I love John Larison's work, so was very excited to read this, even though dystopian isn't my favourite genre. I wasn't disappointed. This is a multi-layered story, following several different characters as they try and navigate a new world after catastrophic climate change. I felt most invested in the three siblings' stories, as they tried to find their lost family, and I found it hard to put the book down as the tension ramped up. Humans are pitted against an often hostile environment, and also against their own power structures. I love survival stories, and this was epic in it proportions. Great stuff!

The Ancients is a thought provoking drama set hundreds of years in the future. Beautifully written, it is a timely reminder of how quickly climate change can change a world and civilisation. Frightening and prescient. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
