship between Reneah and her mother.
Overall, my interest is peaked and I think I'll check out the first novel to learn more about this world.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and author for the opportunity.

This story drew me in from the beginning with the chemistry between the two main characters igniting from the very first moment. This book is a novella following The Veiled Heir. I did not read The Veiled Heir prior to this one, but I think it would have helped understand some of the characters/world better if I had. That being said, it can be read as a standalone.

A quick blurb:
-Leader Reneah Diaz, the respected head of the palace chambermaids, comes from a legacy revered by the royal staff. But when the grieving Fae King Cathan returns to Atlantis with his daughter, the Heir, Reneah forms an unexpected bond with both him and his daughter.

-Cathan harbors a rare, hidden shame, a secret that could shatter the carefully crafted image of his life with Neleah. But as undeniable chemistry grows between him and the human chambermaid, he feels something he never dared dream of—a connection worth risking everything for.

-In a world where palace politics forbid relationships between the royal family and staff, and unions between humans and Fae are taboo, Cathan’s request for Reneah to stay in the royal wing doesn’t go unnoticed. As their feelings grow, they must decide: separate to protect their legacies, or risk everything for a love that could destroy them both.

This was a great addition to the Heir of Atlantis series. It had that world that I enjoyed from the first book. Was great to see Cathan and Reneah's POV's. Overall I really enjoyed the plot and I can’t wait for more.

Thanks to S.T. Fernandez and their team for the chance to read this arc.

This was a great novella in the Heir of Atlantis series, it was a great in-between chapter in this. It had that world that I enjoyed from the first book. The characters had that overall feel that I wanted and worked in this setting. I thought the plot was great and worked overall. S.T. Fernandez has a great writing style and can’t wait for more.

I received this book as an ARC on NetGalley, and I read the first book in preparation for this reading.
I loved the veiled heir up until the last 20% and then very much disliked the ending so much that so I almost pulled out of reading this ARC. I couldn’t imagine continuing the series at all.

However, mama didn’t raise no quitter so I decided to read this book anyway.
Now I can honestly say, I prefer this book to the first book.

The romance felt much more believable, and there wasn’t any, creepy man bonded with a child, awkward orgy situation or SA as there was in the first book.
The friendships felt much more real.

I truly wish the author could figure out a way of combining the two books or at least highly suggesting a simultaneous read of both of the books, because the ending of the veiled heir is really really difficult to get through.

This book has all of the love and hope for a future that the first one lacks.

I am not going to lie this book has a lot of potential but it is REALLY boring. I love the idea of the lost city and mortals but this just wasn't it.
