The Knowing is quite a unique book. It follows Camille, and her disadventures, in one single working day, alongside her unbearable boss Holly.
The writing style, with short chapters, that sometimes feel random but are always connected, truly mimics the ramblings and workings of someone’s mind, jumping from one thought to another while going about their day. In this, it felt extremely relatable, even though Camille and I could not be more different. That I was able to relate and feel connected to someone so unlike myself, is a true testament to the author’s talent.
It is a stream of consciousness book with no plot that still somehow manages to have a satisfying plot. A book about the mundane and boring that is anything but boring. It is funny, bleak, uplifting and dreary all bunched up into a bouquet of beautiful thorny flowers. In much the same way that life itself is.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it! Bonus points for the fact that it made me google all the flower names, brightening up my day with beautiful flower photos!
I own A Room Called Earth, also by Madeleine Ryan, which I had not read yet, but I’m now bumping that up to the top of the TBR pile!
Thank you to NetGalley and Scribe UK for the advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I don't know about this book.. I liked it.
It's all about a day in the life kind of read.. the boring mundane things that make life bearable/unbearable.
the writing was good and I really enjoyed getting to know camille. I was at times shouting 'that's so me' to yes! that's real life,
Other times I was in awe of the author that she actually wrote a novel about everyday life.
