Thanks to the Publishers and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I really enjoyed this book.
The story portrayed how the working class people faced difficulties and dealt with them with pride and determination, they will do whatever it takes in order to look after their loved ones.
Peggy’s husband suffers an accident at work and the dreams they had for their future are put at risk. She will now do her best to keep the family together.
There’s secrets revealed that affect them all and will change their lives.
I highly recommend this book.
Peggy and Dar are about to buy their house when Dar has a nasty accident at work. As Peggy finds it difficult to accept charity, she has to dip into their savings to pay for his hospital bill and all the other expenses they have.
Set in 1926, this story shows the struggles people had before we had the NHS. The female characters are strong, determined women who tackle their daily struggles head on. How they would rally round when they saw one of their neighbours struggling. This is an easy read that feels true to the era its written in.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #SheilaRiley for my ARC of #FamilyTiesOnBeamerStreet in exchange for an honest review.
A really enjoyable read. A story about the struggles and challenges facing working class people and how they deal with things with determination, courage and pride that shows they will do anything to be able to look after their families. When Peggy's husband has an accident all their hopes and dreams are crushed and what she faces only makes her more determined to try and keep her family together, there are secrets that come to light that impacts all of them and hopefully make a better future for them as they all pull together.
This Beamer Street book was brilliant. The story was exciting, interesting, and engaging. It really made me think about how we're all just a step away from disaster if you lose your job and how it pays to be resourceful.
There was a strong sense of community too!
I can't wait to read the next in the series. It's like visiting old friends when you hear about what's been going on with recurring characters!
3rd book in the series, love this series and have read them all, lovely to catch up with the great characters on Beamer street.
Brilliant author, great book
Another great book by this author in which she continues the series of the people of Beamer Street.
Peggy & Dar live in Beamer Street and are about to make their dreams come true in buying their house, but unfortunately Dar has an accident at work and the plans have to be put on hold. Peggy finds it hard to accept charity so she has to delve into the savings that her and Dar made over the years to pay for his hospital bills and other bills. Will she find a way to make money to pay for all of this.
I enjoyed the book and was interested to find out what happened in the book.
Well written.
Looked forward to reading this book as I have read the previous books and enjoyed them.
Although the story started well it seemed to lose pace, focus and plot! I found the book to be very bland and not up to the level of the previous books.
I can’t say that I enjoyed it much but look to the author’s next book in the Beamer Street series.
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing me to download and read this book.
Amazing to catch up with the people of beamer street once again, love following their lives and what they get up to, amazing storyline and wonderful characters as always
10/10
Family ties on Beamer Street is the 3rd book in the series, great to catch up with the characters and read about new ones. This book centres around Peggy and her family and the struggles she has after her husband Dar has an accident at the docks. She endures heartache and then finds out a secret that’s been kept hidden for years. A great book and hoping for a 4th book.
Had I known this was the 3rd book in a series, many things would've been more clear from the outset. However, the story has enough expository dialog and other details to make it a feasible standalone. This is a rather unique twist on the men-go-to-war and the women-find-work-outside-the-home theme by using a strike and injury as the events that propel Peggy into the workforce. I felt like her relationship with her sister was a true portrayal of two siblings but I was not fond of her mother! If nothing else, reading this as an ARC gives me reason to seek out the first books in this series and other works by Sheila Riley.
this is set in 1926 and is about a family on Beamer street, good family story. I enjoyed it very much.
A very light and easy novel about a family, their problems, luck and conditions of living in 1926. Readers who love uncomplicated stories with a predictable outcome. I felt depth is missing as far as the characters and social conditions are concerned.
I received a digital copy of this novel from NetGalley and I have voluntarily written an honest review.
This book follows the story of Peggy Tennant as she struggles to make ends meet after Dar has a life changing accident at work. The author has a written a compelling page turner full of so much heart that it's bursting at the seams. With strong minded female characters that I was cheering for all the way. It's many twists and turns had me turning the pages faster than I could read so much that I had to go back and read the book a second time. A family drama plotted historical saga that I couldn't get enough of to satisfy my curiosity! I can't wait for the next one by this author!
Continuing the stories of the families of Beamer Street. Full of the ups and downs of family life and community spirit.A heartwarming read.
Set in Liverpool in 1926, this is a family drama. After years of saving for a house of their own, Peggy and Dar are finally going to the bank to buy their dream. Unfortunately, Dar, who works on the docks, has a terrible accident that causes them to use the money for the house to pay the hospital bills. Peggy steps in to work while her husband recovers, cleaning and polishing ships, including a night job when necessary....saving what she could to continue their dream of owning their own home. A lovely story that celebrates how a family pulls together to get thru the hard times. My thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a new author for me. The story was great. She brought the chapters to life in a unique way. I look forward to more of her books.
A sweet family drama to relax with when you need it! However, just one point - even in 1926, you couldn’t become an engineer with just an apprenticeship, you needed a degree and certification in the UK.
Another lovely read from Shelia. I love this series as it's so easy to read and I do enjoy the characters. Always guaranteed a relaxing read. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Loving my visits to Beamer Street catching up with friends old and new.
Peggy and Dar Tennant are living the life they have a house and Dar is a good worker. Peggy has everything she needs until a tragic accident at the docks takes it all away. Peggy is a strong independent woman and finds it hard relying on anyone for help when she’s at her lowest but the camaraderie in Beamer Street soon takes over.
Looking forward to more instalments and getting to know more of the residents in the street.
Another wonderful instalment of Beamer Street!
Dar and Peggy Tenant’s great plans that have been in the pipeline for years are suddenly thrown into disarray when Dar has a terrible accident at work on the docks. This forces Peggy to rethink her plans and lifestyle, being a rather proud woman doesn’t make it easy for her kindly caring neighbours. When Peggy does reach out it’s to the most unlikely person, sister Violet who has always mocked Peggy for wanting to move up in the world. Meanwhile daughter Millie is worried about her mother so goes to neighbour Ellie Newman who then tries to help in a roundabout way.
Dar is receiving treatment at Lavender Green which is some distance away and treatment costly which drains the Tenant finances. When help comes from a secret benefactor , which is a surprise when revealed, along with other reveals along the way.
One of the beauties of this series is that while some characters are in several books, they can be standalone too.
I love the warm community spirit on the street, well maybe not Ina who continues to niggle. I do enjoy a story involving a strong woman.
My favourite character was Peggy, least favourite is definitely Miles.
I do hope there is another in the series.
