Wow, this audiobook really played with my head. Jam-packed with twists and turns, it features unforgettably vivid characters and a series of mind-blowing revelations. Two new mothers, each with her baby strapped into a car seats, crash into each other while driving along the notorious Misery Hill. Both Finn and Kathryn survive, but only Finn’s baby survives. The badly injured Finn and her baby end up being cared for by her aunt, Maura, in her isolated cottage on Misery Hill.
This is an utterly gripping tale that is very hard to put down. I enjoyed most of the narration, although I found the narrator’s portrayal of Finn a tad sickly sweet. I also found the book a tad long, and feel that some of the scenes could have shortened or even cut without detracting from the story. For this reason, I’ve given the audiobook 4 out of 5 stars. Apart from those two little peeves, I found this a really fantastic listen.
A fatal car crash with only one witness—but is she telling the truth?
What a twisty, disturbing thriller this is... WOW!
This story is told from 3 points of view and with each point of view comes more shocking twists and turns, this one had me unable to stop listening.
When Finn takes her baby to visit her aunt Maura in Ireland after her mother dies, she has a car accident on a windy cliff top road and hits another mother and baby. Only one baby survives the accident, but which one?
This is a dark psychological thriller which touches on a lot of triggers, so be warned, but if that is your thing, then you'll love this book as it's non-stop and just when you think you've got a handle on what's going on, bam another surprise, right until the end of the book. It keeps you hooked and the tension just keeps building.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC.
This book was great. 😊 the suspense kept me guessing and the storyline was interesting. I loved the dual POV of the main women and seeing their crazy story unfold. Def pick this one up if you’re looking for your next suspenseful read!
The Survivors is a twisty psychological thriller based on the mystery surrounding multiple car accidents on the elusive Misery Hill. Fin is a loving mother who looks to re-kindle bonds with her Aunt, a mysterious and estranged woman.
I liked how the secrets and lies were slowly revealed to paint the bigger picture. I found myself always wanting a bit more information than was provided.
I would recommend this book to readers who love domestic-psychological thrillers.
3.5 ⭐️

Engaging and entertaining. A recommended purchase for collections where crime and thrillers are popular.
Wow this was a quick, page turner! I was hooked from the start. Think the film Misery and this is what you’ll get with The Survivors. Brilliantly narrated, with lots of twists and turns. Being married to an Irish man, I loved the atmospheric setting in Ireland, the lingo too.
Despite Maura’s actions throughout the book, I really did feel for her I have to say. I did find the very end a bit of a let down so that’s why I’ve rated it a 4 star.
Will definitely read Caroline again for sure! New fan right here!
WELL GUH DARN!!! now this is a psychological thriller! This has to be one of the best book i have read this MONTH! my goodness!! What the heck!! Thru the whole book I was feeling so bad for Maura! Just to find out! She is Bat $hit crazy!!! Man!!!!
This book had it all! Drama! Thrills! Grief! Murder! EVERYTHING! the twist and turns was insane!!!! Once they started they just didn't stop!!
And we not going to forget Kathryn and her family l! They should have been ashamed!!!!
Wow! This is good writing! When I began the book I thought it might be too wordy. NO! You need every word of this. All the twists and turns stunned me. One of my new faves!
This spectacular book kept my brain jumping all over! Just when I thought I put all the pieces together I was given new information and it changed again.
The narrator has a thick Irish accent that took my brain a moment to adapt to, but once I had it was flawless. she did a great job with the material.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Brilliance Publishing for my advance copy of this audiobook.
I very much enjoyed this tale of two women colliding on top of Misery Hill in a car crash fatal for one of their babies. We, as the reader, aren't really sure whether the baby Maura takes in, belongs to her niece Finn. Maura is one hell of a character, reminding me of Kathy Bates in Misery although not quite as unhinged. She's a desperately lonely woman who has pushed away her family.
It's quite a dark tale of Finn's fight for survival for her and her baby, in various moments where she's not in control. We are rooting for her to escape Maura's clutches, that is until the other mother comes along.
A great read as expected from Caroline Mitchell
I really enjoyed this story. It captured my attention from the start. The narrator's accent took me a little while to get used to but in the end I could give this a 4 star rating.
Many thanks for my gifted copy.
WOW. As a thriller lover, this book had a GRIP on me.
Another terrible car accident happens right in front of Maura’s house. But this time one of the drivers was her long lost niece. Two vehicles, two moms, two babies, but only the moms and one baby walk away. Both moms leave the accident unconscious, without truly knowing what happened.
This book was a slow burn but at no point did I feel like I could stop. Set in a small town, this book is filled with family, death, and many secrets.
This book had such depth. Going deep into back stories, leaving no unanswered questions. Each character had such a unique story and I couldn’t help but feel like I knew them. I loved them, I hated them, I wanted to cry for them, all at the same time. The author truly made you feel for the characters, even if you were feeling sorry for the wrong one.
There were points where I had guessed what would happen but I have to say that the ending was not anything I could have remotely imagined. Starting with a tiny spark this book grew into a huge all consuming fire that I truly couldn’t look away from. This is a book that’ll keep you up late at night with the flashlight under your covers just to get to the end. After you finish you’ll be left wondering, how did I not see that?!
A truly fabulous book with dangerous (pun intended) twists!
Hauntingly atmospheric. This is one of those book that transports you to its setting, and I’ve never felt more homesick for a place I’ve never been than when I read this book. It was brilliant. A wild rollercoaster that gives you whiplash. And the narrators were brilliant.
This was a kidnapping/birth origin mystery/thriller with mainly female characters.
Maura- a middle aged lady who is somewhat odd and keeps to herself. She lives alone on a big cliff that has had multiple fatal accidents. She is always the first on the scene.
Finn- Maura’s niece, who is bringing her baby girl and coming to visit. But she gets in an accident (this is obviously a very dangerous hill)
Catherine- the other driver in the accident- another single mom with another 2 month old infant girl.
That’s kind of coincidental, right?
And so the blurb tells you that both mothers and one baby survives. And you can probably see the first twist coming, no?
Anyway, the twists and turns in this felt laborious to me. The ending and many of the “secrets” seemed vaguely misogynistic. I do like a mystery with twists and turns but these big reveals at the end kind of felt like whiplash.
I did like the narrator, the audiobook was well acted and kept my interest, but the story was not my favorite. Perhaps I will try a different one by this author.
