Loved the illustrations, kudos to Pauline Gregory. 5 stars for illustrations.
Loved the rhyming text by Amanda Sobotka, that seems to make the book more enjoyable when reading to little ones.
What I didn't like about the book is that around halfway, the dragon interacts with squirrels and burrowing rodents. My interest waned in these pages both times when I was reading Dragons Can't Eat Snow Cones. I enjoyed other parts, pirates and penguins. (3 stars for rodents.)
Many thanks to NetGalley and Cider Mill Press - Applesauce Press for the opportunity to read the advance read copy of Dragons Can't Eat Snow Cones in exchange for an honest review. 40 pages. Publication date is Jan 28, 2025.
A fun picture book! DRAGONS LOVE TACOS is a big hit at my library, and so I have a feeling that dragons eating snow cones would be just as popular. I particularly enjoyed the illustration style, and also appreciated the rhyme scheme; I'm always on the lookout for new storytime titles, and I could very easily see myself reading this one out loud.
The listing of different animals that the dragon asks for help goes on for a little bit too long and might lose some young attention spans along the way, but I do love how each suggestion gets a little more goofy every time. Overall, a colorful and delightful read.
This was such a fun children’s book. My daughter liked that the main character was a dragon and thought it was so funny when his plans would go awry. It teaches a good lesson to never give up and to get creative to succeed. We loved seeing all the animals giving the dragon advice and trying to help him get his snowcone.

This book was written by Amanda Sobotka and Illustrated by Pauline Gregory.
The story was good even though the rhymes were a bit off at times.
I loved all the illustrations in this book, I loved the colours used. I found the pictures to be engaging and they fit the story perfectly.
This book teaches kids the importance of problem solving through trial and error and the importance of not giving up after the first failed attempt you’ve got to keep trying until you succeed.
Thank you NetGalley, publishers, the author and the illustrator for the advanced readers copy of this book, I highly enjoyed and I think this makes a good kids book.
My son loved this book when I read it to him. It was enjoyable to read and we loved how silly it was!
I love these books and this is going in the collection once it is published on Jan 28, 2025. The Dragon so badly wants to eat a snow cone, but it keeps melting. The story takes him through his adventures on trying to eat it before it melts. The illustrations are so eye catching and my children thought the book was very funny.

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this ARC! I read this to my 3-year-old, and we had lots of fun. As soon as we finished it, he said, "Let's read it again!" So it passed with flying colors in his book. ;)
As for me, as some others have mentioned, I felt that it was a little on the long side. There were also a few places that the rhyming didn't flow as naturally, making the rhythm a little awkward. However, the art was super fun and the story engaging for kiddos. Its one I'll definitely return to with my own kids! :)
Pretty good. I liked the artwork! The story worked. I was really happy that the dragon got his snow cone in the end. Loved all the colors and the interactions with the other animals.
I felt this was a cute book - illustrations were bright and colorful and the rhyming was fun - but I felt that it maybe went on a little too long.
I really enjoyed the vibrant, colorful, fun illustrations in this book. And the rhyming story is sure to be enjoyable for parents to read, and it’s silly enough to make kids giggle and reach for it over and over again. A good one to add to your children’s library.
What a sweet story!
Adorable, humorous, and fun rhyming to keep the little ones engaged.
The dragon is persistent and tries lots of things to figure out how to accomplish his goal!
Looking forward to the smores the dragon makes in the next one.
Adorable tale. Just enough mischief and goofiness. My daughter (3) thought it was very silly. Giggling throughout, engaged in the dragons failures and invested in his success. The book is colorful, bright, and gives 90’s vibe in terms of the color palate. Would absolutely read again!
My 5 and 7 year old's really enjoyed reading this book for story time! It is a very good book that keeps kids interests sparked.
The illustrations and idea for the story are very cute! I did few that the story went on a bit too long as my kids and I were losing interest. This is a good one to read on a hot summer day followed by a snow cone 🍧! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
Join the dragon in this problem solving adventure following a dragon who would like to enjoy a snow cone like all the other creatures. Highlighting themes of problem solving ad the dragon tries to figure out how they can eat a snow cone through asking others and trying different things. As the dragon tries to figure out how to eat the snow cone they are met with disappointment and frustration but still they persevere.
Dragons Can't Eat Snow Cones by Amanda Sobotka is an absolute delight! My kids couldn’t stop laughing and were completely enchanted by this dragon’s hilarious quest to enjoy his favorite treat without turning it into a puddle.
The rhymes are playful and engaging, making it a joy to read aloud, and the vibrant illustrations brought the story to life in such a fun way. Beyond the laughs, the book also delivers a wonderful message about creativity and perseverance, which I appreciated just as much as the kids did.
This charming tale has quickly become a bedtime favorite in our house, and I imagine we’ll be reading it over and over again. Highly recommend for kids who love dragons, snow cones, or just a good laugh!
This was a really funny book about a dragon trying his best to eat a snow cone without melting it. It's hilarious and the illustrations add to the laughs, with cute Easter eggs and funny expressions and other animals mixed in.
It felt a tad bit too long to the point interest was lost, but still a fun adventure with the little ones.
I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
I fun story about a poor dragon who wants to know what a snow cone tastes like. They ask all kinds of animals and get some interesting advice. WIll they ever taste a snow cone? Only with a little help.
My son and I really enjoyed reading this book together! It was super cute and definitely a book I would purchase for myself or friends! :)
Cute story and super cute illustrations. The rhyming is very catchy. My dragon loving kiddos think it’s funny!
