The second book in the Guardians of the Weldafire Stone series bring us meeting Mick the son and nephew of the main characters in the first book. Mick is on his own adventure finding his way as his parents won't tell him why they've kept him away from his birth country. Mick is 19 and working as the head chef of a very unsavory and questionable governor who gives him a choice, not choice, and forces his hand in going to his birth country. Now he is on is own adventure and figuring out his new magic along the way. This is a fun book to read even if you haven't read the first book.

I wish I would have had the chance to read the first book in this series first, but I didn't realize that I needed to. I think it would have made this so much better. As a stand alone, the author did a great job with the characters and story line. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Thank you Net Galley and Trinity Cunningham
